I say yes. Like after TD players jumping into crowd like the Lambeau leap. I say do that thats a 15 yard penalty on kickoff. Punching goal post using as punching bag, Flipping rolls or even acting out a role-play in end zone. Thats also 15 yards on kickoff. I don't mind spiking the ball or high fives thats ok. No celebrating on field when game clock is running,,Like after a catch like signaling first down or saluting to the crowd after a sack thats a 15 yard penalty. If you want to celebrate an catch after first down make sure game clock is stopped before you can do it. Players are there to play football its like doing your job. If we all acted like arses i our jobs wed get fired right? So why shouldn't be strict rules on players doing their jobs?

We have too many rules already. What you just described would cause flags thrown almost every down. Surprised you was ok with spiking or high fives (not like us normal folks do that at our jobs) but maybe I'll try to start a new trend... get something done at work and ask for high fives or spike my padfolio to the ground lol

Sorry but gotta vote no for this one

Well look at college football. Refs are so strict on TD celebrations. Now some games when a team has an 40 point lead in 4th they do it anyway and you saw refs throwing flags on celebrations. Like the one Notre Dame got

Is that you Roger Goodell?

As any NFL fan would tell you, we need less rules and mote of simplifying of the rule book. Now as far as excessive celebration goes, let the players celebrate and do what ever. Don't like it, don't let them score. To me excessive celebration should only be called when what the players are doing is delaying the game.

Or if Jimmy Graham or any other player wants to dunk the ball, fine but if it breaks or bends when he dunks, then throw the flag since fixing the post delays the game. Other than that, let them have fun.

Also if players want to celebrate after a first ok fine, do so but make sure it doesn't go on too long that could force the team to use a timeout or not do it during a comeback under 2:00.

Penalties for excessive celebrations? C'mon people ... do we really want to skew the outcome of the game being played on the field over some silly interpretation of what is an excessive celebration?

IMO, penalties are in place when some action outside of the rules give one team a competitive advantage over the other. Punishment should fit the crime, right?

Let them celebrate as long as it isn't vulgar, disrespectful, or game delaying.

Thats my point. It does hold up the game. Especialy this

I don't get the "delaying the game" argument, the game gets delayed a ton for other reasons so not sure how celebrations make a difference. The adverts every couple of minutes are the main problem. Let them celebrate!

Remember how we used to watch the Colts in Baltimore. I didn't see one dance at Memorial Stadium when they scored a TD. Not even Glenn Doughty or even Roger Carr danced in the end zone. When they scored they just spike the ball and greeted each other. Not the stupid stuff we see players do every game now. Even the late Tom Landry who wouldn't allow his cowboys to celebrate like that, He has warned them if he sees them do that expect a big fine from me.

I just can't stand when a team is down by 20 or something and a guy gets a first down and its like he just made the game winning play. Like Barry Sanders father told him, act like you been there before...

Lmao I'd like to see fewer rules on celebrations. It's among the stupidest penalties in all of sports. Like really, you can't celebrate a touchdown? Candy butt crap.

Simplifying the rule book is a must. No gray areas and all 15 yd penalties should be reviewed immediately by the upstairs. I seen way too many bad calls of this variety. Also agree on your celebration thing where only if it delays the game(ex: Burfict running into tunnel after pick against Steelers) but really should the refs throw a flag on Stewart after he gave that ball to that little girl.

Me and you both. Just plain stupid.

Sports is about entertainment - let the players have some fun and let the fans be entertained.

The No Fun League isn't the only league that cracks down too hard on celebrations as it is.

Im not saying that. You can celebrate a TD but keep it to an minimum.

I guess it was sometime in the mid or late 80's.  It got real bad.  Teams would line up six seven eight players or whatever and they would do this big involved choreographed dance.  It was pretty pathetic and really did take forever.

so when perriman catches the gme winning touchdown in a superbowl from the last play of the game you want him to walk over to flacco and shake his hand and say nice throw? Gotcha

Taunting an opposing player is one thing, but TD celebrations are often epic and entertaining. As long is it just the scoring player doing the celebrating it needs to stay.

I like the celebrations after a touchdown.  Or after a sack.  But I hate it when some makes a tackle after a guy has rushed for five yards and starts celebrating.  If you don't have an interception, a sack ,a forced fumble, a tackle for a loss or a stop on third down you should not be celebrating on defense.
