[News] Ravens Make Two Additions To Coaching Staff

On hireing Reed. How many great players made great coaches? Just becuz you can play doesn't mean you can translate your talent into words for others to follow. Look at the most successful coaches that played and they were lucky to see the field.

Pretty much zero percent chance Steve cares who the secondary coach is...

I think one of the prime factors of Bisciotti's success as an owner is that he doesn't think he is the GM and HC...

Here's a good piece from RSR why it's not a problem for us that Reed's not starting his NFL coaching career in Baltimore:

Ed has more practical experience,  knows most receivers,  younger, played in the AFC, and highly respected by players.

... and also zero coaching experience and history. And that's not at all to be underestimated when you coach in the NFL. Frazier and Cullen, on the other hand, have  proven that they can be good coaches. Reed is a clean sheet in this respect: we have no idea how he, as a coach will turn out to be. Maybe the best ever - maybe a bust - possibly somewhere in between.

The Frazier hiring seems the most promising if not the most exciting because I don't think I am the only fan who thinks the Ravens secondary has um...how should we say it, "dropped the ball."

I was really hoping to add Mike Nolan or Lovie Smith to our defensive staff, but we have done very well with adding these guys. They have quite a bit of experience at coaching and have had proven results in the past. Adding that type of experience will only open up more opportunities for us to be better next year.

Smh. Woulda been better to get someone younger. And is it just me or did I remember this guy having a bad time getting along with players?

Funny how a lot of you are already praising this move Lol. The season that taught us to not assume anything about a player/coaches ability until THE SEASON PLAYS OUT has just passed, and you guys are already getting amnesia by congragulating this move Lol. Im sticking by what I learned from this past season....I'll wait till next season around week 6-7 to make judgments.

At least with Frazier, you can't deny that this is a step in the right direction. When he was the Eagles' DB coach, he took their secondary from a middle-of-the-road group to a secondary that ranked in the top 10 each year he was the DB coach. Given how bad the secondary has been each of the last two years, the Ravens need all the help they can get.

Frazier is a tremendous addition to the coaching staff. At some point please schedule jugs practices to help our DBs hold onto some balls, we easily could have doubled our interceptions if they held onto a few more balls%uD83D%uDE07

I agree man!  Jimmy Smith alone should have had about 6 or 7 interceptions.  I think I saw him drop about 5 or 6 interceptions this season.  he dropped 2 or 3 of them in one game!  Will Hill should have had like 3 or 4.  Our free safeties wont catch any footballs cause they just tackle guys when the ball is still 15 yards away.  That tackle I saw Lewis make against the Bengals our last game was embarrassing the ball wasnt even close and he tackled the wr out of bounds!  No only do they not catch the ball they also dont even look for it.  Very very poor technique this past year.  But they did play very good technique wise the 2nd half of the year.  When they try to look for the ball they get burnt, when they try to cover the guy and not look for the ball they make dumb penalties.  Hopefully Frazier can make them feel a little more comfortable.  When they draft Jalen Ramsey this year I think the secondary will get much better.  Ramsey, Smith, Webb, and Hill as our starting 4 secondary players sounds awesome to me.

Based on what I've seen recently, the very last thing our defense needs is a coach who is buddy buddy with the players...

I'm not mad with the current picks at all. I don't know why people disrespecting Ed Reed. WHY??? Let's state obvious reasons. If Ray Lewis said he wanted to be a linebackers coach and Harbaugh didn't pick him up. You guys would be upset for the same reasons Baltimore didn't get Reed. I would love to here why you shouldn't hire Ed ReedHis accolades, future hall of famer, leadership, and strong familiarity with the team and coaching staff. The last one goes a long way considering the players would want to play for Ed Reed the same way they would want to play for Lewis. Bellichick praises Ed Reed for his film study so I have full faith the DB's would be ready to go gameday. Webb looked up to Ed Reed when he first got to the team and didn't improve until he started watching film with him. Webb moving to safety where Ed used to play and would have been a great mentor. Most of you fans want the franchise to draft or acquire the next Ed Reed. You would be crazy not to consider Ed Reed. Once again I like the new coaches acquired, but don't disrespect one of the best safeties to play the game ever.

ravens don't like to spend money, that's why they don't do more in free agency. penny wise and dollar foolish. 3 for a nickel type of a team. al cheapo.

He should care unless he wants to continue to see the defense stink... absolutely no playmakers whatsoever on this defense- not 1

That's absolutely ridiculous. There is NOTHING cheap about the Ravens. They spend to the cap limit every year.

I just want to know which one of these coaches that was just hired comes from a winning team? And why was Ed Reed not hired seeing how well he played the game, he was a coach on the field and Harbaugh and Ozzie let him get away, senselessness once again, but we'll see how this plays itself out!!!

Great hires, lets see some real defense now.... I am also hoping Marc and Marty are working on improving our RED ZONE Offense, because if we dont resign Tucker, not sure how we are going to score any points?

Basically all of them. Also irrelevant whether they came from a winning team or not.

These are assistant coaches.

After 15 years in management, I learned quickly the best workers are rarely good in management.

"If" Reed proves to be good at coaching, good for him but it's ridiculous to assume he was out savior or something

Would a player rather listen to someone who played the position and a first round HOF or someone who they never heard of?
