[News] Ravens In Talks With Running Back Trent Richardson

49 posts in this topic

Well of all the news coming out of the Ravens, this one is the most disappointing and shocking. Why not bring back Ray Rice instead Steve and Ozzie? He deserves a second chance and is so far superior to Trent Richardson, it isn't even funny.

Don't mind giving him a shot, he'll be one an absolutely tiny "prove it" deal, there is nothing all the line. If he can show what he had in college then we make it out like bandits, if he continues to flop then we can cut him and lose nothing. Fine move that gives us more competition which is always good.

Bringing in Richardson!!?!??!!??!? HORRIBLE, AWFUL, and DISAPPOINTING. If you looking for a bargain why not look at someone like Matt Forte, Doug Martin, or even Chris Ivy. I also agree with giving Ray Rice another chance.

I don't get Ozzie and in free agency stuff they do sometimes. Why they want to get Richardson? Ok they would try to go after Richardson but not Matt Forte who is better at this point and know Marc Trestman scheme. If they want pay for Richardson then they can pay a little more to get Forte then. Smh

Hopefully this is not a hint into what kind of player we will be "very active" with if we do not reach a deal with Flacco. This guy hasn't even shown that he WANTS to play in the NFL. It's just a check to this guy.

I like it, especially for the minimum $ he'll get. Competition is good. Everyone was down on Forsett when we first signed him because he had done nothing and look how great that turned out. Plus, how much exactly did Forsett do his first 3+ years in the League? This guy was a #3 pick. His potential is sky-high (though I admit I'm not optimistic about him achieving that).

Re Ray Rice, I think he should have been given a second chance before Greg Hardy, but unfortunately, the Ravens are the lone team that cannot do it due to how much we went thru before and will again if we were to re-sign him.

Can we please drop the Rice talk, if he ever gets a second chance it's not going to be here, the front office wouldn't want the pr nightmare that that would create. Not to mention his last year was god awful. Richardson doesn't present any behavior red flags like Rice does, that why not Rice.

You're kidding me right? Which one of those guys is supposed to be a "bargain"? Martin is seeking in excess of $7M PER YEAR, Ivory is seeking probably $4-5M a year, and Forte is an aging RB who could cost easily that much.

There's no guarantee Richardson even makes the team (in fact its likely he won't), and he costs like 1/10 of what these other guys cost.

None of the players you listed can even vaguely be considered "bargains" based on price tag alone.

low risk/low cost and a possible high reward move. i say go for it. sounds like they do not want to use any of the draft picks on rb's and they are not sold on the guys we have which i agree with. we cannot afford forte and doug martin

I can agree with those projections for the most part. I just think we can get a Richardson in the draft for 1/4 of the cost. Personally I think we carry too many backs.

not making excuses for the guy but he had crappy o-lines in cleveland and indy. maybe with the locker room guys we have here and harbs on his butt he may turn his career around

Then we will. We can just cut him afterwards. He's probably just a camp body.

Yea we have a lot of backs on the team right now, but obviously that number will be down to around 4 (including fullback) when the season begins. And four is a perfectly reasonable amount of backs to keep.

It's a win win situation bringing Richardson in. Worst case scenario he's not able to make the grade and is let go without signing a huge contract. Ravens can most likely bring him in on a conditional contract should he make the roster. This adds instant competition for guys who thought they were safe' and if Richardson has any drive left to be playing that competition could really turn up the heat. Biggest question is probably determining where he is at physically and mentally. Ravens do this move a lot, as its only ever a camp body your on the line for unless they show promise then a working out a contract doesn't bother you.

This is dumb, make it ridiculously dumb. Unless of course the Ravens want to throw people off because they want to draft Elliott in the 1st round.

This dude is NOT worth the effort. Have we not learned from the whole Schaub Fiasco? WASHED UP VETS DO NOT HELP!

Richardson is not washed up. I think he's only 26. He was just never successful in the first place. I don't think this is going to be similar to the Schaub situation. Schaub got more guaranteed money than Richardson will probably get, and he was brought in to be the backup qb. There is no guarantee that Richardson will make the team. He is probably just being brought in just for a chance to compete for a spot.

im just gonna leave this here.

Richardson-2.jpg

and i dont expect to have to argue about it. because surely, EVEN if you like to argue for no reason at all, about this: there can be no debate.
This is a waste of time. we arent even hurting at RB.

To all of those who are against this, I would like to know how this could possibly hurt us? its not like he is getting huge guaranteed money. At worst he brings competition at the running back position and gets cut in training camp. No harm no foul. Or is there something I'm missing here?

@budman yeah l know just figure of speech. :-) It's like saying if we can't get Forte then l don't want someone bad as Richardson.

I mean, I don't see the point either. But then again, I don't see him making the team, so its not really worth a lot of time complaining about the signing.

We will sign probably dozens of players in the next months who won't make this team.

He has size and prolly can get him for a nice price! I'm not mad at the potential signing because Ozzie is trying to save money like when the squeelers won super bowls with the smallest payroll back in the day!
