I'm worried about numerous problems with our roster presently. We lack a Pass Rush and CB are problems 1A & 1B. With Darryl Smith's release, we're projecting starting a career backup next to Mosley, which won't do him any favors either. To me, we don't have an option but to address those three positions with our next pick. I don't believe Tapper, or anyone of that caliber, is available in the 4th. Dodd, Ogbah, Calhoun are going to come off the board in the 2nd IMO, and Tapper in the 3rd. That leaves us with mediocre options at DE. Meanwhile guys like Charone Peake, Aaron Burbridge, Demarcus Robinson should all be available in the 4th.

The alternative is that we don't address ILB in the draft, which would be a huge mistake IMO. We know we're going to address Pass Rush & CB, but I don't think our ILB problems can be overstated.

Good point about Tapper in the 3rd.

My concern is that it looks like you traded away picks in the fourth to get back into the second round.  I know it's very difficult to find starters in the fourth round.  But trading up like that pretty much means sacrificing a position at this point.  We could still sign someone before the regular season.  But I'm very reluctant to lose picks because of the holes we seem to agree on.

I'm glad we didn't go with Tunsil, even though that video was 4 years old, he hangs out with the wrong crowd. He also is getting sued by his step father. He sounds like he has a lot more going on in football.

That's a legitimate concern, I think. In my mind, we're trying to find those "Instant Coffee" guys that the FO is referring to. We know we have to have Instant Coffee at Pass Rush, CB, ILB, and DE right? Well, problematically we wont find 4 starters with the picks we have remaining. I think the talent falls off sharply after round 2. There's legitimately 7 guys that would start for us at positions of need on the board right now. We know we'll get one of them at #36, but after that we'll be waiting until #70 to pick another one up. Let's assume that we find starters at both of those selections, which is possible! I don't have any faith that we can address the other half of our problems with how top heavy this draft is. I'd give up any number of our 4th round picks to move back in between #40-#50.

Please go get spence trade back into the second grab cravens.

what will it take to trade back into the 2nd without giving up our third?

We will most likely have to give up our 3rd and a 4th to move up into the middle of the second.

I don't think it was 4 years old, you could hear the TV in the background and someone was talking about Myles Jack needing microfacture surgery

edit - may have been someone elses re-recording

Haha some players want to learn the hard and expensive way, then you get the rare ones who never learn.

If that is true, he needs to be tested and suspended for the first 4 games. That'll teach Miami.

I'm glad we stayed away from Tunsil. He sounds like a PR nightmare. I'm sure Kevin Byrne slept better last night lol.

Agreed. In fact, I was so petrified that the draft room would be locked up and our front office would be so focused on making a selection that I thought they would miss this video. Thankfully my concerns were alleviated when we chose Stanley instead.

I could be wrong actually, I may have been watching someone elses recording of the video, with the second party's TV in the background. Saw the same video on Deadspin without that audio in the background.

I think DE, ILB, and OLB need instant coffee because of the roster holes (Canty, Smith, Upshaw-but-really-McPhee).  Technically CB would start the season as a backup to Smith, Wright, and whoever is healthy that week.  So I'm somewhat okay bumping that down to fourth and taking a prospect/ST guy.  Cyrus comes to mind.

So I'm counting on that high fourth round pick to grab a starter.  Defensive Line seems like the most likely because of the depth there, but maybe a tweener like Schobert or Ochi at OLB.  I know that's a high-risk move.  We're not exactly going to get a pro-bowler there.  But we do tend to get some value out of our late picks.  So I'm hoping for a role player at least.

So I guess the real difference is I'm rolling the dice with one starter anyway.  So I'm keeping the extra 4th round picks to fill in with depth and prospects, especially in the secondary.

That's logical. I think everyone knows we have issues at both the places we're talking about. Ultimately, I'm comfortable picking BPA at either position.

By the way, don't touch Cyrus Jones. He's not a good CB.

This conversation made me realize how concerned I am about middle linebacker.  No wonder I like Ragland too much, Cravens too.  But I don't think we take either in the second.

I think it is easier to find someone to play at inside linebacker than in the secondary or a pass rusher. A player I want really bad at inside linebacker with one of our 4th round picks is Miles Killebrew from Utah. He is that hybrid linebacker/safety that can get everywhere on the field.

I think he goes in the back of the second, though.  Fast players left the board early last night, on offense and defense.  I think the tweeners and hybrid players have extra value this year for their speed alone.  We've already seen two strong safeties go off the board before anyone expected.  I think Killebrew has exactly the skill set that moves him up at least a round.

That is what I am afraid of. Maybe we snatch him with a 3rd. I've heard throughout the process he is a round 3-6 guy which doesn't really give you much clarity on where he is going. I think next to Mosley he would be so good. He may struggle at first but I think he is an insane player.

I agree, I just happen to like Cravens in the same role a little bit more.  That could have been Myles Jack if he still had both knees.

The thing is, I'm having a hard time finding anyone else like those guys.  Maybe it's the way sites have them listed (weak side LBs being in the same position as pass rushers, but totally different in our 3-4).  So the position seems deep to me, yes.  But those fits seem scarce.  Maybe we go with a guy like Ragland or Matakevich instead.  But I'm hoping for a coverage-oriented hybrid with good speed.   That may be asking too much.

What's the chance Noah spence drops to the 3rd round? I want Alexander in the second then trade back into the second to get spence

We'll be lucky to get him in the second. I think there is a bigger likelihood of Alexander dropping than Spence possibly. But, hey surprising things happen all over the draft.

Yeah I think someone will move up to the top of the second to pick him. I'm really surprised he fell into the second, maybe he copped some of the Tunsil backlash? it's been a really weird draft but they always are.

As soon as I saw the Tunsil video I wasn't too shocked by his drop but what really messed with me was Bosa going third, and TEN trading up for Conklin.
