[News] Late For Work 2/12: One Raven Makes Top-25 NFL Breakout List

31 posts in this topic

Gotta truly appreciate the way Aiken stepped up and consistently performed over the course of the season.

Put a 2nd round tender on him and let him retire a Raven like he wants.

Congrats Tryod!  Hopefully, we'll get a comp pick for you!

They have already said there will be no Comp pick for Tyrod. Forget the reason why but it was in a article on here a couple of weeks ago. Maybe Mcjacket knows why not.

Depends on which article you believe.

Originally looked like we wouldn't, as comp picks are largely based on contract size.

What as 757 posted, there are more recent articles suggesting we've got a shot to get a late rounder for him.

Good to know. Thanks for the info. I read a earlier article that said no. I believe it was on this site.

Keep Aiken, Perriman finally hits the field, SSS comes back to make one last run and we draft a 3rd round steal like a Shepard or Thomas--who might or might not slide--to solidify a savvy receiving core to complement our TE duo of Maxx and Crockett

Has anyone seen a study to see if the guys that shoot up the draft order after a good combine actually live up to expectations of those around them? I understand scouts get excited to see a guy that is faster than previously thought or can jump higher but to me their on field play should be more of an indicator of future play. I would be weary of a player ranked 20th based on his play and then shoots up to 11 because he had a good day at the combine. Works the other way as well.

I've simulated the 8145 Super Bowl, where the Tulsa Rams beat the Lexington Raiders 45:24, with Ray Lewis's direct descendant under center, throwing to converted WR Peyton Manning...

I would love to hear how WNST’s Luke Jones would explain that he included Z'Darius Smith, a mid-round rookie, who wasn't expected to be a huge contributor, still got 5.5 sacks, or Buck Allen who, despite being #3 on the day #1 depth chart, went on to be the best rookie and stand his ground when suddenly became the #1 RB, are on his "need more from" list, while Matt Elam, a first round pick, who, after an OK rookie season went on to completely fade into oblivion, failed to make the cut...

Seems a tad unfair to me... or Luke Jones just thinks he's beyond hope?

I would stil lthink we'll only get three... but we'll see.

It would be so much easier - and fairer, i might add... - if there was a clear-cut and publicly available formula to decide the comp picks, not this owners-secretly-decide method...

So, who came out on top, Tulsa or Lexington? Lol

I'd be willing to bet the draftees that dropped down the draft board do better than the ones who suddenly shoot up the draft board. No evidence, just a gut feeling.

Loved what Tyrod brought to the Bills this season. It was slightly 'mitigated' due to some games missed from injury but you have to be hopeful for his future.

Come on ESPN....even Nostradamus knew that Jeffery Roethlisberger, Ben's son, in SB 68 would catch the winning TD for the RAVENS. The Ravens head coach, Michael Dean, Mike Tomlin's son, would say it is one of his proudest moments as a Raven! .....fantasy can be fun! lol GO RAVENS!

No one is every going to "game plan" for this guy.......that's all you really need to know. He'll be buried on the depth chart once bodies are healthy again.

Don't bite on the media garbage (ESPN adn WNST). Remember the networks who pay the writers to write this garbage are also telling them what their witting opinions will be before they even start. These people don't like the Ravens cus they don't fold when told to do so and keep fighting through all obstacles. At all costs mainstream media only cares to express the opinions they pick out for you. Best to not listen to people who don't even care about facts. Don't be spoon fed.

I am assuming "this guy" is Kamar Aiken. He wasn't even a number 1 until half way through the season and still came within a couple yards of 1000. Based on those numbers, it sounds like somebody SHOULD have game planned because, based on your analysis, this #5 receiver (who will be buried on the depth chart) embarrassed a bunch of teams and top defenders who he drew as a #1. I doubt a Ravens fan would take that mentality with Aiken so it is obvious we have some Squealer implants on our board.

Saying we need "more" out of Perriman is kind of like dividing by zero, isn't it?

More would be like getting two feet on the field in a real NFL game.

No offense to Aiken, but he is not a "# 1" WR for any team in the NFL. He did well, but he was pressed into being our "# 1" by virtue of injuries to literally everyone else, and Torrey being gone. Aiken had a great season compared to the rest of his career, and good for him. I'm happy for him for that. But we should not be moving forward looking at him as a long-term starter, in my eyes. It's still highly questionable whether or not last year's first rounder will ever even see the field, let alone have an actual impact. So we certainly need consistency. But betting on a former practice squad guy, and a WR that's going to be 38 years old.....is not a winning formula.

I wouldn't say he necessarily embarrassed them, considering those teams may not have even cared how many yards he got.

We pretty much know teams like Seattle didn't give him shadow coverage because they didnt feel they needed to, and they were correct.

Given some of the blowout losses we took while he was the #1, I'm not sure too many teams were walking out of there thinking Aiken embarrassed them. They may have gained more respect for him though.

The Ray Rice article is very interesting. It's amazing to me that an organization as powerful as the NFL with a cartel-like grip on the sport can still have its pans thwarted by a single player. Just shows how conglomerates are inefficient and inflexible despite all the advantages of the power.
