[News] Late For Work 1/15: Joe Flacco, Ron Jaworski Team Up On Golf Course Purchase

45 posts in this topic

There is one point of view of the Reed-signing people don't seem to consider: we all know how Ed always loved Rex - what if he specifically wanted to work, and learn the ropes and bells of coaching in the NFL under him? I could very easily imagine that was the case.

Reasons why these bottom feeder franchisers do not hire Billick as a HC are beyond me

Part of the reason may be is that they are not willing to outpay his media contract - and rightly so. The same reason Gruden and Tony Dungy are in the media instead of at the sidelines...

Like I said, He be faking most of the time. Trying to add to the legend of Big Ben. If anyone is faking it's Ben. He's had at least one serious injury in his whole career- Give me break. I guess he thinks it gives him a competitive edge to think he's fooling someone. No excuses this time Benny cause without AB you really would be hurt. Mostly your feelings.

Torrey, you ready to come back home yet? I don't blame him for chasing the money but I always felt he would be more accepted here and eventually earn more money over his career. San Fran is a mess. Kelly might chuck Torrey for the sake of it.

There actually are reasons...  I am quite sure of that.

I remember "hearing" that he simply doesn't want to relocate. Loves where he's living and happy with his life the way it is.

The way Kelly operates they might trade him for a bag of balls. Then again I guess we are hearing he is going to have less say in personnel.

I don't think Flacco is worth that money. We paid him for his super bowl win in the last contract. I am sounding like a broken record I know. He has a losing record since his last contract. He has as many ints as tds, that concerning. We can blame everyone around him, but everyone around him didn't make bad decisions to throw picks, everyone around him didn't make him overthrow the ball, everyone around him didn't make him throw off his back foot when there was no pressure in the pocket. I like him, I think he is a good 80 - 90 million dollar qb over 6 years with about 30 of that guaranteed. The Ravens can't afford to help Joe build anymore golf courses until he gets better. I might almost eat this year and see what he does before diving in for 6 more based on his play recently.

His contract to be in the booth wasn't renewed this year so im sure he is just a spare with his limited appearances

LOVE Brian Billick with the swagger. Brainy and brash, he knows what he's talking about and will tell it to you in whichever way he pleases lol. This is unlike some airheads who just have the 'brash' part down. Ben IS a drama queen: self-reporting and exaggerating to the media, hobbling around on the field only to scramble for a first down, etc. He's tough and a great player but he wants to tell you how great he REALLY is... Keep giving it to them, BB!

I've just never been a fan.  I lost respect for him when he fired Dilfer the morning after the Super Bowl.

If you watch the road to SuperBowl 35, you can see how he reacts to things is just a little over the top sometimes.  Just kind of spouts it off without thinking of the ramifications or the outcome of his actions.

I must be out of the loop on this one. Are there people that actually think this is a coincidence and Buffalo just happened to offer Reed a job and Rex just happened to work there?

YUP...  Who gets "carted off" for a shoulder?  Ben is a drama queen.

Perfect example of that is exactly my response to Moderator 3.  Sometimes it backfires on him.

Hence why he went to play for the Jets when the Texans thing didn't work out.  Reed is Rex's boy...  They have always had that kind of relationship.  That was definitely planned out... for sure.

TBH...(and I know this will not be popular) but I love Joe... but I think I may be shopping him around if I was Ozzie and Company! We are not a team build on the passing game. We are not the Patriots or the Packers or even the sqeelers who's offense is built around their QB! WE are a balance offense (heck maybe even a run first offense). Look at the points per game we avg/ without Joe (and so many other weapons). Joe is a very good QB... but he is not worth 28million in BMORE> Sure he is in other systems but not here. We have proven...we don't need a great QB just a solid game manager. I think that we can get a very good game manager for significantly less then 28million per... and probably for less then 20 million per. I know this will not be popular but Joe has outpriced himself and if he and his agent are not willing to workout a deal... I would have to question if Joe couldn't serve us a better in a blockbuster deal then on the field? 28million would just damage us too much overall... I know this is not MLB and blockbuster deals are rare but if anyone would pull it off it would be Ozzie... he has been know for letting fan favorites go in the past! (Todd Heap, Ed Reed, Boldin, Torrey, Mason, Pollard, Adalius Thomas, Etc)! just saying!

I agree with Billick that Ben is a drama queen and one of the biggest in the league. I do not agree that he is one of the toughest in the NFL (even at his position). When is the last time ben has played all 16 games? ben is always injured. Hard to bring down? YES... tough? NO... Ben is certainly no Steve McNair -that was a tough QB!

In today's NFL you are nothing without a good QB. Nothing. Throwing away one when you are lucky enough to have one sounds like the kind of move that helps any GM have his name preserved in eternity, as "the GM who gave away his franchise QB in his prime."

Ever since Imus went off the TV I don't turn on the TV in the morning. With the exception of 8am Sunday morning on the NFL channel. Brian is on. I really like him and his football expertise. About Big Ben BINGO....he hit the nail right on the head. Brian was the perfect coach for our 2000 Super Bowl team. Great defense along with Marvin Lewis, but it was the leader that said " we're going down to Tampa and kick the door in".....and they did. Huge Super Bowl for Baltimore as it started the healing of the many wounds the NFL had put on the great football town of Baltimore.

I think this bridge was built from both sides ;)

That Ben guy is the biggest whiner in all of football and has a reputation that is nothing like the real him. He is called Big Ben, but he is not all that big, more fat. He is supposedly the toughest guy, but whines and whimpers when hit. Now, contrast that with Flacco and you will know who the real tough QB in the league is. Drama Queen - Ben. Expressionless statue - Flacco.

BIO.... I don't disagree with you and I know that in today's NFL you need a franchise QB. I believe that is accurate with 27 or 28 teams in todays NFL. I also believe that the Ravens are the exception to that rule. We won our first SB with Trent Dilfer at QB...and a woeful offense. I know that was a different coach and system but the scheme is not that much different. We are a run first team, who passes to alleviate pressure from the run game. The formula was the same when we won our second SB. We are never going to be that team who wins off of QB play alone (Pats, GB, NO, SD, Pitt, etc). We really don't need that franchise QB we need a very good game manager. That's what Joe actually is! While I am not ready to lose Joe... (bc I don't know what we would get in return). I am not ready to mortgage the future to have a game manager now! If joe was a tom brady, aaron rodger, drew brees I get it... they will win games on their own. Joe is not that person and 28 million for a game manager is a trade off that I say is worth looking into what we (could) get for him???? We may look and find that what we get in return is not worth losing Joe but we may not? IF he don't re-negotiate- I say we start shopping..... Ohhh and by the way... a few GMs have done it successfully (RGIII was benched and that turned out well, Drew Bledsoe was traded away and a guy named Tom Brady replaced him, The chargers traded Drew Brees and Phillip Rivers turned out to be pretty darn good) I know and I can say that each had a replacement waiting in the wings... (IDK just don't think Joe is a great value at 28million and if not maybe need to see who else is available at a slightly lesser price tag and evaluating our options???
