2016: Year of the Playstation

14 posts in this topic

Fresh off a strong Christmas season which brought the number of sold Playstation 4 consoles to over 35 million , Sony released a short video heralding their upcoming exclusives* for 2016. http://www.gamespot.com/articles/sony-lists-20-ps4-exclusives-set-for-2016-release/1100-6433490/

Here are a few of the games that I'm most looking forward to.

*Some of these games are console exclusives that will be released on PC; a few others will eventually go to the other consoles.

Uncharted 4: A Thief's End will be the final step of the 8 year journey of Sony's deservedly popular Uncharted series. On April 26th, fans will meet Nathan Drake's brother and take part in an adventure that appears to be set in Africa.

After delays too numerous to recount, The Last Guardian is slated to be released sometime this year. The successor of the Ps2 games Ico and Shadow of the Colossus has been in development for nearly 10 years and has had many release dates which were later cancelled. If Sony's assurances about this game's existence can be believed, The Last Guardian will feature a young boy who seeks to escape from a fortress with the help of a baby griffin.

In Horizon: Zero Dawn players will discover a lush, green post-apocalyptic world that has become populated with giant mechanical beasts. The heroine of this story uses a bow and arrow to fight them and reveal the mystery of what caused the downfall of the ancient civilizations.

WiLD takes place 1000 years ago and features a shaman protagonist who can control animals and commune with gods.

Detroit: Become Human is made by the developers of Heavy Rain and Beyond Two Souls. This story takes place in a futuristic version of Michigan and the protagonist is a female android who desires to change the future of our world. Some of you may be familiar with a short video from 2012 called Kara. Detroit: Become Human is her story.

Start making those birthday and Christmas lists now because this year we will also see:

Gran Turismo Sport

Gravity Rush 2

Ratchet and Clank

Dreams

Street Fighter 5

Firewatch

Shadow of the Beast

Nier Automata

Alienation

Paragon

The Witness

No Man's Sky

So, which 2016 Ps4 games are you excited about?

Uncharted and Horizon look insane. As a huge shadow of the colossus fan I'm definitely looking forward to TLG. Firewatch looks really cool; love the art style and the concept seems cool for a first person game. Gravity Rush looks interesting so I'll probably pick that up next month.

Final Fantasy 15 should be coming out around the Holiday season

I completely forgot about that one. If I recall correctly, that was supposed to be one of the big Ps3 games originally (and it was announced around the same time as The Last Guardian).

Honestly, I'm taking a wait and see approach with FFXV. I can't say I'm excited about it when I'm not sure I really believe it exists.

That said, it's been a long time since I played an FF game. They made some of my old favorites back in the day; it would be nice to play another good one.

Firewatch looks like it might be a game that I'll check out in a few years when it's super cheap. It's intriguing, but I don't think I'll rush out and get it right away.

I have never purchased a ps4 game brand new (I'm not even sure I did with the ps3), but I have been waiting so long for TLG that I might even drop 60 to get it when it's released.

Oh, this one looks terrible and I refuse to buy it. The only reason I'm excited is because it means Kingdom Hearts 3 and then FF7 will be coming soon.

I was ecstatic to hear they're going to remake VII, but now they're talking about changing a lot of things and giving it episodic releases. What the heck is that mess? They expect me to pay 60 dollars 5 separate times or something?

And don't try telling me the game is too big for one disc. I got Uncharted 1-3 on one disc.

My FF13 game is on three discs, but I bought it all at once, so I know they can sell it as "one" game.

The changes are more that they're making it 3-D and more realistic, as opposed to the previous mostly flat graphics that were... well, lacking compared to what you'd want to see on PS4.

Thought I'd post this. Arkham Knight is $15 right now at Best Buy. Don't know how long it will last.

I've heard good things about that series.

You recommend it?

Excellent series. Only one I haven't played was origins, but loved the rest.

They're probably going to bloat every section of the game. Guarantee the entire first game takes place in Midgar.

Thanks for the heads up about the sale.

I wouldn't be shocked if that happens; disappointed, but not shocked. Oh well, if FFvs13/XV is anything to go by, it will probably be two or three years before they give us a release date and years after that before it ever comes out.

I have more optimism for The Last Guardian.

I have a feeling it'll be out sooner than you think. Square is pretty much outsourcing the development to another Japanese dev while they work on 15 and KH3.
