[News] Nick Boyle Suspended 10 Games For PEDs

68 posts in this topic

I'm not sure what the substance is and what the circumstances are, but regardless this is very disappointing. Such talent that we will be without for more than half the season. Hopefully this dude will be able to learn from his mistakes and realize the subsequent roster moves the team has to make as a result.

Wow what a Waste products. He will be cut and its sucks because he showed so much potential, but i guess you never learn.

He won't necessarily be cut. Asa Jackson was kept after two PED-suspensions, for example.

This changes the free agency and draft landscape a bit, as the way it looks now, we'll have 2 servicable TW's for at least 10 games - and that's assuming neither Gillmore nor Maxx Williams gets hurt (which may ba wishful thinking in Gillmore's case, as he had to miss multiple games due to injury in both of his seasons...). I"m also assuming we won't see Pitta on the field either (though, as a true fan of the guy I really wish-hope he can return and be close to his best form... that wwould solve the problem right away... but I just can't honstly think there's too much hhope of that...)

Luckily, the TE UFA-contingent is extremely deep this off-season, and behind the big names (Antonio Gates, Marcedes Lewis, Jermaine Gresham, Ben Watson, Dwayne Allen, Vernon Davis etc.) there are a ton of mid-tier, but good sounding options like Jared Cook who's just been cut by the Rams. He's nowhere near great, but could come at a reasonable price... And there's players like Tony Moeaki, Rob Housler, Garrett Celek... So, free agency is a definite possibility to patch up this hole. Surely not in the first (pre-draft) wave of free agency.

Or - though it's more of a pipe dream... - maybe the Martellus Bennett-line could be picked up again, as reportedly the Bears won't necessarily hasten to keep him over Zach Miller...

Ouch!
Boyle actually looked better than Maxx Williams in flashes last year.

He definitely did, before he got suspended - but it's very hard to judge TE's by their rookie seasons. Seems like TE is a position that needs a season or two to get acclimated to the NFL...

In their common rookie seasons, for exemple, Ed Dickson clearly outplayed Dennis Pitta (which seemed no wonder back then, as he was picked one round earlier)... And then we all know what followed.

And Maxx Williams definitely seemed to get the hang of it by the end of the season. He seemed definitely promising.

Pass catching TEthis a WTElobut TE? If you can 't do  both  what the heck are you even on this team? Heck some of these offensive lwasman can't block. i.e Joe inj ury.

Agreed. A tight end is A tight end. And pitta Was already thinkin about makin a comeback, this may be even more incentive. We just need to restructure his contract. Plus if we will be running those double and triple tight end sets that trestman Was trying to implement we need another guy. our tight ends are Going to be heavily relied upon. Crockett and a 20 year old maxx Are good but may not be enough. Both were injured periodically throughout the year Too.

Harbaugh also recently hinted at drafting a hybrid wr/Te Type player- and that was before this news broke. I doubt well part ways with boyle But he will Be on a short short leash.

I don't know what he's on but whatever it is he needs to leave it alone and get himself together. Way too young and talented to already have faced 2 suspensions in just one season in the nfl.

Two years in a row and now gone for 10 games. I don't know how it will impact the CAP, but I would seriously consider letting him go or trade him. Ravens have too many holes to fill and little cap space to hang on to a 3rd string knucklehead.

2nd year rook won't count much against the cap, but i would like to hear the entire story before i jump to the conclusion he did this on purpose, as i really doubt he is stupid enough to continue taking it after his 4 gamer....

As for Ngata coming back to Baltimore, he's made it very clear that he wants to stay in Detroit and that's okay. For one, I don't think there's a spot for him on our D-line right now. We are young, strong and robust and will get stronger with Buckner if we go with him.

Ngata was always a greedy player. I hope he stays in Detroit.

I feel like The Ravens are set at TE for the future with Gillmore and Williams and Boyle was going to be like Dickson was a few years ago. He is solid but I don't see them giving him a new contract. Worst part about this whole thing is The Ravens will now probably need to spend some money on a TE in free agency or use a draft pick to get one.

Entire story? He didn't learn his lesson. No matter how you slice it, he is lucky enough to play in the NFL and is on the verge of throwing it all away. 2 strikes. Only 1 more.

Who would "trade" for idiot who is a third string TE, played seldom and doesn't follow rules?

Anyone in the NFL should get the approval from the team doctor before taking anything more than an aspirin. I had high hopes for him but it appears he has no common sense, just cut him.

too much risk hoping this guy does not get that last strike. move on and sign a cheap veteran or hope pitta is able to play and accepts a pay cut

I thought once we got rid of Asa Jackson we wouldn't have to deal with this kind of bone-headed nonsense, at least not for a few years. Thanks, Nick.

I wonder what the chances of Waller converting over to TE are ?  Not so much a receiving TE, but maybe a blocking one.  He can block while he works on his receiving skills.
