[News] Byrne Identity: We All Felt Guilt About Ted Marchibroda

13 posts in this topic

He was the coach the first time I saw the Colts as a boy and, of course, the first of the Ravens. He will always have a special place in my Baltimore heart!

Great quote: If I said "so and so is an idiot," Ted would smile and say: "He doesn't know what he doesn't know." I wish more people would start to realize this simple fact and free others from their own ignorance.

Kevin, I'm glad I'm not one of your 'friends'. Working behind the scenes to replace your 'friend'? With 'friends' like you he deserved no enemies. Ray Rice was another of your 'friends' wasn't he? I'm sure you'd counter by saying it's a tough business and you were just doing your job.....

Marchibroda was a "nice guy coach" who was gracious, gentle and all that stuff. Both Ewbank and Shula weren't gentle nor nice when I saw them coach the Colts. They were tough as nails and would go for your jugular. Marchibroda wasn't those guys and will never enter the Coaches NFL Hall of Fame.

Kevin, I always enjoy reading your articles but I wish I hadn't read this one. You've dropped a few pegs in my opinion. While you were talking behind his back in those secret meetings did you list any of the attributes you did here in this article? I doubt it. Weasel!

For some reason, when he was the coach of the Baltimore Colts, I always had the impression that he was just too nice to be a head coach in the NFL and thought that it may have hurt our team because of it, so I have to be honest and admit I was not a big fan of his hiring by the Ravens. Of course, that was just my opinion and I may have been wrong in thinking that.

I think the hiring of Marchibroda was the thing that "sealed the deal," so to speak, that this was a real BALTIMORE NFL team. It was like the final piece of the puzzle. I'm glad they did it.

Kevin sees himself as being on one side of the Ravens (executives) and everyone else (incl Marchibroda) on the other side. He did nothing wrong here, and he already said he felt badly about having to duck out behind Marchibroda's back. Marchibroda wasn't stupid, but he knew he was replaceable and if he did a better job, none of this would've happened in the first place. If I were Harbaugh though, I'd be careful about Byrnes though because what happened to Marchibroda can also happen to him!
