[News] Will Davis Working His Way Back, Has Big Goals For 2016

19 posts in this topic

There is actually a legit chance that the secondary could be a strength for us next year. We may draft a CB early, Jimmy Smith and Will Davis may be back at full strength, and if Wright can continue playing the way he did at the end of last season, we'll have solid starting corners and decent depth. I think Webb is going to be a good safety, but the other safety position is still a big question mark.

HOPEFULLY! The injury bug goes somewhere else this year, the Raven have had more than their share of that. He looked real good before the injury, let's see if he comes back strong. GO RAVENS!

will hill is a top ten safety in the league. the question mark is webb and if he can make a smooth transition to safety.

I'll second that comment about the injury bug. although we had a small sample of Davis last year, I have high hopes for him next year

As RavensBaltimore said... our secondary could finally become a strong point in the very near future (if we can limit our injury streak to just the past 2 years)

Here's to hoping Webb can stay healthy, too.....

The other safety position is a big question mark? How's that?

This is precisely why I don't feel pressured into wanting the Ravens to go DB in the first round unless of course we have a potentially generational talent fall to us like a Ramsey. Again if there is a pass rusher of equal talent out there who falls to us, I'll have zero guilt, make that prefer that the Ravens pick the pass rusher instead. Not just Will Davis who is a talented player, but we'll have Shareece Wright back on a small contract who really played well towards the end of the season and I still believe Tray Walker will grow wings and begin to fly!

i am putting my $$ on elam to make some noise next season.

Safe bet to make, coming up a contract year and whether he wants to remain a Raven of not, he needs to show more than he has to date for any teams to offer a contract when the time comes. Hopefully the fire is already lit.

Disregard that part of my comment. I have no idea what I was thinking there.

When they moved Webb to safety the secondary improved. I think pass rusher is a bigger need. Suggs and Doom are not getting any younger. They need another first round stud for the future.

No offense.....but why are we writing an article about a guy who had one PD and one tackle as a Raven last year? Or for that matter, a guy who has never done anything significant in his entire career so far. You want to fix the secondary? Draft a CB and bring in some real safeties, because the ones we've got are awful. Say goodbye to Webb (his time is long since done), and hope that Jimmy can stay healthy and be consistent. And if he can't, replace him too, because it's been a very long wait for him to consistently live up to his first round billing. Jimmy has shown flashes, but that's it. Flashes. He either doesn't play consistently well, or can't stay healthy long enough to. Either way, our secondary has been a mess for three seasons running now. Let's not make it four.

1. Because we invested in him by trading for him.

2. Because we need depth. There's practically no scenario where our team or any teams top 4-5 secondary players are healthy for a full season. If we only care about starters, we are doomed.

3. It's not overly realistic to expect rookie secondary players to have huge impact in year 1, regardless of where they are drafted. Probably the biggest learning curve position in the NFL in year 1.

4. In your scenario, there's just literally no possible way to upgrade 3-4 secondary positions in a single offseason. That's a 2-3 year project at least. The secondary isn't likely to look dramatically different in one year.
