[News] Cornerback Shareece Wright Wants Long-Term Stay In Baltimore

52 posts in this topic

I think everyone wanted him outta here when we played SF, but after that he was pretty solid on defense.

One thing I really like about Wright was his ability to make open field tackles. Our DBs have struggled

the past few seasons when it comes to tackling, so it was nice to see him make a lot of open field tackles.

He's a keeper in my book.

1 interception in six years, good luck with that sale.

Won't be tough, considering teams have no issue signing corners who don't pick off passes.

Not exactly a requirement these days...

But he didn't get hurt (that I can remember) and although we played lesser opponents in the second have of the season, he did ok. Sad that I'm more focused on players not getting hurt but last 2 years have brought me to that point. A lot depends on the draft but if we can get a team oriented deal with him, I'd be fine with that

"He allowed just 124 passing yards and one touchdown in the next 10 games"

:o That's really impressive for a guy we picked up off the street mid-season.

Whether he is a starter or just a quality depth guy, he should be resigned. No one has any idea who the team will draft and what impact they will have in 2016, so you can't count on a rookie to fill the spot opposite Smith. Wright is a known quantity who improved and played well once he learned the defense.

Allowing 12 yards a game since the 49ers game... I think that is good enough for a sale. Jimmy on the other side was shutdown as well as soon as he got healthy. If we actually got a good slot corner and got pressure on the quarterback our defense could easily be top 5 again. Our defense was great at the end of the season.

I think the coaching change, along with the upcoming draft, will fix our secondary problems. That said, Wright started terrible and finished strong. Earned a spot in the mix.

I think we should draft alxendaer mackensie to start across from jimmy smith and resign s. wright to a 3 year deal and have him play in the slot since we moved webb to saftey and cut k. arrington

I am not against that, I would enjoy putting MacKensie in the slot though... He is smaller and faster than Wright. Wright has good experience to do well against 2nd and 3rd string guys. Jimmy Smith shuts down everyone when healthy, then draft a guy do be our slot corner working underneath them. I am also excited to see if Tray Walker starts to catch onto the NFL before next season.

I like Shareece a lot! I think we have the CBs in place right now to be very successful. With Tray Walker having a year under his belt and Will Davis back, we can afford to pick up a talented but raw CB in the draft. That will allow us to focus our #1 pick on a pass rushing LBer or DE or if lucky a stud OL.

Wright played well to end the season but considering the circumstances he landed on our roster and the fact that he was pretty good, not good not great, I'd say a 2 or 3 year deal max should be headed his way since he is likely to get an increase in snaps with Webb moving to FS permanently. OF course he has to come cheap, a low risk move that's right up Ozzie's alley.

He was convincing - except for that nasty first game - which was hardly his fault. I would rather pin it on the coaches: to put a guy in at CB mere days after he first joined the team... that's a serious no-no. I know, I remember we had an immediate need there and then - still.

I surely prefer a CB who rarely has INT's but gives up 12 yards per game on average over one who has lots of INT's but also gives up lots of yardage and TD's...

The best would be the combination of the two of course - lots of INT's and few yards/TD's given up - but if he was like that he would have never been available in the first place...

Wrights okay but we can do better. There's a bevy of corners going into FA. I'd make a play for SEAN SMITH with his money and a little cap savings via cuts. Two positions actually. (Corner and Receiver). Now If he signed a front loaded deal with most being a signing bonus to clear the books of little to no dead money sure. But nothing beyond 3 years and if he scoffed @ it then see yah. He has no leverage currently. Lets keep it that way.

They already Shut down Antonio Brown in December, and I believe they did a pretty good job against Cincy.

Shareece worked hard and showed improvement from week to week, tackles well, and made some great plays for us. He also showed a lot of promise on ST if I remember correctly, which is right up Harbaugh's alley. I'd say he's earned his spot. Glad he wants to stick around!

These two guys have some great chemistry and work really well together. I like it. Sign him and let them lock down the secondary.

I like Wright, he's had some pretty clutch moments. For example the 4th down play vs the steelers, he closed out that game for us. There's more but that's the one I remember the most.

He played surprisingly well during the second half of the season. Looking at our other options currently on the roster I think it would be a good idea to keep him and look for another CB early in the draft.

His close friendship with Smith could create some friendly rivalry that motivates them both to perform well.
