First mock draft

10 posts in this topic

This is my first attempt at a mock draft. I used CBS Sport's rankings to help. I seen a bunch of mocks with multiple trade, but figured I would do one straight up. Let me know what you think.

1. Titans- Tunsil

2. Browns- Wentz

3. Chargers- Bosa

4. Cowboys- Ramsey

5. Jaguars- Buckner

6. Ravens- Myles Jack, OLB, UCLA, I think his versatility is key here. Being able to play multiple position and being good in coverage would help us a ton. Mosley kept getting beat by RB's in coverage and if we could have Jack cover them instead with his prior skills as a safety would help minimize that threat.

2nd: Eli Apple, CB, Ohio State, Big, strong, physical corner who is outstanding in run support. He locates the ball in the air pretty well.

3rd: Rashard Higgins, WR, Lined up primarily as the "X" receiver. He finds the openings in zones coverages and is a good route runner. He had 1750 yards, with 17 TDs in 2014 and followed that up with 1062/8 in 2015. And he is 6'2" which would be a great redone threat.

4th: DeAndre Houston-Carson, FS, William & Mary, Former CB who had 10 interceptions in his collegiate career. So he is another versatile player that we could use in multiple formations.

4th: Scooby Wright, ILB, Arizona, Had 164 tackles in 2014, but missed all but three games in 2015. Has a high motor and always seems to be around the ball carrier.

4th Comp: Cyrus Jones, CB, Alabama, Plays with a chip on his shoulder and would enjoy playing for his hometown team. Plus he would drastically improve our return game.

4th Comp: Malcolm Mitchell, WR, Georgia, Has the skills to excel, but knee injuries have slowed his progress.

6th: Avery Young, OT, Auburn, Played both tackle and guard. Good run defender.

6th Comp: Ian Seau, OLB, Nevada, 17.5 sacks and 7 forced fumbles in his collegiate career. The nephew of the late great Junior Seau. With the right coaching he could develop.

Same here. Jackson III should be available though and he offers pretty much the same.

But... No pass rusher before the 6th round? I would take one instead of the FS  or the second WR.

I like it. Jack has become my preferred backup plan if Bosa and Buckner aren't there. And Apple, if he's there in the 2nd, would match up well against the big receivers in our division.

Im happy with that.  Ever since I mocked us getting Myles Jack awhile back the idea has seem to come around.  The duo of him and Mosely could be awesome

2nd highest rated player on NFL.com for this draft. I would be happy if we landed him. He is talented and versatile I just hope that his size doesn't become an issue. Shazier comes to mind... Steelers had a lot of hope for him and he hasn't exactly played as expected. He is growing and getting better though. They are similar but not the same person. I could see him flourishing in a Deone Bucannon type role the Cardinals had him at. Playing a linebacker/SS type role. He is bigger than Bucannon so that is a plus. He may be a guy who defenses cannot read where he is going to go and in result give us a couple turnovers. He may be fast enough and strong enough to cover slot receivers. He can basically play anywhere as a linebacker or in the secondary which is helpful.

My thought about the pass rusher was that we could also use Jack as a pass rusher if we were able to get Scooby Wright.

In my opinion you are more likely to see scooby as a pass rusher because of Jacks ability to cover.  But that will not be good enough for how bad our pass rush was a year ago.

Shazier has actually been a real playmaker, the problem is staying healthy, he's always either banged up or sidelined

not a fan of not getting any pass rushers I don't see Scooby as a pash rusher and a developmental pick in the 6th isn't the answer and Jack I don't see him excelling as a pass rusher I like Apple in the 2nd I just would like pass rush bad
