COCO should have discussions about moving FA and the draft closer. The game is dead right now and not much is going on.

We have the RFA period coming up in a few hours and the FA periods to follow. There are trade negotiations happening around the clock every hour. The game isn't remotely close to being dead.

I beg to differ, last year was definitely much more livelier around this time.

I definitely understand the point of moving everything up but it's not easy coming into this game with no knowledge of a team you may get stuck with due to luck. This would be especially more difficult for new players to the game. The only way I can see this being fair is doing two random lists for team selections where new players to the game are put into their own list, sorted by a mod, and then the veteran players of this game are sorted and put into their list, where the new players would automatically be higher than veterans and would thus have first dibs in choosing their team.

It still doesn't fully solve the problem where you have veterans who won't know their teams well and could end up trading or cutting promising young players they don't know a well.

Also this down time is a time to unload players for most teams. Most trades occur during this time to get ready for free agency. Losing that would be tough.

A vast percentage of the discussions in past year's thread was regarding teams' trade blocks, for which we have a separate thread. We begun this thread on February 8th this year, and the 2015 version begun on February 2nd. In comparison, the difference between the discussion and trade quantities combined is roughly just a handful of pages. Some of that can be attributed to the fact that we're no longer going on off-topic tangents and posting pictures and .gifs. There's a stark difference between less conversation and the game being dead. I receive messages from multiple members per day, whether it's about trades, advice, opinion, etc. I know of numerous members who experience the same amount of volume. This game is as lively as the participants make it. In either case, we're about to begin the RFA process, which will lead directly into the FA bidding. There's nothing to move up at this point.

That's actually a fair point. I may have missed this discussion in the last two years it's been had since I don't recall taking part of it, but especially with regards to picks between the 3rd and 7th rounds since they're worth .5 Stars. It does handicap teams for the FA periods. If I'm not mistaken, the only augmentation would come deducting picks from those rounds from the total if the team has at least 51 players, which doesn't sound like a difficult task. I'm racking my brain and am not coming up with any significant downsides. If anyone has any specific reservations, please chime in.

I wasn't as vocal about it and posts sometimes get lost in the off topic shuffle. I don't care how it's executed. I just gave an example because I don't think you should criticize without offering a solution of your own.

I like that approach. It's currently being discussed internally.

It completely makes sense. Most of these trades are off because they don't account for top 51. They write - 5 stars when it should read - 4.5

I'm just kinda curious, would it have helped if we would have waited and started later instead of getting into the game right away after the Super Bowl?

The idea is to get it done before the real draft.  Last year we did much better on time (started March 1st, ended march 27th).  Being that we're starting a bit later and we never really know how long it's going to take for the draft, it makes sense for us to start as soon as possible.

It's also done due to the draft a franchise game, which typically always goes until the preseason.

Differ all you want, but there's been plenty of activity - mostly behind the scenes, so the activity levels depend on the GM in question. And while RFA will probably be fairly slow, the more active part of the game is about to begin.

Activity-wise the game's fine as it is.

It might be a  adjustment period for those that played last year since the forum layout is different now.

How much closer can we make it?  We've essentially had a week buffer from when we were allowed to start to the first FA period...

Considering we are still waiting on certain players to post their Depth Charts and SOF, I think the time frame for the game is fine.

I think it is perfectly fine, about the right time to get to FA as a Lot of trades have been Done by now

This is true.  I for one have had a lot of activity, both initiated by myself and others initiating trades and now I'm ready for free agency, which begins in 40 minutes.

Same here, I think it is fine the way it is. I have quite a few trade talks going on, I think a Depth Chart is still missing, so I dont think we have to change that.

When is the Free agency thread going up for RFAs?

10 minutes I believe - it should be the same thread as the ST guys.

how much do we have to bid on RFA to start

You have to bid more than they are tendered for so it depends on the tender

So how exactly does RFA work? Do I just bid like on normal FAs or do I just mention my intend on bidding on the particular RFA, while sending my bid to a third owner after the FA period who will then question the current team if they want to match the best offer for said player, or if they are happy with compensation?

You bid in the thread.  It has to be at least 0.5 stars above the tender price.  The team that placed the tender then has the option to match the offer or not.  If they choose to, they go back to the original team.  If not, they're yours.

I guess they just match the best offer after the period is over right?
