Not really...

1. His two year extension he signed is for $41M in new money...a $20.5M average. Hardly a massive paycut.

2. He got a $28M signing bonus, of which he will make $29M in 2016. He will, however, only make $1M in 2017.

3. The Pats wisely slashed his base salary to $1M in 2016, so if he's suspended, he will only lose $250K. Had the suspension been upheld last season, he would have lost $2M.

Pretty sure he's saying the same thing. He's saying the media is wrong for portraying it the way they do.

Well, the guy is literally playing for $1M in 2017...

Love how you're negged for stating the truth about Brady.  Flacco gets a $40M signing bonus and he's a hero and here Brady routinely actually takes less and its overlooked or laughed at.

Some people here forgot about NE quarterback's restructure (just after Flacco's first big deal) in which he also helped the team with cap space and in turn got $60M up front. He is 39 - near $30M for 2 years is really cool at that age.

What's the difference between $60M in new money for a three year extension and $40M in new money for a two-year extension?

Yeah, he didn't get that much though. He did a restructure that helped cap space and got a (then) fully guaranteed contract, although that eventually became guaranteed for injury only.

Brady's pay the last five years:

2011: $9.75M

2012: $12M

2013: $13M

2014: $19M

2015: $13M

That's $66.75M over five years, an average of $13.35M/year during that span.

He will make $30M in the next two years, and potentially $60M over the next four.
