Leslie Frazier Hired as Defensive Assistant

Rotoworld.com has him pegged as a secondary coach, but I haven't seen it confirmed otherwise. It has been said that he'll work closely with Dean Pees. I have respect for Frazier. It is an interesting hire given his past teams' philosophies, however.

Secondary and linebackers specialist. But I don't know much about his qualifications and creativeness??

Setting up a scheme change to the 4-3? First they brought in Joe Cullen from Tampa who ran a 4-3, now Frazier who is known for a 4-3 defense is our defensive assistant. This is interesting, I love the 3-4 we have but a scheme switch might do us well. This is a good hire, not just because he can be the in house replacement if Pees is fired in the middle of the season, but also because he's a great defensive mind and would be able to help with the scheme switch.

New secondary coach!

Wohoo! No more Hewitt right. Good defensive mind. Good in house replacement for Dean Pees.

Great hire.

Hewitt will be staying as an assistant.

Seems like the team realizes that Pees can be trusted alone. Glad we're getting some help. Frazier had a pretty bad defense in Tampa though.

Brooks has reportedly become the senior defensive assistant. The current DL coach is Cullen.

As long as we actually scheme to our players skill sets I like the moves; hope Jimmy can stop press but with Pees and Frazier here it looks like we're committing to off man coverage, something also tells me the front office likes Hargreaves.

They were strange in that they were statistically the 10th best in yards allowed and the 7th best in yards allowed per play, but they were also the 7th worst in points allowed. They were a highly leaky unit in 2014 from what I recall. I'll cut Frazier some slack this season given the talent gap. I believe that Jude Adjei-Barimah, Sterling Moore, Chris Conte and Bradley McDougald saw the most starts at CB and Safety, respectively, which is somewhat of an eye sore considering their lack of outside pass rushers. It'll be interesting to see how he impacts the defense. I definitely concur with being happy about getting help.

I like the 2 new Defensive hires makes you wonder about the possible switch to 4-3 which is on a thread somewhere I guess this week at the meetings we will get more of an idea of how to run the D and who to draft I am very curious as to what changes could be made

FYI, Frazier is more of a Tampa 2 type guy than a 4-3, though Tampa 2 usually runs out of a 4-3. If implemented, it means jam coverage on the outside from corners followed by a drop into deep zone coverage. MLBs typically drop into deeper zone coverage as well.

Given that he's a secondary coach and not a DC, I don't expect significant changes. But if you were looking for more press man coverage from the secondary, this hire appears to be the exact opposite.

What does that have to do with the secondary?

lol, nothing . imo with the extra minds on defense coaching

this will put forth better schemes and put players in position for success

with all the talk of the second half of the season, def ranked so much higher

ok, we need a couple tweaks , DE,CB LT,we have specialty coaches in place that will coach up a young player

but a true 1 TREADWELL , natural and smooth,

for me I look at the addition of the coaches as a sign we going treadwell..

again this is just my thoughts, maybe wishes and some prayers,

ok please football GODS ,,

This is one hell of a damn move!!! Absolutely pumped to see how Leslie works with our secondary. His guys tend to play hard and aggressive. He's a brilliant defensive mind and players love him.

This, to me, is absolutely an indication of the direction we want to move on defense. Attacking all over the place. Attacking dline and attacking secondary. Both the guys we brought in are Tampa 2 guys who coached under Lovie Smith. I like this.

What happened to our DL coach Brooks?

I believe his new title is senior defensive assistant. Cullen, I believe, is taking over full time as DL coach.

Similar move to hiring Jim Caldwell. We now have the coaching staff in house to fire pees midseason if need be.

Maybe a sign of a scheme change and maybe a sign we like VH3

Why does everything need to tie into not trusting/liking Pees? If the FO thought Pees was not the right guy he wouldn't remain on the staff. smh

Great hire. Ravens are stacking the coaching staff with highly intelligent guys.

Very happy with this.

So the trend continues. Ravens are a magnet for experienced, former HC stuck in limbo. Think he'll do great here.

I like it!!! Frazier is a great coach, never hurts to have guys that excel in technique. We've been missing that.

I wonder if Brooks will be more involved in game planning...
