Lost's Pre-Combine Mock Draft

10 posts in this topic

I lied.. But since I'm super busy the next two weeks. I figured I should take the time to do one of these.

So let me start off by saying. Tucker, Aiken, and KO somehow manage to stay in this scenario.

1. Mackensie Alexander CB, Clemson

Is Treadwell worth it in the first round... Yes. He is. But Alexander is a straight up technician. He's got good quickness, length, and excels in man coverage. He's got a very high ceiling and imo a low floor. He's the safe pick, kind of like Mosely was.. Some fans will hate it, others will love it, overall. I think he's the #2 CB we've been looking for, and possibly a future #1.

TRADE

*Baltimore trades their second and fourth rounders up to 31 to select

Tyler Boyd WR Pitt

Tyler Boyd has amazing hands. He plucks the ball out of the air. He's already a very technically sound route runner. His issues? Lack of top end speed, and well.. He's got a DUI to his name. But he was tailor made for this team. He can find zones and get open, is craft in his routes. He's got a very high floor. And may well be worth that fancy fifth year.

Round Three: Jordan Jenkins Edge, Georiga

Jenkins to me is a jack of all trades master of none. He does pretty much everything well, but isn't overly good at any of them.

That's fine. We need a few of those guys. He's never going to be an elite pass rusher but that does not mean he's going to be a bad player. He brings value as a pass rusher and a run defender. In coverage, no but as the other two he's good.

Round Four (comp): Byron Marshall WR/RB

I agree with Grim and others. We lack speed at the RB position. Enter Marshall. He played WR last season but projects as a sort of Randall Cobb esq player. Something we could honestly use. Allen is a receiving back sure, but we lack a true Jacoby Jones esq big play threat. This is where Marshall comes in. He's lightning fast, and got good vision.

Round 5:Dan Voltz.

We happen to have the RB coach that used to work with Voltz. I like John, I like Jensen, but more than one injury on the oline could kill us. I like Wisconsin olinemen. Voltz helped paved the way for Gordon.

Here I stop. Have not gotten far.

The comparison gets made wayyyy more than it should but I see Upshaw in Jenkins. I used to like him more than Floyd about midway through the season but I've soured since. Doesn't bring alot as a rusher and I don't even see the speed to get around tackles like Upshaw. I see a solid run defender as an OLB but I don't see pass rusher production for him.

I don't know about Marshall, I don't particularly like taking guys like him in the draft, they rarely work out. I don't think that should particularly be used as an excuse to stay away alone (I really don't like those types of arguments but sometimes they hold a bit of merit). Guys that are just billed as "playmakers" rarely translate well enough to justify the pick...just something to keep in mind I guess.

I think OT depth is needed far more than inside depth, especially if KO leaves.

I like Alexander a lot, I do believe he's simply the best pure man-cover CB in the draft, simple as that. I'm fine with him at pick #6, but the one that would complete this draft for me is Tyler Boyd. I really think he's the #2 WR in this draft and certainly not far from Treadwell, actually I think its close between the two. What I love about him is his "play-making" ability. You know I, and plenty others, and Harbaugh and Ozzie have spoke up about the lack of play-makers on this roster. I've said McKensie Alexander hasn't proven himself as a play-maker, but I think I was wrong about that. I think with the fact that he was not tested at all at Clemson pretty much hugely attributed to his lack of INTs. Once he gets to the NFL that should change. Getting two play-makers in back-to-back picks would be a win.

Love this draft. I'm fine with Jenkins in the 3rd and I think he brings some nastiness and versatility because he could very well line up as a 3-4DE and bring some pocket pushing to the edge rush

After day two if this were our draft, I'd be pretty darn happy. I'm really big on Alexander so I think he would be worth the #6 pick unless we get a sweet trade back deal.

I like the first two picks. I'm not a fan of taking Jenkins. I'd honestly rather take Vonn Bell, who I think very well could be there, than Jenkins. I just don't like the idea of taking an OLB for the sake of it. It's not that I dislike him, but he's not a guy I like a lot, either. I've had enough of guys like him, but I actually do think he is better in some ways than his counterpart. Marshall is cool. I like his speed & gears.

I'm not a fan of Jenkins.  Beyond just me not liking the player, I think we could use a speed rusher over a power rusher.
