[News] Lardarius Webb Can Be 'Even Better At Safety'

23 posts in this topic

We have enough safeties, we just need a system that lets them use their talents. Hopefully Frazier can "unleash" the potential and talent we already have.

So, since Webb has stunk at corner, he`ll just be average at the safety position.
Is that what you mean by saying, Webb can be Even Better At Safety?

Webby is a ball hawk plain and simple and people looking for the next Ed Reeeeeeeeeeeeeeed when he is rite under our very noses! Return kicks like Ed, field the ball inside the 20yd line like Ed and will do more!

IMO it is NOT the system it is the players. It's the same system that has been in place since Ed was here. A huge problem with execution!

Webb can surely be better at Safety albeit after taking a salary commensurate with other safeties, don't you think?

Also, I like the fact that it helps with disguising the back end of the field when you have a Safety that has played CB all his life. IF you can add a player like Ramsey in the draft, imagine the havoc the secondary can cause through confusion for opposing QBs...

It's a crying shame that none of the listed safeties Ozzie has invested in has been able to separate from the pack. But hope springs eternal; next season is a new year and a new opportunity to excel. Here's hoping for the best.

I look at it this way, now that the safety position is even more crowded we should see the competition ramped up even more than before. There is only so many reps to go around, so lets see who really wants them. Hopefully they are learning from past mistakes.

i would like to see Brooks do the opposite, and convert to CB, as he played spot duty as a nickle....Has great speed, and i think we could use more competition at CB....:)

So you think more kick returning is in Webb's future, it seems. As for me, I hope we can find other options. Not that he's bad at it.

Nice translation.

Ed Reed is a once in generation player so Ravens need to stop trying to replace that skill set. Webb should not be handed to position but compete for it. Safeties also have to be the last line of defense and I don't see Webb tackling a RB that breaks through the line or a TE in the open field. Lewis, Trawick, Brooks and maybe ?? Elam are better suited for that. Let Frazier develop these guys. One key to a good secondary is continuity but Ravens are rotating safeties too much. To be honest I think Ravens look at the $9M cap hit and may let Webb go after June 1. It is a matter of avoiding too much dead money.

I believe webb is actually the second best tackler in that secondary behind will hill. Besides webb is probably gonna play deep more often and hill will play closer to the line where he excels in. Cutting him may not make a lot of sense financially but I was hoping for a paycut and we revisit this next year. I really believe Webb has a good chance of playing better at FS than he ever did as a cornerback.

Webb didn't look healthy till the latter part of last season. His skill set fits perfectly for a FS when he's close to 100 percent. He's a good tackler. Surely can call the plays back there. And still has enough speed to run sideline to sideline. Above average hands and could end up with more picks as a FS. His only downside as a cornerback was he lost his cut speed or burst. That's not as necessary when playing FS. Have some fath, Webb is gonna ball!

Increasingly looks as if we're putting our eggs in the Webb at safety basket. They say the position is crowded, but not crowded with players who can cover over the top.

Actually, IF Webb is going to fill that specific safety role, then IMO it will be a group of 1, so we're not very crowded at the FS position. I don't see anyone else that we've got on our roster who has been able to fill that role.

Actually IMO it's both the players are not executing and it's the system to. You said it yourself it's the same system that was here when ed reed was playing and that's exactly why it doesn't work anymore because it's not 2005 anymore and that's why the ravens are changing things now

I believe in Webb somewhat but honestly we need a new free safety. Terrence brooks is pretty good also but he doesn't attack the ball and make plays

This is crazy. It is a very, very poor assumption that a corner who loses a step can just slide into safety. They are two completely different positions. That's like saying a WR can slide down into TE. The guy can't stay healthy at CB, you think he's gonna do any better at S ? He'll have to tackle ALOT. He hasn't played in a preseason game since 2013. He failed his conditioning test last year, it's time to move on. He's making $9m and we should just eat that this year and be completely clear of him by 2017.

Actually, Webb was a Safety until we moved him to CB.
