At What Point Do You Take The Reigns Off Of Flacco Next Game?

21 posts in this topic

We know our game plan will be run first as to try and not throw Flacco into bad situations
but i feel if we run on first and second and become predictable it will hurt Flacco more in the
long run.
My question is if we get down in the game at what point do you let the man loose and try
to make plays with his arm?
Against the Titans his arm came up big with the throw to Heap down the seam and to Clayton
to set up the game winning FG.
I'd like to see us mix it up since the teams are so familiar with each other .

We have won with the reigns on. If we need to adjust next week, we will. If it ain't broke, don't try to fix it. None of our wins are pretty, the Ravens play Ravens football; the only thing pretty about it is Ray Ray's suit at the press conference afterwords.

I understand what you're saying, but you don't want to put TOO much pressure on the rookie QB. I don't think the run is going to work against the Steelers. Flacco's main goal will be to not make mistakes, just as he has done all post season.

I think we have to take them off. Because our conservative game calling plays right into the Steelers hands and if it wasnt for our defense and a few big plays it would have played into Tenn. hands.

IF (and that's a BIG IF) we get down by a couple of scores, then you can expect to see Flacco throwing it all over the field. Otherwise, we'll stick with what's been working.

i just really like how he looks when he throws and i think its a lot to ask when you only have him throw here and there
qb's need to get into rhythm and we never let him really do that.
i also think we need to be less afraid to try things against better defenses but thats a different argument

Conservative? We throw the ball deep at least 5-6 times a game. Now if you're saying we need to throw the ball more, I disagree with that as well. Even if the ravens aren't successful running the ball, we still need to try to run to keep the defense honest. If we don't, we'll play right into the steelers hand, because if they don't have to worry about the run, they can go all out blitzing the QB, and that's the last thing we want to happen.

you have to think about the steelers D like our own, and what shreads our D is a nice short passing game
i think if you switch things up and use a short passing game in place of running on 1st down it could be successful
what you can do with the passing game is open up a stingy run defense.
basically just do things backwards. why try to beat a defense with what they stop best?

It is time to take the Reigns off and stop playing for FG's cause we will lose against the Steelers. Let Flacco do him and by the player we drafted and i wish people would stop with the Trent Dilfer comparisons cause Trent Dilfer would never win a game like this. Ever since that huge run in the Bengals game when he scored his first TD I knew he would make a difference and this game will show it!!!!!!

Our D is all banged up!

This is the game where the Offense shows how much improved they are but they gotta have the right plays called!!!!

LETS GO RAVENS [/size]

you hit the nail on the head let him air it out early they wont expect it and with the D being banged up (though i think most of them will play this week) this is where we show we do have an offense and a quarterback who can run that offense.

LETS GO RAVENS!!!!

I am sorry 8 passes in the entire first half is conservative.

Definately wasn't like our game vs Tenn. No real injuries. They looked pretty good, couple lucky incidents, but looked good. SD didn't play very well though.

I'm not sure what you're talking about.

The official Vegas line is something like Steelers by six right now, and the game is on Sunday at 6:30.

Pittsburgh had no injured players as San Diego is softer than a cashmere scarf.

I think its nessacary to get Flacco going as early in the game as possiable. Come out like you WANT to win this game, stop running every 1st down and let the boy loose. Hes proven he can step up and make big plays when it matters. I dont want this to be another close nail bitting game, at the same time I dont want the Steelers to blow us out. We know this team too well. Flacco will remain calm and get the job done IF you let him. Mcclain needs to be out early getting carrys, he needs to keep pounding and wear the Steelers D down..(very hard to do i know but not impossiable) after that we need to bring out Rice and Mcgahee and let them loose. Our passing game I think will be the difference maker in this game. We CANNOT play it safe when a spot in Tampa is on the line.

well said, if we play the same conservative offense style against the steelers, like we did with the titans, we will not have a great offensive game, we need to throw a little more than 8 times in the first half, just not too much.

He can do it, i believe we need to attack them where they arn't game planning, especially when i don't think we are healthy enough to play that physical game we usually do. Catch them off gaurd and throw to who is healthy plus mason lol. If we can do that there offense is nothing but a bad college teams with a fat quarterback who thinks he's an athlete lol i'm smack talking my bad.

It's going to be hard but if we can get points on the board and make it a 2 possesion game by the 4th quarter we should be fine.

Exactly! Come out swinging and if we get up by two scores get conservative. We can't be playing it safe and by the numbers crap...We need points early and often.

But you can't be too predictable, which we were against the Titans. If they would actually throw on first down every now and then, it would soften up the defense when they do run on first down. I also wish people would shut up with this "rookie" crap. He's an NFL quarterback, and if you can't trust him to throw, then he shouldn't be on the field. The passing game works. It worked well against the Titans. Only throwing 8 times the entire first half is not enough. I believe the offense can put up way more points than they have been.
