[News] Mel Kiper Outlines Five Options At Pick No. 6

103 posts in this topic

I'm done talking about Breshard Perriman- let's talk about why Harbs wants another safety when Oz drafted two safeties recently in Matt Elam and Clarence Brookes? He can't seem to draft a legit safety- Will Hill is good though

1. Terrence, not Clarence

2. He's also signed a bunch of safeties who sucked also. So we can't draft them well or sign them well...so how exactly do you upgrade the position without using FA or the draft?

Why would the jags do that?

They had 2 1000+ yard wr's this past season. Their best WR (allen robinson) is a pro bowler. Both are young players that just completed their 2nd seasons in the NFL. WR isn't a need for the jags.

Isn't Allen Hurns' contract ending after next season?

Either way, you can never stop hoping!

Ravens have not got production from their team through top draft picks. Torrey, J Smith, Kindle, Cody, Upshaw, KO, Elam, A. Brown are a bunch of 1st and 2nd round picks that are either under achieving, no longer on the team, or may be unable to resign. That's why I'm hoping Frazier can develop what we have. Also, looking at the playoffs the consistent factor has been the pass rush. A great pass rush sets the tone of a defense. Ravens at #6 can get the one of the best pass rushers in the draft. They should jump at that with Suggs coming off his second injury and hinting the end of his career is near.

Child hood injury, disease, torn ligaments, and slowest healing injury How many red flags doest it take? One Pitts game and you will not see Perriman the rest of year.

Let's see, Torrey Smith is no longer on the team because his production was so good we couldn't afford to re-sign him.

Jimmy Smith is still with the team and has emerged as one of the top CBs in the league.

Upshaw has been a solid contributor during his time with the team.  This past year was bad for him. But that's true for everyone on the Ravens.  Every. Single. Person.

Arthur Brown has performed well when on the field, he just hasn't been given the opportunity to be there much because we have so much depth at MLB.

KO has performed very well and we might be unable to afford to re-sign him because his performance will fetch a big price tag.

So that leaves Elam and Kindle, who have been generally busts, it's true.  Two out of six ain't good.

Meanwhile, you've failed to mention a whole lot of other high round picks the Ravens have made who performed phenomenally and either stayed with the team for many years, or left after being bought out at too high a price for us to afford.  Let's not forget Ray Lewis, Jonathan Ogden, Ed Reed, Peter Boulware, Jamie Sharper, Duane Starks, Jamal Lewis, Todd Heap, Terrell Suggs, Halogti Ngata, Ben Grubbs, Joe Flacco, Ray Rice, Michael Oher, Paul Kruger, and CJ Mosley.

The fact everyone is so determined to say the Raven's draft picks of late are all busts, is a complete disgrace to real football fans. If you want a true sense of good drafting then start by looking at the league as a whole and determine the percentage of 1 round draft picks that "make/made it" as the forecasted superstars everyone thought before drafting them and see how that really pans out at the 4 year mark. Successful ones will earn high-dollar second contracts, while everyone else get fair contracts or is are no longer playing. I don't know the numbers, but I'd estimate it between 3-7% of players drafted in the first round ever live up to the ridiculous hype, and that seems a bit generous without calculating the actual numbers. Point is don't get fooled by the hype and flash. It is most certainly the ends to a means to make it to the next level. The players agents and they themselves understand this and try to work it to their favor. HoF'ers/PB'ers are very seldom well known become coming on the scene. The underlying characteristic of a HoF'er/PB'er is the unrelenting passion to get better, despite any challenges that come their way. They just see it as something new to conquer on the way to the top. Yes you gotta have skill, but without the passion to be better your just another diva. Reality is not every pick is going to be a home run. The Ravens generally have a very low percentage of draft "busts", being players drafted that are out of the league within the first four years or remain fringe/deep depth players. The fact many teams covet obtaining Raven's players speaks to the fact this team is one of the best at developing players period.

Apparently, more.

Though of course there wasn't any talk from fans about said childhood injuries and diseases conveniently until Perriman hurts his knee in camp, so I guess that makes the fans just as guilty of missing the red flags as the FO is. How shall they be held accountable for missing said red flags? I vote ticket revocation... that'll show fans what its really like to be a fan.

God I love hindsight. Nothing more wonderful and simultaneously irrelevant in the whole world.

Good point, and thanks for the Terrence correction.

You could argue that Ozzie has had a difficult time getting an impact player from the draft the last 5-6 years. The counter argument could be our draft position because of how the team has finished but take a look at what the Steelers have added to their offense during the same period with similar draft position. In my mind, he's on the clock now.

Depends on how you define "impactful".

I personally find Brandon Williams, KO and Rick Wagner to be pretty impactful players. They aren't the sexy names running down the sidelines as WRs for Pittsburgh, but that doesn't mean they aren't having monstrous impact.

The draft issues have largely been in the early rounds... we've been about the same as we always have (very effective) in the middle rounds of the draft.

I think thats the biggest thing fans don't understand... you don't grade drafts based on just the first round pick. If you get 3-4 quality starters or players in a draft class, you've done very well. Doesn't matter what round they come from.

has Kiper EVER been right about who we draft first?

Don't think so, he has predicted the player position we  have needed before but not sure he has accurately called the actual player name before.  I am more concerned that we make this draft count this coming season, we need help in so many areas (WR, CB, S, DE, LB, etc...) and we can't whiff on as many as we have in the past 3 years.

It would be sweet if we landed Treadwell at #6, maybe some of the teams in front of us will go with a QB pick and he will still be on the board (keeping fingers crossed).  I am not discounting Permian yet, but he at least needs to hit the playing field in 2016, and I think our young group of TEs are going to be a nice offensive option for Joe next season.

Go RAVENS!

The Ravens play Woody Hayes football and the Squeelers adapted to the arena league style that has become the NFL. It also doesn't hurt them that Hailey's tenure has been 4 years now

Well, yes and no. Its also not a coincidence that the four remaining teams all averaged less than 20 points allowed per game.

And, in fact, the last eight teams remaining in the postseason all finished in the top 12 in PPG allowed, and none of them allow more than 20 PPG on average.

Its no longer good enough to simply just try to put up 30 points every week and hope to win.
