Introducing myself with a mock

20 posts in this topic

First post on this forum, so I guessed I should make a mock so you guys could learn to know me and what I think. Btw I'm french, supposedly good in english but don't hesitate if you feel the need to correct me!

So here goes:

1) Laquon Treadwell, WR

To be honest, there isn't any prospect in the first round that I absolutly want more than any other. My favourite is Buckner, but I trust our coaching staff to developp Davis, Guy and Urban. And the idea of providing Flacco its first real WR1 excites me. Plus it's a matchup made in heaven for a Trestman offense. He's a safe pick, a reliable target and would make our recieving corps scary. Just remembering that 5 months ago we were supposed to have the weakest WR corpse in the league, and it's kinda funny...

2) Darian Thompson, FS

For all the talk about how bad the secondary was, it was just one good FS away from being really good, especially at the end of the season. I think Lewis and Webb will be cut, and Brooks being injury prone, bringing Thompson makes sense. He's the very definition of ballhawk, has an insane football IQ, is NFL ready and imo a future star at the position. He just has it all, and is widely considered the best FS in this draft (to me he's on par with Ramsey as a pure FS).

3) Joe Schobert, OLB

Physically, he's basically Doom 2.0, but his ability to drop into coverage is really interesting for us, and he's one of my favorites at the position. Fast, smart, and hustling on every single second of every single play. Just watch the Iowa match, it's incredible how much hustle this guy displays. The fact that he will learn with Doom is also perfect for him, and for us.

4) Joe Dahl, OT

Needed help in the OL, I'm a horrible judge for that kind of position so I'll trust the common thought on him, if he can be a fit with Castillo I'm all in.

4) Tyler Matakevich, ILB

It is time we find a replacement for Daryl. As they said for Borland: "He's too small. He's too slow. I don't care, he can play football.". This describes Matakevich quite well. He doesn't have the physical tools, but an insane work ethic, a study rat, and a contagious agressivity. He can be a great compliment for CJ.

4) Cyrus Jones, CB

A Bama guy, that can play CB and PR, has a chip on his shoulder... Have fun taking him Ozzie.

I'll stop here, not much sense going futher... Tell me what you think!

Welcome! Second round is a reach although I like Thompson, and I think a lot of players will bypass tread on Ozzie's board, that one kinda depends on who's available there.

I like Joe schobert a lot but I feel like he's more an early 4th guy. Good choice of players but I feel like a lot of them may lack value as a lot of these guys are at least a half round ahead of where they should be

I like quite a few of these guys but agree with Flex - almost everybody, including Treadwell, is going too early.

I'm sure our FO figures they have their young WR1 in Perriman (incidentally, I agree), so I don't see us drafting WR early this year.

The reach part is very true, I just felt that Treadwell and Thompson are just what we need in both offense and defense, and I don't see us getting them one round later. Thompson has been mocked as a first rounder in some mocks, and as I said, I think Tread is the one who brings us the most in the 1st round. Plus, Thompson raised his stock in the Senior Bowl. Both, to me, are safe picks with immediate impact.

Btw I assume Ramsey will be gone by then, but if he is there, to me it's a no-brainer. In that case, Boyd or Scooby Wright III in the second are my guys, maybe Spence but imo he won't last until the second.

Also now that I think about it, Schobert in the beginning of the 3rd is definitely a reach. Let's put him in the early 4th and take an OT in the 3rd instead

That's true at the moment..but obviously a lot of these guys may rise up the board if they perform well at the combine..the flip side is they could drop farther too..but expect some fluctuation.

very good mock..a lot of the ones I've seen just seem kind of unrealistic but I don't get that feeling with this one...seems well within possibilities. I don't think Webb will be cut..but if Thompson does well enough we can keep Webb where he belongs..however I think moving Webb to safety may be a wise move..and we still have Elam waiting in the wings who looked to have made huge strides last offseason before he went down..therefore I would probably rather take a corner such as fuller or Apple. Esp in round two. However I do really like Thompson. Welcome to the board though, nice to have you.

I think switching Dahl and Schobert would probably make more sense. Also I'd be really surprised if we cut Webb this year. It sounds like Harbs loves him, still.

This would not hurt my feelings. Watching DT on Saturday he is instinctive and has some range. I have to wonder what the Ravens would do with all the dead beats they have in the crowded secondary?

Webb, Lewis, and Brooks are 2018 free agents while Hill, Davis, & Elam are 2017 free agents. Trawick is a current RFA. So a significant number of our current secondary corps could be gone in two years.

For those wondering about the "Webb being cut" part, I suggest you read this, it may not turn out to be true, but atm we badly need salary cap:

http://www.baltimorebeatdown.com/2016/1/27/10846628/former-raven-brad-jackson-on-lardarius-webbs-shift-to-safety

But somehow, as long as Lewis is not the starter next year I guess it's Ok, hopefully Brooks stays healthy and gets out of the doghouse

The idea with this mock was to be realistic, being french and pessimist and all... I'll certainly do a 2.0 version during the week, based on your remarks.

kind of scary to hear the him say he would rather have Elam back there than Webb, is starting Elam worth the savings?

Sidenote, you shouldnt change your mock draft to fit your critics, its your mock draft.  If you listen to everyones opion and just go off what "we" want then theres not much to discuss.  Different mocks make it more fun

Reach on most rounds in my view, but a solid draft nonetheless. However, I'm unsure the Ravens will go Treadwell if there are great options at tackle and DE/OLB

To me, Elam is a SS, nothing else. Brooks should be the starting FS as of right now.

The critics are basically true, and this mock is just one among many others that I've imagined, so I don't mind changing until I find one that satisfies me ;)

Just wondering who do you have going 1-5?

1) Tunsil

2) Goff

3) Bosa

4) Ramsey

5) Hargreaves

Do I need to explain this part?

Unless Buckner if you consider him to be a DE, there will be no DE/OLB worth a 6th, barring Bosa doesn't screw in the combine like Sizz did. And based on recent history, Ozzie will have to go over my humiliated body to draft a LT in the 1st.

Yeah I wouldn't take anything Brad Jackson says to heart.  I respect his love for Baltimore, but man, he's rough as an analyst.

Yeah Monroe is the guy whether we like it or not

Bienvenue mon ami!!!! I lived in france the earlier parts of my life as well.

I like the mock a lot although im not too familiar with your mid round picks, the only thing with treadwell is if our front office really feels impressed enough by him to have him rated high enough on our board. He has to run at least a sub 4.5 and show a good vertical, but if the draft plays out like you had it i see it being a choice between stanley, alexander, buckner, and treadwell in any order at this point. I think we really need a big contribution from our pick and he will have to be a day one starter, i dont see that from buckner or stanley because buckner will get lost in our rotation with all the guys we have and like you, i really dont want a left tackle, we need playmakers, so it comes down to treadwell and alexander and id be happy with either or, it just depends who perfoms better at the combine.

Oh right, I forgot to thank you all for your greeting, it's really nice of you all!

I'd agree with everything you said, with some nuances. Tread will make the most impact from Day One, I agree. He's certainly the one we benefit the most taking. Also I don't want Stanley because LT in the first almost always end up to be busts. And Buckner will be a 3 down dominant player, which would stop the developpment of Davis and Urban, meaning a 3rd round pick and a 4th round pick go to waste, while our coaches could raise them into very good players.

Aight, here's another version of this mock:

1) Laquon Treadwell: Logic to keep the same guy, Treadwell makes an impact from Day 1 and for the next 10 years here, let's not try to be too creative and take the safe pick.

2) Jason Spriggs: Boom, going OT in the 2nd. Spriggs has to be my favourite OT in this class, had a great week at the Senior Bowl, and fits perfectly to the ZBS. I believe he's the answer.

3) Kentrell Brothers: No pass rusher or CB yet, which some will complain about, but Brothers to me would add much more than depth at CB or OLB.

4) Joe Schobert: Already explained that I loved the guy, and drafting a pass rusher in the 4th isn't really a problem to me (Za'Darius, Pernell, Doom and Kruger have been fine)

4) Cyrus Jones: Bama/Ozzie jokes aside, I like Jones and think he's totally worth a 4th round pick, plus I love players with a chip on their shoulder.

4) Victor Ochi: Another OLB to groom, he's been dominating at the Shrine Game, given time he can be a force in our pass rush.
