Rule changes you like to see

17 posts in this topic

Play clock 30 seconds. Cannot start clock until ball,Sticks and yard marker is set.

No more illegal contact foul.

Pass interference= You cannot touch reciever when ball is up the air

No more silly time outs to ice the kicker before snap of the ball. Once ball is placed on centers hands you cant call timeout.

No more halftime interviews on field. If reporters want to talk to the coach do it the end of the game.

Players cant wear their hair long hair must be cut where you can see last name on uniform.

2 challeges per half. Lets get the call right. That includes you can challenge call even after 2:00 warning. But you cannot challenge in OT. Also replay refs can buzz refs at anytime.

Extra point try from 5 yard line. 2 Point try from 3 yard line.

OT Rules,, You play a full 15 minute overtime quarter. No time outs  and 1 minute TV time out when theres a score. No TV time outs after 4th down punts. If Game is still tied then next quarter is you must win by 6 points then game is over.

I guess you don't remember those 80s? NFL had some high scoring games back then when that rule was in place. Teams like Miami and San Diego lit up the scoreboard because of that rule.

I'd like to see rules revised to reduce the refs impact on the game.

1) Penalize taunting, only when it is egregious - and then it is a 5 yard penalty and no automatic 1st down.

2) Create a difference between unnecessary roughness and a personal foul/late hit. One has no risk for injury, the other does. A shove after the whistle should be a 5 yard penalty - a take down or blasting someone after the whistle can remain 15 yards and an automatic 1st down.

3) Adopt NCAA rules on targeting. Review and pick up the flag if no contact to the head. If contact to the head is deemed malicious, the player gets ejected.

4) Coaches should be allowed 3 challenges, but only 2 failed challenges. To have to be right on both to get a third is silly.

5) Eliminate illegal contact penalty. Holding is still 5 yards auto 1st and PI is PI, but these ticky-tack touch fouls that get called on 3rd and a mile drive me nuts.

Of course, none of this is likely to happen, but I dare to dream.

As for the proposed rule changes, I'd say I don't understand the harm in adding cameras ... the better the chance that we get a better view of reviews. I think the refs cop out a lot with saying the ruling on the field "stands". They rarely seem to say it is confirmed.

I also don't mind the concept of awarding both teams a possession in OT

Oooh I do like to see NFL adopt that NCAA targeting rule. Just imagine James Harrison getting ejected every game

Basically, I'm saying I'm in total favor of rules that truly have player safety in mind and reducing the amount of penalties that are to enforce morality/sportsmanship, but have no bearing on safety.

I see a penalty like the one Amendola committed in the playoffs as criminal. The dude he hit left the game and may not have returned for weeks. The net result was a 2 yard penalty (half the distance to the goal). Amendola goes to the sidelines and his teammates are giving him high-5s for a foul that could have totally damaged someone. There is no way he should have been allowed to play out that game.

Honestly, I think a face mask penalty like the one Talib had should also be considered an ejectable offense. How can that penalty - where he grabbed the facemask and took him all the way to the ground with it be the same as one where a guy gets his finger inside the mask and releases a split second after?

Look - I like hard hitting football and sometimes the defenseless receiver rule call is crap and gets called just because the defender made an awesome hit (but that could be corrected with replay and picking up the flag if the blow wasn't to the head). But when a blow to the head, is involved that needs to be taken seriously.

I would like to see an Unconverted touchdown be made to be worth seven points, with the conversion either run or passed from the two yard line - just as the legendary World Football League did back in the seventies.

Nope. New Rule is stupid. Move it to five yard line or make TD 7 points automatically put if you decide go for 2 and if you don't make it they take 1 point off.

Arm wrestling in place of a coin toss.

Nah why not adopt the XFL idea who get the ball first.

My idea is this place ball on 50 yard line. One player from west goal line and one player from east goal one. Ref fires a gun and who ever gets the ball and secures it like a fumble recovery that team choses ether kick or receive. But a false start you get 1 warning and do it again if you do it again you lose the choice ether kick or receive
