First Attempt At Mock

14 posts in this topic

I have never done a mock before. Now please understand that this is my first and just a dream scenario. With that said, please still don't hold anything back and correct and critique as much as you want. Feel free to explain why certain picks won't pan out so I can adjust and try again. In this scenario we trade our 1st and denvers 4th for the Rams 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th. I don't see them giving us both of their seconds even though that would be great. This way, they get a 1st rounder, a 2nd rounder, and a 4th rounder. We get a later 1st, but also get 2 2nd, 2 3rd, and an earlier 4th. I also assumed we would get 2 4th and a 5th comp pick. I know some of these player will have to fall a lot to land in our laps (especially Ngakoue and Joseph) but it happens. I looked at mocks last year that had Jaelen strong going to us in the 1st and he fell to the 3rd. One of the first mocks I looked at last year had Diggs going to the patriots 32nd overall and he fell to the 5th. So it's possible. But anyway, here it is.

1-Noah Spence-OLB
2-Eli Apple-CB
2-Micheal Thomas-WR
3-Jerald Hawkins-OT
3-Bronson Kaufusi-DE
4-Yannick Ngakoue-OLB
4-Karl Joseph-SS
4-Terrance Smith-MLB
4-Cyrus Jones-CB/RS
5-Demarcus Robinson-WR
6-Graham Glasgow-OC

Hawkins may be a reach there and I'm personally not a fan of kaifusi but I like it overall. Does a good job adressing a lot of holes with quality players at the top and quality depth later on

I like kaufusi b/c of the very real possibility of us cutting canty again. We will need another big guy like canty. We have urban and guy but we will still need a decent DE to take canty a spot. Even if urban or guy is the starter, with canty potential gone, having another mammoth of a man couldn't hurt. But if we were to pass on kaufusi, I wouldn't mind us taking a better ILB.

I get that I actually love buckner for our first pick for that reason, however I just don't think kaufusi will be good. He's another long and tall pure power player who plays far too upright. NFL linemen will get up under his pads and mop him up and down the field. I see another margus hunt in him

No matter who we take, I really hope Baltimore takes a DE somewhere early. Urban and guy are good rotation players and that's really it. We need an every down DE. Canty is a phenomenal run stopper but we also need someone to get to the qb or at the very least draw more double teams to free up others.

Overall I like it if we hit the 1st 2nd and 4th as you have it I would be thrilled I also think the 3rd there are better options I like if he's there OT Murphy from Stanford or Joe Haeg or Joe Dahl in Hawkins spot probably the 1st two more some scouts think Dahl is more of a G. For Kaufusi maybe someone like Charles Tapper from Oklahoma while not  huge pass rusher is a  good run defender with a more NFL type DE body type more compact like 6-3 275-280 ish range

Overall I love it, I hardly see the Rams giving us this much but why not? here are the modifications I would put:

-Take Spriggs over Michael Thomas, then Shepard instead of Hawkins.

-Ngakoue instead of Kaufusi in the  3rd, or Kentrell Brothers if he's there.

I'm a big Thomas fan so that's the only disagreement I have there. But do you really think brothers will be there in the 3rd? He's one of my favorite players in this class

Big Spriggs and Shepard fan here.

I honestly do, he's a very disciplined player, sure tackler and I love his coverage skills, but he doesn't have a stratospheric ceiling, lacks instinct and probably measurables. He would be perfect for us as a complement for CJ who gets toasted in coverage, but for other teams, he's not an ILB whom you can build a defense around. To me he's going in the first half of the 3rd. I would be surprised if a team takes him in the 2nd.

Btw Matakevich in the end of the 4th has to be my favourite ILB of this class, so if Brothers isn't there I'd be all in for him.

I like brothers because he is very good in coverage and he Does it without super impressive speed. He's built like a thumper, plays like a thumper, but holds his own in coverage. I think him and Mosley at ilb would be a great tandem as long as we have pass rush.

Though I'm not sure I understand the word "thumper", I fully agree with what you said. I also think many people underestimate how badly we need a good cover ILB. The secondary was doing good in the later part of the season, it's guys like Barnidge or Eifert that killed us, and CJ can't cover them.

I'd be very satisfied with this draft. Thomas isn't my favorite receiver but hey he's still got alot of potential and as long as we address the position along with pass rusher and cb I'm happy, which you did very nicely. Spence-apple- thomas- yannick- Joseph and jones? Shhhhhhiiii sign me up.

I don't know much about Kaufusi but The Ravens do have one of the better defensive line coach in the league in Clarence Brooks and they added  Joe Cullen whom has a solid resume with coaching defensive linemen as well.  It's all about upside in the draft so if The Ravens had interest  Kaufusi  then they should have faith that he would be good hands  with their coaching staff.

Going by the outline in your draft, here is what I would like drafted.

1st (15) Treadwell WR
2nd (36) Spriggs OT
2nd (43) Apple/Fuller CB
3rd (70) Matakevich ILB
3rd (76)  D. Jones OLB
4th (101) Trelola OG
4th (107) CJ Prosise RB/WR
4th comp H. Miller/Murray CB
4th comp Ngakoue OLB
5th comp Zettel DE

6th (164) Maddy DT

I think it would be highly unlikely the Rams would give up four draft picks this year 1st 2nd 3rd and 4th.  I am hoping Goff is on board and get 1st and both 2nds.

If the Rams were prepared to trade those four picks would rather take a 1st 2nd and 3rd, converting the 4th to a future 3rd next year, keep the broncos pick  which we could again trade for future picks.  For the Rams 4th this year we would net Rams 3rd next and get a 4th and 5th for the broncos one.

The Pick of Prosise was bpa at that point and would rather the extra picks next year as outlined
