The unnoticed Lawrence Guy

So I understand he hasn't been the anchor of our defense, and has been inconsistent, but out of curiosity I watched his stats of the year and was very surprised by his evolution:

To say he's made a leap wouldn't make him justice, and I recall when Canty was inujured in the beginning of the season, he was our leader in sacks and playing at Canty's level, maybe better. So while the hype around Buckner is real, why not give LG a chance to compete with Urban? He could very well turn out to be a 7/8 sacks/year guy if we continue to developp him, wouldn't you think?

He looked like a rotation body when he first got here but he's improved a lot an can be disruptive, he's still not stout enough to start he gets put on skates but then so does our entire line outside of Williams.

I like what he's done here. With the eventual departure of Canty, Guy is likely going to be the starter in name. There's still going to be a heavy rotation of course, but I'd think he'd be the "#1 option" there.

He's entering the final year of his two-year deal he signed last off-season, so I think he's given a chance to shine & probably leaves next offseason. I like what he's done here and he's been an underrated addition ever since we acquired him off of waiver or whatever it was from SD.

He's a great role player. A great rotational piece.  He struggles against the run sometimes but his ability as a pass rusher and penetrator is underrated. He can be extremely disruptive at times. His hustle, pursuit, and relentlessness are also admirable. He's always chasing the play.

So would you guys rather have him on 3rd downs and Urban on the 1st and 2nd?

Actually, I'd rather have Urban on third down. He's an athletic freak for his size, and he's not built very thick. He's a strong dude but his base isn't as wide and sturdy as Guy's.

I agree and with his size he'd get a lot of batted passes, especially on passing downs.

With Canty's +$2million cap hit, I certainly believe that Guy and Urban make him a post June 1st cut. Guy shows random flashes, but for a rotational guy, that is all we need out of him

While everyone is looking for an upgrade in the pass rush, Guy had 4.5 sacks in 6 games sarted. He will be very decent as a starter, as a pass rusher he's better than Canty.

Canty, goodbye. Add Deforest Buckner via draft, and that would give us Buckner, Williams, and Jernigan. That would be the best 3-4 DLine in football. Young and explosive. Good against run and pass. Have Urban and Guy to fill in behind them. Carl Davis provides some added depth at NT. Boom! The strongest part of our team. We can keep our Dline fresh all game by rotating guys in.

I can see this happening if Buckner is there

buckner will be there but I don't think he'll be the best player available. I like him but I'm not as high on him as some are.

But on Guy... He's a very good rotational player. Not sure if either he or Urban will be the "starter" but I don't think it really matters. Urban, Jernigan, Guy and Davis will be heavily rotates.

Guy is definitely under-rated. High motor, big effort player. But I think his value would decrease if he was leaned on heavily to be an every down, or even majority of the downs type player.

He is quickly becoming the JJ of the D-line! Unsung but critically important.
