Revis wasn't coming off an ACL tear, that was the year prior when he signed with the bucs.

What I meant with the option is that. The pats decided to decline it so why should they get rewarded?

Yes, a year with the Bucs where he wasn't anything special, hence why he settles for a one year deal.

They should get rewarded for the same reason we should get rewarded for not resigning Michael Oher, a guy we simply didn't want to resign and somebody overpaid.

We get comp picks all the time for essentially not resigning mediocre or bad players...what's fair about that?

Honestly, in reference to what the Patriots did with Revis, if Ozzie did it we'd laud him for it and call him a genius. It's an unfair double standard to throw eggs at the Patriots and show sour grapes, which is what this sounds like, whether or not it is [sour grapes].

I think we even did this very thing ourselves with McClain (traded for a pick) & especially Redding, whose career rejuvenated here and ended up as a comp pick. We didn't develop him at all but he was a comp for us

McClain was cut by the raiders and we picked him up for free. Then the Cowboys traded for him. That's if we're talking about the same McClain lol

If Ozzie does it, I for one wouldn't necessarily laud it but I probably wouldn't complain as much lol

Accolades factor in as well.  Pro Bowls, All Pro, helping your team to the playoffs, etc.

I'm just not sure if this will make a difference because of how watered down the Pro Bowl is nowadays.  So many guys miss because of the Super Bowl and "injuries" that some mid tier players are now finding their way in.

I don't know if pro bowl alternates are considered, but I'm sure the Ravens will make a case for a comp pick for him.

FWIW, the Patriots have used this option tactic before to get Comp picks.

And, FWIW, the contract signed by Chris Canty last spring contains the exact same type of option, so if the Ravens "release" him (i.e. decline the option) in March and he signs elsewhere, the Ravens would be eligible for a Comp pick (depending on the size of his contract, of course).

Yeah, we do it as well. We're pretty top-notch with these comp picks. I think Ozzie is in on the formula myself, lol, like having Colonel Sander's secret recipe or the Big Mac's secret sauce.
