[News] Late For Work 1/14: Ed Reed Lands NFL Coaching Gig ... Not In Baltimore

87 posts in this topic

Harbaugh is by far the better coach. Players may like Rex but he has won absolutely nothing. Guarantees everything but produces nothing. Harbaugh has gone to playoffs 6 of 8 years and won a Superbowl. There really is no comparison. Harbaugh =Winner, Rex=Not a winner. Why do you think he was not named the Ravens Head Coach? Simple answer. You have seen and heard why.

Congrats to EReed! I really do think that he will be an asset to the Bills but I also think he is under the right guy with Rex... Wishing him success!

Flacco a winner, Rex QB's not winners. Rex is a better coach and Flacco is a better quarterback.

No defense, no Kubiak, 2 bad seasons, that's harbaugh.

And what about the other 6 seasons? That was not "harbaugh"? Or you just discarded them, because they don't support your disappointment? And what about the Super Bowl without Kubiak?

Reading before commenting is fundamental. We had defense up until the super bowl, success, afterwards one year we had Kubiak success. What part you don't understand. We had a quarterback finally what Billick was missing. Harbaugh without Kubiak and ravens real defense is trash.

Flacco and the offense won us the second super bowl. Yes defense was our strength until 2012. Ravens offense ranked 14th in the league with 4 different quarterbacks, 3rd string running back, 1 receiver on the roster at the end of the season that started the season with us, 3rd string tight end, and a rotating offensive line that was injured. I would call that an accomplishment. And with all of that we lost 9 of our 11 games by a score or less. Harbaugh is a great coach and any other team going through this would most likely fire coaches. What we need was to be healthy and we ended strong statistical wise the last half of the season defensively ranking 2nd in the league. It also does not help when your best defensive player went out week one for the entire season and your last two first round draft picks didn't play a snap this year because of injuries. With what the Ravens had left, which was minimal, I would say I am surprised they didn't end the season with only 1 or 2 wins, let alone being in most games at the end of it all.

Reed knew Rex longer... That is why he is not here. Rex is a coach known for getting to know his players outside of football like family. Reed was under Rex since 1999 until 2008 when Rex became the head coach of the Jets. He was under Harbaugh for only 4 years. Rex Ryan is by far and would be a better defensive coordinator but I have to give props to Harbaugh for being a better head coach with the success he has had in Baltimore.

Agreed with the first post. Rex is most likely coaching his last year in Buffalo. Ed is most likely on a one year tryout. Additionally, Rex is loose with his coaching style and it is likely Ed feels more comfortable there. I wish him the best but I don't see his gig with the Bills lasting that long. Ryan is a great coordinator but not a good head coach. The Bills will clean house next year in my opinion.

This is a silly rationale. Rex Ryan wanted Mark Sanchez. They traded up for him because Ryan wanted him. He got a Mark Sanchez tattoo, for crying out loud.  You can't divorce Mark Sanchez's failures from Rex Ryan.

Sadly, I don't think Cleveland's ownership will allow Jackson to succeed. Something is fundamentally broken in that franchise.

If we get rid of Pees... we have the talent on defense to be a very good defense. I really like what Trestmen did in his inaugural campaign with us and with a very empty talent cupboard. Next season can only be better under Trestman but I have no reason to believe that Pees has what it takes to right the ship on that side of the ball. If we could replace Pees we have a strong enough core group of players to make me very optimistic about 2016 (but it don't sound like Pees is going anywhere) Increasing my pessimism- IDK... I am just so tired of Pees excuses!

This year, we were the #8 overall ranked defense without Suggs and with a revolving door at CB. Rex Ryan and his super talented team were #19 and Pagano's led Colts were # 26.

I would say a Top 10 defense in the league has "righted the ship". Stop regurgitating "Pees must go" garbage and look at the facts.

We need a DB coach & a WR coach, but the DC & OC are fine.

Agree. The job Harbaugh did this was actually remarkable. He deserves more credit and respect than some on here is giving him. Not once did this team give up or give in. The effort was top notch in EVERY game despite everything that was happening to this team. Close games when we were supposed to be blown out.The record may not have been what we wanted, but it showed that Harbaugh is the coach that we want and for a very long time.

Your right. Every time they fire head coach/gm. They hire the Head coach first, GM 2nd. Makes no sense.

Wrong. How many Superbowls has Rex won? Zero Case closed

Man, I really wish Ed got to work with our guys in Baltimore, but his relationship with Rex is probably closer than it is with Harbaugh. And there also could have been an awkward coaching situation since Reed played with Webby and Smith.

Wishing Ed Reed the best. He is a Raven , but I think him being a coach with Rex is OK. I'm not real sure he and Harbaugh would get along. Still think #20 "can" be a good Coach, though.

Sad about Lawrence Phillips. You are held accountable for your decisions, choices and actions that you make in your life. He made some wrong ones, for sure.

Great news for Reed. He will be a great coach, and wish him the best. Hope he lands in Baltimore one day and brings back that Swagger to Ravens Nation.

According to Hensley Ed wasn't coachable! That's so funny it's a shame to even put that in print. It must have been tough to be overshadowed by the future HOF for a lot of coaches.

It's remarkable how fans lack of knowledge make them feel real good about a bad coach, every year people say fire a coordinator, a guy harbaugh hired, the only guys no one ever said fire was guys harbaugh didn't hire. Our fans know they love football but that's all they really know. Praise harbaugh for hiring a bunch of guys we want fired, that's the spirit.

Cam, Juan, Dean, Mattison etc. People going to say he hired Kubiak, yeah right he didn't even make the call then lied and said he did, that's a front office move.

All our defensive guys from Rex's era love that man. Many have said he is like a father figure to them so this is great news for Ed Reed. Who's to say he even wanted to learn under Pees? Very happy for Ed and wish him the best of luck in Buffalo.

And to me that speaks volumes of the man...regardless of how some out there and in here try to trash him.....

but they also played some crappy teams in the second half of the season with some bad offenses that can make the #8 ranking misleading. against the better teams like seattle and kc the defense was awful. cincy was missing dalton and the steelers had close to 400 yds in their loss. we were the 9th worst team as far as pts against. pees is not aggressive or creative enough to bring this defense back to being the bully on the block. i wish him the best because he is the dc for next season and i do not want to miss the playoffs again so i hope he improves scheme wise. secondary coaches should have definitely been replaced.

Agreed, it all starts with the owner. Firing coaches every year will not fix your team

Wishing him the best of luck (except against us) but it did seem he rubbed coaches the wrong way at times as a player and I could see him doing the same as a coach. Love him to no end but I'm sure there was reasons we didn't give him a shot

Glad for Ed Reed. It may just be a 1 year gig though. Remember that Rex Ryan was given another year even though rumors were he was going to be fired. If the Bills do not make the playoffs next season, he most likely will be fired and who's to say that the new coach will keep Ed Reed or any of the coaches for that matter.

Rex was given another year to make the playoffs, but he has a nice, long contract. He'll probably not make it again next year, then get fired and go fishing for three years while getting paid.

Good for Ed, I think it's the beginning of a career that will see him make a great DC one day within the next ten years. Hopefully that will be at the Ravens. Hope the Bills DB's have the popcorn maker at the ready for film-night with Ed.
