Does Daryl Smith's release mean that Myles Jack becomes a more likely target for us on draft day?

I Would say so.

I would like to preface what I am about to say with I would not be disappointed if we drafted Jack, from the only interview I saw him do he seems like a great guy and some who could become a leader on this team, but I am concerned with a few things:

1. The knee- I know it was not an ACL, but we have seen what happens to first round picks with knee injures, doesn't mean he won't be all fine by the start of the season it is just a worrisome thing.

2. Tackling and lack of tackling numbers- People have said he is an aggressive tackler and I agree, but I don't think he tackles well, call me crazy and if you can prove me wrong I will admit it, but many of his tackles are either gang tackles and he is coming in late to finish it off or tackling with his entire body instead of wrapping up or he grabs the top of the shoulder pads and spins him around until he falls. Also he averaged I think 50 tackles a year that seems low as a MLB unless I am missing something, could be he is in coverage and doesn't have as many opportunities.

3. He is so versatile and people have called him a chess piece that I think that you would want a "grand master" to get the most out of him and I don't think that Pees has the creativity to get the very best out of him. This is obliviously not something that should stop us from taking him, but just another concern I have.

I also think the draft is going to go Tunsil, Wentz, Ramsey, Bosa, Jack so I don't see us getting a chance to draft him, but you never know.

I agree with you completely...and I will also pre-face by saying I think he is a top ten talent but he would not be in my top 6 for us. I think as a prospect he is a scouts wet dream

The tackling is an issue and I see the same thing. What bothers me more though is how he takes on blocks. Again he is beyond aggressive here and he willingly lowers a shoulder at full speed and can hold his ground but that in most cases is not the best technique. He struggles to truly stack and shed and I am not sure he has this ability in the way he currently plays. In the NFL with OL who know good angles and shades I think they will easily handle him in the box. Plus I think runners like Leveon Bell who let his OL set up blocks will expose his tendency to shoot up field and run too aggressively into blockers.

Also would agree his versatility is a thing of beauty but in our system I am not sure how much we would get to see that. I would further say in our division I do not see him as a great fit for what we play against. You could argue we need a LB to cover Duke Johnson, Bell and Gio who all come out of the backfield and split wide...and I agree here..but in terms of of each teams capability to just pound the ball knowing that is and could be a weakness he may be put in a bad spot. Put him in a division like the NFC East or South and I think he will be one of the best LBers in the NFL..in our division and on our team I actually think he has a higher chance of being in a position like Arthur Brown.

Arthur Brown is not Myles Jack. Arthur Brown was a speedy undersized 43OLB who had questions about smarts and instincts and passion for the game, 3 things that have reared its ugly head, Myles Jack is regular sized and has the speed of Brown but 20x the ability in all facets, Brown couldn't play cb or safety at a college level let alone at an NFL level

Looks like Myles Jack will be joining CJ Mosley to watch the secondary get burned all year...

never attempted to make the direct comparison as a prospect of Arthur Brown to Jack...was just trying to say given our defence and division he may be in a similar position where he may struggle with what will be asked from him--should have made that more clear. I am hesitant on us for our #6 pick...If I was a Cowboys fan and had Rod Marinelli in my back pocket I would take him though

I hope we get Jack, but Ive got a feeling Dallas is going to grab him. They said they weren't going QB so I think they go with Ramsey or Jack. Hope I'm wrong.

I think Jack would be fine in our division since we have Williams and Mosley in the middle. Regardless of who the second ILB is, teams won't be able to run up the middle against us that often. Pees not using him right is a legit concern though. If Pees uses him as a standard ILB just to cover the middle of the field, it'll be a waste. He's the guy that can switch to safety on the fly and play nickleback, not someone you just keep in the box. Pees would definitely have to get creative.

However, given Pees' age, it's likely Jack would be on the team a good bit longer than Pees.

Jack would be fine in our division because he would be fine in any division.

He is a talent that doesn't need his hand held, he will be a special player.
