Myles Jack - LB (merged)

278 posts in this topic

he didn't even try to tackle him, that was the problem. If you go shoulder to shoulder with a big guy, most likely you will lose. If he bulks up he will lose what makes him great in coverage, his quickness. Him dropping back into coverage with Moseley up front would be pretty damn good

Myles is at 245 according to ESPN. Bigger than CJ who's at 235 via ESPN. CJ can pull that off, and Myles is bigger weight wise. Not exactly small.

Size was not his issue there. It was the way he approached it. But as a true freshman I was okay with that

Upon looking at Jack again I see a number of things; his pass coverage is REALLY great which is something we REALLY need and his tackling is solid, that's when the good things end; he's a undersized player in the sense that he struggles to get off blocks and may not be big enough to overpower players the way we think MLB'ers should. If he can recover from his injury, gain about 10 pounds of muscle and refine his technique I'd like him at #6.

Just as long as he's done getting cracked by QB's:

^THATS WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU'RE SMALL.

haha I remember that play. Logan Thomas is a big boy though so a freshman Jack get's a pass in my book. Jack was probably not even a full 220 at that time.

I think Jack is definitely a top 10 pick and I wouldn't hate it if we drafted him, but I don't see him being BPA at 6.

Man, just realizing that UCLA is like a LB factory

Barr, Kendricks, and Jack the past 3 years is pretty damn good.

Lets say he fully recovers to his previous level, do you think his coverage ability translates to the next level? because if it does then he's worth the 6th overall pick.

The thing with Jack is he's a luxury pick for us, and picking that high has to be for a position of extreme value. I don't think that picking a second MLB with the 6th overall pick is good value

He can do a lot of things for us. We need athleticism as far as linebackers go and having a good coverage linebacker can boost a defense significantly, if we move back for him I would be more than fine with it. Mosley/Jack can be like Willis/Bowman.

I agree with that. We'd have the best tandem in the league until we have to resign one of them. I only see him as a move back candidate though

I don't really see him as our guy at no.6 but hes a great trade back candidate, but I do like Jaylon Smith a bit better though.

He would still be a difference maker on that side of the ball this year, then when Smith retires next year boom, hes groomed and ready and Mosley and Jack are a wrecking crew

Jack's a good option at #6. He's one of the best athletes in the class and would be a major asset for our defense. I want playmakers on defense bottomline.

Haven't seen much myles jack but our biggest issue in defense seemed to be rushing the passer, and defending the middle of field..

If jack can help with the later, and there is no one on the board to help with the former, I'm all for it.

I think there is a better chance of Bosa falling out of the top 7 than Myles Jack falling to us in the 2nd round I think.

I agree. No way he makes it out of the top 20. I don't expect him to be there, but I'd take him if he was.

Next year we got Hollins. Good pass rusher but that's it. Tweener. Wears 58. Sound familiar?

;)

After that not much. Kenny Young is freaking terrible.

I've made my opinion known on Jack. Love him. He may not be a pass rusher, but holy crap he can do so much for the defense.

Defend screens? Does that well. Pass coverage? Does that at an elite level. Great instincts? Has them. Good vs run? Yes.

He lacks pass rushing experience but we're probably not going to ask him to do that, besides, CJ is a very good blitzer.

I'll take Jack over Jaylon(after watching more tape), any day of the week.

He's one of the safer picks in the draft with bonafida super star potential,

I think after watching more tape on Myles Jack and reading more scouting reports on him, folks here are warming up to him. In an ideal world we trade back to 11 to 15, pick up a first round pick next year, exchange their 2nd round pick for our 3rd this year, and then have the opportunity to pick up Myles! Wow that would instantly become a dream draft for me!

I'd certainly be cool with that.

If we're picking a linebacker, then I want Jaylon Smith. I really like him a lot, he reminds me of Jamie Collins. He's really good in coverage and just goes after ball carriers. I don't think he's a full time OLB but he can play both OLB/ILB. I think he's so versatile and would be a great fit in a hybrid scheme such as ours. There's plays out there where he covers slot receivers, dude is a beast. Such a shame he had that injury but I would love him as a trade back target, it seem like an Ozzie move honestly.

3-4 OLB or 4-3 OLB?

I think he's easily a 4-3 OLB, but he has loads of potential as a 3-4 OLB, as of now I definitely wouldn't say that's where he best fits at, but he's fast off the edge and shows good pass rush. There is a clip where Jaylon Smith practiced at DE out of a 3-point stance and swimmed past Ronnie Stanley. I can't find it at the moment, though it is just a practice, it just shows you that he has potential as a pass rusher. I personally think he could play both OLB/ILB for us. I don't see him as a full time OLB but I can see him taking snaps there on early downs.

I gotta admit that's interesting and this is the first I've heard of this but that doesn't mean it's not real. If you find it please share. I'd like to see more of this. He has the height for it, but he'll need to add a lot of weight to do it. That said, he's a good pass rusher so maybe.

If Jaylon Smith falls out of the first round (which I would assume is solely due to his medical because his tape is good), then there is 0 chance Ozzie will take him at the top of the 2nd.

Yeah, hopefully I can find it. I think pass rushing is an underrated skill set of his. If he can bulk up he can probably be our OLB for the future. He is just so talented honestly. He can do it all. I hope he can bulk up without losing the speed, the guy is just so natural in coverage.
