Mad Pup's Crazy Mock

11 posts in this topic

I'm not a prodigious NCAA watcher but here is my attempts at a mock for the Ravens.

Feel free to pick it apart, I've made these assumptions:

1. Bosa, Ramsey, Tunsil are not available, and no trades....

1b. Noah Spence is not someone Ozzie will target based on off field issues. And will be gone mid 1st anyway.

2. I've gone almost strictly for need (DE, OLB, ILB, OT, CB, WR,)

3. Tried to focus on Playmakers, but not all of the picks are playmakers obviously

1. Deforest Buckner, DE Oregon

  • I think he fits the Wizard of Oz's philosophy. Build from the OL & DL.
  • Will get after the QB, and can play the run
  • Seems a good consolation prize of Bosa is gone

2. Jason Spriggs OT Indiana

  • A good move OT with lateral quickness
  • Fits the zone scheme
  • 4 year starter
  • played well against top competition
  • could fill in day one or as fill in WHEN our current LT goes down with injury

3. Sterling Shepard WR Oklahoma

  • Just like SSS, he is undersized but sturdily built
  • Great routes and hands
  • Can fill the Punt/kick return roles as SSS understudy
  • Has better speed that expected

4a. Deiondre' Hall CB Northern Iowa

  • Big Corner with long arms
  • Did well in Sr. Bowl practices
  • Would like to wait till 4th round but is a current draft board riser might not be there?

4b.Maliek Collins DT Nebraska

  • Another Ozzie style pick DL in the 4th round
  • Good character guy fits the overall goal of the team. no worries for off the field stuff

4c (comp). Yannick Ngakoue OLB(rush) Maryland

  • Local prospect teams might sleep on
  • undersized but good motor as a pass rusher
  • Will he fall this far? was highly productive at Maryland

4d (comp). Josh Perry ILB Ohio St.

  • Called a thumper with great leadership abilities
  • could fall this far based on weakness in the pass
  • Seen wild projections on him as high as 2-3rd round
  • Surrounded by talent at Ohio st.

6. Cyrus Jones CB Alabama

  • Here is the Bama pick
  • Undersized corner but good production

6 (comp). Graham Glasgow C Michigan

  • Versatile Inside lineman played both C and G
  • Brother Harbaugh will have the inside skinny
  • Strong but not overly mobile
  • Had a drinking issue in college, kinda shot in the dark pick

7(comp). Kenny Iloka SS TCU

  • Knee Injured during season who fits late round flyer profile
  •  is Big 6'2" and Ozzie is still looking for Safety help

There you have it my attempt at a Ravens draft filling needs. Let me know your opinions.

I loved it until the 4th round. Buckner, Spriggs and Shepard? I'm jumping in that train.

After that, it's either bold, either I don't like it. Ngakoue, for example, will go in the beginning of the 3rd. And I don't see the point in drafting another DL, Jones should be drafted instead, he's going in the 4th.

I agree with Jac.  If we picked those three players in the first three rounds, I'd be ecstatic.  That being said, I think there is a very good possibility CB will be addressed in the first three rounds.  My guess is if we don't draft CB in the first it will be in the 2nd and then hopefully we can p/u Shepard in the 3rd.

Other than Collins I would be happy I would rather get more of a FS type obviously if we keep KO then we can replace Spriggs with Fuller and then can maybe get Bush the S from Miami I think we would be fine without another DT. Overall I like it alot Perry and Jones may not be there at those picks

3/4 of the 4th rounders probably won't be there and Hall is a project. Collins is a borderline 2nd/3rd rounder, he doesn't really have any red flags that would make him fall to the late 4th. I guess Perry may be there but I don't think so, I do like him and would love it if he did. Ngakoue is a great pass rusher and I'd be surprised if he made it to the 4th at all, let alone late. Everything else is fine but the 4th needs to be re-looked at, it'd be great if they were there and we got them but it's unlikely.

The comp picks we are predicted are currently 4th McPhee, 4th T. Smith, 5th Daniels and possibly a 7th for Taylor.

I think most people would be happy with your first 3 picks based on no trades.

Perry is a mid 2nd rounder thats some fall to the 4th comp spot, currently ranked 74 but you have him taken in 140's.

Hall is predicted to go rounds 2-3 and would need to fall a full round.

Coliins would be around the top of round 4 but Hargrave should be there at that spot.

C. Jones is currently in the 4th and would have to drop two rounds for 6th, think our comp is a 5th not 6th so may get there.

Ngakoue is predicted a 6th rounder but I agree using a 4th comp on him, may not be there in 5th comp spot.

Glasgow has risen to 5th round range but has off field issues so could drop again, Dahl is predicted here but think he will shoot up to 4th range.

4a. Scoobie Wright III ILB Arizona

  • Reliable tackler
  • Great instincts
  • Didn't play in traditional Defense, might have inflated numbers
  • Out almost all of 2015 with knee (Meniscus)

4b. Deiondre' Hall CB Northern Iowa

  • Big Corner with long arms
  • Did well in Sr. Bowl practices
  • Would like to wait till 4th round but is a current draft board riser might not be there?

4c. (comp). Cyrus Jones CB Alabama

  • Here is the Bama pick
  • Undersized corner but good production
  • I think he will have a hard time finding suitors till here

4d (comp).Yannick Ngakoue OLB(rush) Maryland

  • Local prospect teams might sleep on

  • Will he fall this far? was highly productive at Maryland

  • Had a drinking issue in college, kinda shot in the dark pick

6 (comp). Victor Ochi OLB (rush) Stony Brooke

  • Small player from a small school
  • good instincts and a bit of a tweener (safety/LB)
  • might be a Special team star & special package player

7(comp). Kenny Iloka SS TCU

  • Knee Injured during season who fits late round flyer profile
  •  is Big 6'2" and Ozzie is still looking for Safety help

OK I've been seeing some consistent comments about a few players that will likely not be available when I chose (Perry in particular). I replaced Perry with  a more likely scenario of Scoobie Wright III....He is projected from rounds 3-4 so at the top of 4 is possible. I still feel Hall could fall to the 4th and left him there. I like Cyrus Jones enough to move him to the 4th as many suggested. Lastly adding Victor Ochi as a flyer late round pick from a small school.

Obviously leaving the top 3 alone everyone seemed to like those picks.

I'll have to come back to this after the combine and see what gives.

I still don't believe Ngakoue will be available, but that's nitpicking because there will be some good pass rushers in the 4th (Schobert, Fackrell, Ochi, maybe Jenkins...) and the rest of the draft has me drooling. I also find it realistic, which makes it even better. One of my favourite mocks so far.

Talent wise he should not be there, but he is listed pretty low on most boards so who knows with Ngakoue. If you take him in the 2nd some will say its too early if you take him in the fourth some will say its too late. I think he's a guy where we really wont ever know his draft stock because he's going to slide one way or another by way of what we as fans don't see and that's the interviews.
