Who Are Your Boys?

54 posts in this topic

By "Boys" I mean Ravens that weren't well known or even very good for that matter but you liked them anyways, guys that nobody other than their family members owns one of their jerseys. So Jacoby Jones for example can't be your boy because he was a Playoff/Super Bowl hero and many Ravens fans love him.

My Boys:

Anthony Allen - Sure he was never a good RB but damn could this guy block on Special Teams, I would always look for him on kickoffs to stick somebody. His crowning moment was of course getting a crucial block that sprung Jacoby's Super Bowl Return TD. Always liked him and thought he worked really hard even though he was only marginally talented.

LaQuan Williams - The UMD grad, how could he not be one of your boys? He had a promising rookie season as an UDFA and actually made a crucial 1st down catch on the game winning drive against the Steelers in 2011 that Torrey Smith would ultimately haul in the GW touchdown on. Has been cut and re-signed here a handful of times but I always pulled for him to make it in the league.

Good topic.

Jameel McClain - don't know if he is a good example because he was a solid starter for a few years but his back story and personality are incredible. He also did a ton of charitable work and was one of the true good guys of the NFL.

Marlon Brown - won me over with his underdog story and rookie season but has been down since. Still, part of every fan probably sees 2013 Marlon in there.

Anthony Levine - another underdog who is a ST pro willing to do anything to help / stay on the team.

Williams and Allen are good, too. Corey Redding was also underrated and a good guy, good locker-room presence for sure.

Good thread

Here are my boys;

-Femmie and Brendan Ayanbadejo..Both extremely high effort guys.

- Buddy Lee(aka Kelly Gregg) He wasn't the biggest Dlineman out there but he did a lot of the dirty work that made those defenses great.

- Chris Chester..an unsung hero of that 08 team.

I will second Kelly Gregg.  Met him at the mall.  Classy dude for sure.

James Ihedigbo and Ricky Williams, gotta love Ricky, man.

Ihedigbo, man I wanted us to re-sign him we could have really used him the past two years. I knew Elam was going to bust after his first season.

And Nakamura, that guy was a stud in camp and not so much on gameday, I never liked Zibby.

James Trapp. One of the best special teams players the Ravens ever had. He was unbelievably good as a gunner on the punting team, always hitting the guy the second he caught the ball. He really helped the team win the field position game. He was also a fairly good nickleback and blitzer as well. He gets overshadowed by the amazing players the Ravens had back in the early 2000s, but he definitely played his role well.

I liked John Simon out of Ohio St.  I knew he was going to take year or two to develop but I felt that he could grow into a good backup role or maybe someday starter.

Antwan Barnes- boy he could rush the QB

Demetrius Williams- I felt he had a lot of untapped potential. He never got a fair shake after playing for an injured Clayton.

Jim Leonhard- I loved him!! Awesome returner for us and made a lot of plays on defense.

Kelly Washington- dude came up big every time he was asked on 3rd downs in short yardage situations. Squirrel dance!!

Marcus Smith- WR, didn't make it on the field too much but he was a monster on ST

Billy Cundiff before everyone wanted him dead, which in turn people told me I need to die as well.

Curtis Painter - Someone made a signature for me if he made the team as backup quarterback, He led that great preseason comeback.

Bryn Renner - I like backup QB's who get us clutch preseason wins

Danny Gorrer - liked the #36 version than the #37 version

Sam Koch - before he was cool

Always loved Buddy L and JJ.  Both under appreciated work horses that were sorely missed after they were gone.

Yeah, he went to NY with him. He hit right in with our style of play in defense

absolutely broke my heart during the playoffs one of the announcers saying "John Simon - outplaying Clowney for a starting role."

I really liked Corey Graham. I was sad to see that we didn't give him the contract that he rightfully deserved. He played and gave his best every play. He might not be the 'best' corner, but his effort was clearly evident and his genial personality was expressed/well known within the locker room.

Edgar and Allen.

I miss those two birds.

Lol I was at the game where they were hatched.

Benny Thompson was a force on SpTeams in the inaugural years.

5 sacks in 8 games but let's never mention his name here again. It hurts too much

Id say Samari Rolle, but he might be too big of a name...

Dominique Foxworth. Such a class act, I always wanted him to do well, but he just couldnt stay healthy.

Aiken. Journeyman who finally landed in Baltimore and got his shot. Always seems to come through in the clutch with limited oppurtunities. I'm thinkin he has an even better 2016.
