Possibility of Deforest Buckner & Noah Spence???

104 posts in this topic

Spence is going to end up as the best rusher in this class by far. however if he gets suspended for drugs he will do us no good. That being said I THINK those issues are behind him. I think I would literally be equally satisfied with Buckner or Spence. I also look at them as 1A and 1B. Obviously an even tougher scenario would be to have to choose from Buckner, Spence and Ramsey if all 3 are still there at 6. Not likely but very possible. I think one thing we can almost know for certain is that Spence will be there regardless. So that's reassuring.

This is a debate that none of us will really know the details of unless Spence is drafted or media can uncover specifics of what is said in interviews. If we are talking about the #6 pick and not a trade back situation , I can think of a number of players that will be available that have similar talent level to Spence.

Yeah, I agree. It's something we likely won't know and we'll just have to make our own conclusions until evidence confirms or denies our assumptions. I agree that many prospects exist of similar talent to Spence.

I may be in the minority here but I think Spence is being really overrated on this board, don't get me wrong I am a fan, but I think he has a way higher chance to bust than people are giving him credit for. I mean his lack of arm length is concerning, his strength and run defense doesn't seem on par with a top ten pick and we'd basically be drafting him based on his 8 sack season at OSU and the fact that he was a 5 star recruit. Sure you can argue about his year at EKU but if you take away his days at OSU and drafted him solely on the tape from EKU he'd probably be a 3rd rounder at best.

like I said I'm a fan of his and I mentioned him as a potential target months ago but that was when he was projected to go in the 3rd round. I think he's way too much of a risk to draft #6 we don't have the luxury to draft a guy with the concerns he has, because if he busts that could set us back a few years.

Randy Gregory suspension has put a bigger spot light on Spence now with his off field problems. Hope he drops to us in the second.

Again, you can compare these two only on surface. If you do just a little research or read some of the previous posts in threads related to Spence, you'll find out there's a lot of difference.

Imo no way. Buckner will go in top 6 and spence will go in too 20. We'd have to trade up to get both and I don't see Ozzie doing that for a guy that has off the field troubles....

Spence has character concerns and I agree in that I'm not confident we'll take him but Marcus Peters was accused of punching a coach and was kicked off his team by their head coach, while Spence was banned from the B1G after repeatedly testing hot for ecstasy. It's sorta similar

I have watched his interviews and while I'm on the side that believes he has turned the corner, that certainly doesn't mean its guaranteed. Guys like Justin Blackmon and Josh Gordon have claimed numerous times they have turned the corner and as soon as you believe them, they go out and do something that gets them suspended. It's hard to have full confidence in Noah so that could turn me to someone else. I do agree, the comparisons are pretty similar, and I don't agree with the statement that the Ravens don't go after "character guys" or guys with some off-field issues, If I could recall, we wanted Dez Bryant here who obviously had his own character issues.

Would there be a possibility of us drafting Noah Spence and trading up for Andrew Billings if he slips out of the first.

I doubt Billings does but I would do that without even thinking a second thought. Billings looks like he will be a beast.

He was partying on the weekends, took a dirty pee, twice, and when he was banned from the conference he owned up the best way he couldcould, by saying he had an addiction and was working on getting clean. In his circumstances the last thing anyone wanted to hear was the truth, which was "I'm not a drug addict, I just liked to party with the wrong substances on the weekend".

It's entirely possible he had a psychological addiction and could still play football. Plus, he even said this was a bigger issue than just two times in college. He admitted it dated all the way back to high school, so...

Absolutely no chance Spence drops to the 2nd barring a catastrophe at the combine a la Randy Gregory. Spence was ranked as the 5th best player in the Nation coming out of high school and is arguably one of the best players in the entire draft this year and plays a super premium position, there's no other pass rushers this year that are even close to him so it's not like teams looking to add a pass rusher have an alternative option in the 1st once Bosa comes of the board early.. Yeah he has the failed drug tests but he's been clean for over a year now and hasn't failed a test at EKU.

Remember that Randy Gregory absolutely bombed his combine interviews and even no-showed a team. If Spence just has a decent showing at his interviews he's a lock for a top 20 pick. Plus he's probably going to light it up at the drills and increase his stock even more. The Ravens will get one shot at Spence and that's at #6 and I don't see us picking him that high. Pass rushers are just too valuable and Spence is just too good. I hate to say it but if we want to even have a shot at him in the 2nd he has to have a bad combine showing and at that point would he even be worth taking?

I'm just being extremely optimistic before the combine. I'm hoping something happens between now and the draft and slips a bit, because a guy his size with his athleticism is insane. The play where he chased down the RB in open field is crazy.
