SFLegend89's Pre-Combine Mock

8 posts in this topic

I'm only mocking up to our pick as anything after that is anyone's guess this early and that's really what we all care about. I've scoured each teams forums for some added information on their strongest areas of need and their Front Office's typical draft philosophy. I've taken that info into consideration but not as gospel as fans sometimes aren't the best judges of pick selection as they often seek out the sexiest pick possible.

1. Tennesse Titans: Laremy Tunsil, OT, Ole Miss

I think the Titans would prefer to trade this pick and accumulate another 2nd rounder or future 1st but finding a trade partner in the top 10 willing to give that up is a long shot. They will take the best player available and add the highly talented Tunsil to their OL and kick Lewan out to RT. This class lacks a true blockbuster #1 pick but it's hard not to get excited about a franchise LT to help protect Mariota.

2. Cleveland Browns: Jared Goff, QB, California

I've seen Carson Wentz mocked here a decent amount after the Senior Bowl but I think it's a lot of overreaction that we typically see in mocks this time of year. Wentz stock has risen no doubt but I just don't see him going #2 overall. There was a great article on NFL.com in which 2 NFL executives stated they wouldn't even pick Wentz in the 1st round. Browns have not minced words about selecting a QB here, Goff is their guy here for Hue Jackson. Wentz may still go in the 1st but not this high.

3. San Diego Chargers: DeForest Buckner, DE, Oregon

This pick will be sure to stir up some controversy as many will claim Bosa or Ramsey was the pick that should've came in. This however is a guy that really fits what SD needs right now and that's a nuts and bolts type of pick. They will have money to spend in FA to plug holes at skill positions but what they don't want to pass up is a foundation building player for their defensive front to pair up with Luiget. While those claiming that Buckner wasn't the BPA may have some legitimacy to their argument this is a pick that fits the Chargers extremely well. In a class with depth at DB they feel they can wait there.

4. Dallas Cowboys: Myles Jack, OLB, UCLA

This was Jerry Jones & company's guy all along. Such a great fit for their 4-3 defense and an amazing athlete with a very high ceiling. Again people will claim Ramsey/Bosa as the better overall players but again it's just a case of a player really fitting a team to a T. BPA  isn't always the order of the day as many seem to think, Jack was just tailor made for the Cowboys defense. This is a hot mock pick for them and I definitely think it's justified.

5. Jacksonville Jaguars: Joey Bosa, DE, Ohio St.

Blue chip prospects rarely stay on the board for very long and it was perhaps wishful thinking that he would slide to the Ravens at #6. I definitely do get the feeling that Bosa's buzz has died down a little bit and his top 3 status does feel in jeopardy. This is a tough call for the Jags front office as Ramsey would also be a great pick here, ultimately they go with the more impact oriented position and swing for the fences with Bosa. Perhaps getting the steal of the draft as Bosa still could very well be the best player in this class despite his luke warm pre-draft hype right now.

6. Baltimore Ravens: Jalen Ramsey, DB, Florida St.

These first 5 picks will feel like an eternity for Ravens fans and Ozzie Newsome & company alike to see which player the board gifts us. Ultimately things go about as well as you could've hoped and the kid who "Plays Like a Raven" lands in our lap. Ramsey is a special athlete with the ideal size/speed/versatility/instincts you want in a DB. Ramsey is a ferocious blitzer off the edge and can be used all over the defensive back field similar to Tyrann Mathieu. Ramsey may settle in at FS somewhere down the line but if he can make a name for himself as the defense's multi-look swiss army knife there will be no reason to utilize him any other way. Leslie Frazier's arrival is just on time as he serves as the mentor for this young DB. A new generation of Ravens defense is upon us with Mosley, Ramsey, Brandon Williams, Will Hill, and Jimmy as the cornerstones leading us into the future.

while Ramsey could be a great piece to move around and be a great defender I think first Pees will not use him right as he usually does with other players and he freelances to much and can be out of position which has happened way to much in our secondary the last 3 years. I would prefer Thompson from Boise St as a more solid sound technical FS who won't make as any mistakes or be out of position trying to make a play. However the one thing that could help is Leslie Frazier maybe having more pull and override Pees

Thompson finds himself out of position as well. He freelances also but the difference there is that Thompson is a bit smarter with it but lacks the ridiculous athleticism that Ramsey has, which makes every guess that much riskier.

I personally don't think we can go wrong with either one. Bare minimum for both I think is a pro bowl SS. I think Thompson is very underrated as a ballhawk even if he lacks top shelf athleticism

The one thing I will say is that I believe Ramsey could be a perfect fit for our team based on the idea that he would play FS and take Lewis's spot because there was too many times Lewis was just out of position. I think  that Ramsey fits with the Ravens much better.

Earl Thomas could probably play CB if he had a mind, but the Seahawks are smart enough to keep him at FS. He provides the security that allows the rest of the secondary to take risks and create turnovers.

I think Jack and Ramsey are going to trade spots all the way up to the draft. I think Jack has the higher ceiling, but Ramsey feels more like a Raven pick. That said, I am going to seriously freak out if the Brown's spot doesn't go QB (either through the browns or a trade).

Funny how the word,"ball hawk" gets applied liberally to so many players. I hear it frequently regarding Ramsey but his tape doesn't reflect that moniker. He has God given length, size and athleticism but to me looks like a projection which may not come to fruition.

If we take him with Noah Spence on the board....I guess I'll warm up to the idea but the thought of it is both troubling(and I can definitely see it playing out just the way you predict) and puzzling.

Ramsey is just as likely to be Byron Jones as he is to be someone who proves worthy of being picked sixth overall.

Here is my question if Webb is moving to FS I assume Ramsey would play CB due to the fact we are already crowded at S with Webb Lewis Brooks Hill and Elam but I guess the bigger question is do you want Webb at CB or FS and where would you want Ramsey to play. I would rather keep Webb at FS and have a veteran calling coverages as well as him having the best hands in the secondary who can hopefully create some turnovers.
