Change the NFL Draft location every year

26 posts in this topic

Considering the fact that only 32 cities have NFL teams, I think they should move the draft every year to certain areas/cities that don't have a team.

The entire country supports the NFL and moving the draft to other cities will allow those locals to get a chance at participating in the NFL experience.

Just a random thought.  Carry on.

LA could be a spot.

They just signed a deal for the combine through I think 2020 in Indy.

I'm pissed Reynolds wasn't even invited. No respect for him whatsoever and it is sickening

My thoughts exactly I mean you couldn't find room for one guy who has signed up to protect this country really?

I'm sure the heads at NFL have thought through every single scenario and run this by every TV network and have financial modeling data on every such permutation that we fans can think of. After all they are only out to make money and increase the popularity of the game. They'll do what ever is in the best interests of the league and its financial viability. So, what we see is what they've decided is best for their revenue model.

Bring it to Los Angeles. Beautiful here. When the Ravens make there selection there might be. Small quake, a sign that our pick is future hall of famer!

And on top of that he put up ridiculous numbers in his time with Navy. It's not like he should be in strictly cause he went to Navy, but with the numbers he put up it's hard to say how all of these other no-namers with unimpressive stats/potential made it over him

I have always thought the draft should move around,

would love atlanta to have a draft.

I think each nfl team city should host an event.

I think they should move it to Sydney.

But I might be a little biased there.

Nah, if I could pick I'd say Wellington. There are plenty of places with a bigger capacity than RCMH so it'd be capable of hosting - and it's a 90-minute drive if I stick to the speed limit (which I'd always do because I would never condone anything illegal).

But then if I could have full say I'd just pick some nearby school hall. I'm sure Goodell would love announcing the picks in a school gym or something. And I'd be the only one in attendance so booing him would get weird. :P

True but they did close off that entire park in Chicago as well.

Yeah that would be really odd lol

I'm happy to open the doors of my beach house on Waiheke for that event

Share the wealth people. Every year a new venue should be chosen period ! The league doesn't just consist of those y'all have proposed. Every city should share in the hype wealth and proceeds that revolve around the NFL brand. Yet we get warm weather games every year. Football is played in all weather with the exception of lightning/tornado/hurricanes. To mitigate the process of hosting the bowl and workouts etc panders to the league and it minions and is a constant reminder that not all is fair in the grand scheme of things. We spend money and enjoy the game as much as everyone else. If you can't stand the heat get out of it. Same goes for the cold. Its the fair thing to do. Will it happen ? Money talks ! JS

Argument: Well we can't sell tickets.  my response: It's A load of Bull.

They will sell and will actually level the playing field significantly in all respect.

Have you guys ever looked into the festivities surrounding the draft? I did earlier today.. 1500 for a ticket and it has a miniature town packed with fans and football related activities. Hotel and flights are included.

Sounds like way too much to move around every year, too much city planning that has to also be coordinated with the NFL

It doesn't sound like the west coast is reasonable due to the time difference.  If it starts there at 5, it's 8 here on the east coast.  You can't really push it back any later, and if you do it at 5, you're sitting right at the end of the work day.  It'd be feasible if it was a weekend, but when you're talking about week nights, it makes it tough.

I think that's something the NFL is definitely interested in. Chicago hosted the 2015 draft and that drew interest, plus the city enjoyed hosting it. It's going back there for 2016, too. It would have to be a decently sized metropolis area, which isn't a problem for the majority of NFL cities. Wouldn't work logistically, but a cool idea could be that the city with the top pick hosts the event - or the city with the most first rounders or something.

The combine is a different animal. As @GrimCoconut said, Indianapolis has been the traditional choice because of its indoor facilities and its central location. There's less fanfare around the combine, as well. Though, if the NFL wanted to draw more interest, increased access and a venue change should definitely be on the table.

All the more reasons why they should move it to different cities.  Let other's get the NFL experience.

If they can plan every year for a SuperBowl in a different city, why cant they do the same w/ the draft?

You put it up for bid for future years and you let the cities know years in advance when they're hosting the draft.

The NFL can easily say, the draft will be in Chicago thru 2017 but we're accepting bids now for 2018 and beyond

for other cities to host.  It really wouldn't be that hard.

I'm surprised that the combine isn't open to the public via ticket sales.
