[News] Late For Work 1/21: Is Joe Flacco Open To A Contract Restructure? 'Come On, I Want To Win'

67 posts in this topic

Going after Josh Gordon wouldnt be too bad if you think about it. The contract would be cheap, John is great with strong personalities, and honestly the idea of Josh Gordon, Perrimen, SSS, and Aiken all on one field would make some serious difference.

Talk is cheap until Joe's contract is renegotiated then I will say what a guy. Joe Linta or the Ravens haven't said a word about any talks, he's just saying what the fans want to hear.

I really want this case to be different due to it ultimately being more beneficial to him in the long run too. But after Boldin and Kubiak's promises I can't trust talk either. And I definetely don't trust Linta but this is news, and whether or not the validity is substantial, this piece of news is definetely encouraging.

Naturally Joe will restructure his contract. I believe that when it is your starting QB and both sides want to stay the player always wins big. Correct me if I'm wrong but while fans were shouting Brady and Rothlisbergers name as team first guys they actually got a huge immediate cash injection as well as a longer contract for more money. Again I may be wrong but I think they will be getting pay checks for years after they retire. Can anyone confirm?

http://www.spotrac.com/nfl/new-england-patriots/tom-brady/

Tom Brady will retire after 2017 season and will be completely off the Patriots books.  He signed a 3 year/27M extension with 18M bonus and 8M salary in his pocket 1st year, then 9M salary in 2016 and 10M salary in 2017. Well below what people consider "fair market value"

http://www.spotrac.com/nfl/pittsburgh-steelers/ben-roethlisberger/

This on the other hand, seems like he has to stay on their roster through 2017 which may be a tall task for a guy that hangs onto the ball and takes as many stupid sacks as he does.  His cap hits carry on through 2019 season unless accelerated earlier via trade/cut/retirement.

I'm expecting us to sign Joe to a Roethlisberger type deal, Joe Linta would laugh Oz out of the room if he even mentioned a Brady type deal...

I'd go with a stinky ugly annoying touchy feely guy for our trainer, that way nobody wants to be injured and have to put up with him  lol

No Bs. That's funny. We could at least use him to run them out the lunchroom and straight to training room. Double motivation never hurts. lol

They'd be like AAAAhhhhh thats more like it ! Where'd he grab you this time Camp ? Monroe, " I know he grabbed my man boob last time", " I didn't get my chocolate milk, "That son of ….". lol

Don't worry about the negs Cushrinda there bound to happen. Independent thinking sometimes falls on deaf ears. I bet when he comes back and (lights) it up they'll be saying. Damnit why didn't we take a shot @ him……lol

The Ravens' Brass should take into consideration that Joe excels with good protection. Any money Joe sacrifices for the "team" should directly be spent on his behalf. We won a Super Bowl with our best O line in recent years. All Joe Flacco did was return the favor by playing as good as a great Hall of Famer...Joe Montana

Just as an FYI......just because a player restructures a contract, doesn't necessarily mean he "sacrifices" any money. In fact, it usually means just the opposite.

if we can work out a deal where he is getting the new league average for starting Qbs of $20 million, the saved $8 million could at least pay to franchise KO and pay a few rookie contracts. I think Joe realizes he wants to win more than anything so I see a deal being done by summer.

Yanda BTW will also be a first ballot HOF one day too if he continues on this path of greatness!

I wouldn't say Harbs is good with strong personalities... they always seem to get cut even if we need them and it's a cheap contract (pollard as an example)

Although that would be a hell of a good line up, I give you that

I think the difference between Josh and Pollard is Josh is being lead astray by so called friends and probably has seen the light after seeing them pockets getting emptier and the same fanfare for him so called friends is waning because of it. And Pollard probably challenged Harb's authority outwardly. Which we all know doing that to a coach won't end well. I could be wrong of course but it's a gut feeling. I always root for the underdog, well not always, mostly. Ray and Reed teamed up and claimed the team before Haugbaugh got there so he inherited them. Pollard was an acquisition with no political clout, thus expendable. Just a hunch. I could be wrong but I doubt it.

Pollard, and Anquan are probably the best examples of when John couldn't manage a player and had to let them go eventually. In contrast, if you look at Jimmy Smith and Ngata when they came out of college, they had concerns about off the field issues and consistency, respectfully. Harbs was able to give great value and Jimmy is still on the team so I would hope he can do the same with Josh, I cannot remember the first time we had a solid #1.

Where's this coming from? I clearly remember Brady saying he plans to play well into his 40's, not long ago...

Basically, there were three problems with Pollard:

1.) He was reporterd to be a locker room bomb, a constant distraction.

2.) He was a flag magnet. He had great tackles and was a commanding presence in the backfield - but he drew a ton of penalties and gave lots and lots of second chances to the opponents.

I think Ihedigbo replaced him just fine. He wasn't as good as Pollard at his best - but he drew much fewer flags.

josh gordon is not worth a sniff. he will get suspended again

To know if he is worth a sniff he needs to be a free agent. He is under contract with the Brownies. Of him getting suspended, he is with the Browns so won't bet against it.

Joe has to do more than want to win, because it doesn't show in his actions as far leadership! I'm tired of the same old lines "we'll get them next time, or I need more time, or we need more weapons at the WR position" because that stuff is getting old! The Ravens beat the hottest team so they say with backups on Offense and the Defense fed off it and everyone played "FLAWLESS" football! Some people didn't like that victory over the squeelers because it showed the Ravens can win w/o Joe! I'm sorry but Joe has to step his game up in my book and stop making excuses!

In reference to his final year here when he couldnt help bring him back under salary. I know that is more of a agent deal but your like of the coach and area is a big part of that decision as well.

1. Unless I was in the locker room I would never say that about anyone.

2. If it was not for Pollard I seriously feel Ravens would have not won that AFC game. It was still in the balance until his hit on the Running back.

3. Where is Ihedigbo now? He played one year 2013 and left.

Agreed and Pollard wasn't a good comparison to Gordon (off field issues) so guess I'd just say I would be very surprised if the Ravens went after Gordon

I know Brady lost quite a bit of cash giving the Pats a home town deal. Manning lost 4 million in Denver. So Joe will make over 28 mil this season by doing the same. Great. You got my vote partner. -1

Boom! This is what we like to hear! Joe cool knows what needs to be done. And he sees no way he won't be ready to go at the start of the year. Music to my ears.

7 million would go a long way just saying! lolz.

Josh Gordon is arguably a top 5 talent receiver. I think he was set up to fail the alcohol test that he mysteriously had  to take after the season was over when he got off the plane in Vegas with teammates. I'll take him anyday over any receivers the ravens have on the roster. He hasn't done anything that other football players haven't done, he just got caught doing it.

I'm not doubting your football knowledge but we are talking about Joe Flacco and the Baltimore Ravens here so I think a con job is out of the question making your post irrelevant. IMO

Spoken like a true Winner Joe...Hope we get the right guys in Place on the O Line and WR's for him to succeed... I know it probably won't happen, but I hope Ray Rice gets picked up next season, He looks fit, and ready to play. Every week when I see Greg Hardy playing makes it tough to see Ray sitting.

When he signed his contract Joe even said himself it was more of a three year deal. And he would restructure when the time came. Flacco is keeping his word. I never expected less. I was never worried about this being a problem.

Here's why signing Josh Gordon is kinda enticing. He is definitely a top 10 WR in the NFL talent wise and we definitely lack that. Let's just say he's reinstated and we sign him to a league minimum. I am sure he could help us win a few games before he gets suspended again. We could start 4-0 before he's dumb @$$ does something stupid. lol

Joe's making $18M this season, not $28M.

Cap number and what the player actually makes are rarely the same thing.

Plus you are also comparing Joe to two QBs at the end of their careers who already has several large, market value contracts. I can promise you neither of these guys were taking discounts at 30.
