Flacco the team player. Takes 3 year extension, lowers cap hit.

I always said less money but guaranteed money is the way for franchise QBs. If an elite QB is hurt that extra money anyways  the team will not be able to bring in another expensive QB regardless to replace him. May as well pay him a little less but guarantee the money so that it allows for an extra impact player or 2 to surround the franchise QB. Only way the team is competing for a championship is if it struck gold in mid rounds on a young QB. Like Aaron Murray and Mettenberger who in my opinion could be franchise QBs. Only way ravens can be competitive in free agency is extending Joe Cool and cutting some players including aging or injured Home favorites like webb pitta, Daryl and Forsett.

This doesn't make sense, there aren't a lot of expensive backup QB in the leagues waiting for a chance to replace a starting QB.

We had very similar cap issues last year and the FO added two additional QBs after Joe went down.

I still will not understand the Schaub signing for the life of me, regaurdless of it being anything to do with Kubiak's system knowledge

Hey he was .500 for us when called to duty.  Can't be too mad at him.

At least he kept his pick 6 streak alive.  Not mad at him but the money he got was head scratching to me.

Same, didn't like it when it happened.

Mallett and Clausen can duel it out for backup and be cheaper

Mallett is going to push Joe Cool for the starting job.

Maybe he meant push him down a flight of stairs so he could start.

You can bet Mallet is not here only to be a backup. He has his sights on the starting job!! You heard him say he is not Joe when it was mentioned Joe Cool struggles against cincy. That suggests he is confident he could play better!!  If he can play as well as joe at a far cheaper cost they how can anybody argue against it?? Just making sure everybody is awake lol

But Mallett DID struggle against Cincinatti...and many other teams in his career.

Definitely do agree that some people do need to wake up...

No that means, he's not Joe.  So you shouldn't compare how Joe performs to how he performs.

was he hurt all season? dude almost threw about as many Picks as TD's and that was when SSR was healthy.  I love Flacco but really question him mentally after how bad this last year was. he threw as many picks in 9 games as he did the year before... i know the OL factors in but he was sacked 40 times in a season and threw 12 INTs Heck in 2015 he was on track to being sacked the 2nd least amount that he ever has. His judgement was way of out of wack in 2015. Hec

So what are you saying?? Would you sit Joe Cool down if he struggles in favor of Mallett?? What do you think of Mallett?? If Mallett played lights out would there then be a controversy??

If Mallett played lights out he would not be a back up.

and you are convinced mallet did better?

otherwise i fail to see how mallet is supposed to challenge flacco.

last season was horrible for mallet TBH.

I don't get why people think because we beat the Steelers with Mallet, he deserves to be our starter.  Mallet couldn't even beat out the guys in Houston, yet hes better than Joe? right.  Mallet is a backup for a reason.  I really thought people let this go, but hey, its the offseason....

well it keeps the place interesting lol

unless flacco plays on 1 leg i dont see mallet challenging him and even then i have to wonder if mallet has what it takes to challenge a 1 legged flacco.

after all he could not even handle trying to beat out hoyer and yates....

This is the only argument anyone should need to put this to bed.  He is a viable backup, but hes not winning a starting job

I would prefer to trade for Aaron Murray to be backup than Mallett!! He could beat out win the job on a QB needy team. Joe Cool has as much arm talent as any QB in the league!! He throws a tight pinpoint spiral and a great deep throw. Fell into a couple bad habits but he will clean it up and have a big season in my opinion.Especially if ravens add a weapon or 2 and Campanaro and Perriman play in most of the games. And if tavens keep the dominant online in tact along with adding weapons that Joe Cool trusts he will throw for over 4000 yards and could approach 40 TDs. He is of Bradys mindset. He is going to put the throw on the receiver and Joe wants to trust the receiver.

Then what do we do with Mallet? He is aviable back up, no reason to trade for another one.  If Mallet is as good as some of the fans on here think he is, then we shouldn't have a problem trading him...ie Rams, Browns, eagles, 9ers, Bills, etc.  Hes a back up.  By your standards your saying TJ Yates and Hoyer would be starters as well...

I know a restructure is very likely but saw this quote from Ozzie where he said he can be "very active" in FA even if Joe's contract doesn't get restructured.

Ozzie must have something up his sleeve if he's saying that.

"We are in a position that we can be very active in free agency without having to get something done with Joe," Newsome said Wednesday during his podium session at the combine.

Makes me think of last year when we traded Ngata.  You think there are any possible trades hes thinking of....

Our exercising the only amount of leverage he has... which isn't much. For the Ravens to even dabble in the opening week of FA, they need to make some cap space. The biggest consumer is Joe Flacco.
