Leslie Frazier Hired as Defensive Assistant

On point 1 your right on the money, except it was 2012.With the second post,I gotta disagree with. The entire fanbase was callin for cam to get fired as well as many in the media realising his ceiling and understanding that with his conservative playing style and vanilla/predictable playing style, the ravens would only go so far.i do agree that it was a suprise that he got fired but more so when he got fired rather than the fact he got fired. It was after the redskins game and we were in a battle for the north with a few games left.

No, 2013 validated the fact that Caldwell wasn't a great play caller and the fan base turned on him faster than Cam.

Oh,my fault.Thought you meant it validated that he was a good play caller. We're on the same page then.

Good football coach. Like to see a coach with some fire and some outward energy. Seems we tend towards who seem agreeable and overall nice guys who won't rock the boat.

We change assistant coaches every year. This year is no different. I don't see the influx you are talking about.

Is it considered an influx because we hired a "name" like Leslie Frazier? If we hired somebody nobody had ever heard of, would it still be considered an "influx"?

I just don't get it. To me, these boards have always been hypocritical when it comes to assistant coaches anyway. I view them as far, far, far less important to a team than some of you do, and it seems that we literally only put a ton of weight into our assistant coaches when the team is struggling. I didn't hear a whole lot from 2008-2012 about assistant coaches (not coordinators), and not a whole lot last season either.

2013... it was everything was Juan Castillo's fault, and then we quickly realized that was completely absurd. Now, evidently the solution is to fire all the defensive coaches and get new one's.

Me, I take more of a practical approach. I put emphasis on actual players, as in the guys who are actually playing football.

In my lifetime, I've never seen a DC or an assistant coach draw up a scheme that says "hey guys, today, we are going to give up 400 yards passing". Not once have I seen that. I've seen some really good schemes, play calls, etc. look really bad due to extremely poor execution, which represents about 90% of the problem in my eyes.

Assistant coaches help their respective positions in technique. We've really struggled with technique a lot on the defensive side of the ball. I think this is where this opinion originates. While I think you make fair points regarding scapegoats, I have to say that it's often easier to replace position coaches than personnel depending on the personnel. Some coaches are just better with teaching guys than others, whether it's due to personality or just ability to teach.

For instance, our WR corps has looked significantly better since Bobby Engram came to town. I can't say that's a coincidence.

Frazier is a great addition imo. Always been well liked by players and got guys to play hard with good technique. We need a respected, experienced teacher in the secondary and we got it.

Cullen is a great plan b in case anything happens to Brooks and he needs time away from coaching during the season. And if Brooks is ready to go, then it's just another experienced and respected coach on staff.

My question, which I haven't seen mentioned anywhere, is what could this mean for Lovie Smith? Recently fired HC looking for employment and the 2 biggest pieces of his defensive staff find employment before him.

Could it be a move to lure him here? Or, is it an indication that he's stepping away from coaching for a year to wait for the right situation?

Most likely the latter as I don't see him accepting a position as anything less than a DC and I don't see us parting ways with Pees... Could he be brought on as a Senior Assistant Head Coach and overall defensive assistant somewhat like Spags was originally? Doubtful of course, but I'd love it if we could somehow bring him on.

Lots of coaches who want to revive their careers and had plans for bigger promotion elsewhere would want to come here first. History indicates that and I wouldn't be surprised that Lovie Smith would be here as Senior assistant coach or something....

We are like a career center.....

BTW, welcome Fraizer.....great hire per say....

This is a warning shot to Pees IMO. If the defense underwhelms in 2016 this could be a sign that he's a goner.

I'd like him here if Pee's doesn't pan out in the early going of the season. He would definitely solidify our ranks in the d position.
