[News] Late For Work 1/14: Ed Reed Lands NFL Coaching Gig ... Not In Baltimore

87 posts in this topic

Glad for Ed Reed. It may just be a 1 year gig though. Remember that Rex Ryan was given another year even though rumors were he was going to be fired. If the Bills do not make the playoffs next season, he most likely will be fired and who's to say that the new coach will keep Ed Reed or any of the coaches for that matter.

All our defensive guys from Rex's era love that man. Many have said he is like a father figure to them so this is great news for Ed Reed. Who's to say he even wanted to learn under Pees? Very happy for Ed and wish him the best of luck in Buffalo.

Ed Reed coaching somewhere else, man, that stings! I don't know the back story, maybe he wouldn't be a good fit as a coach, but wishful thinking... Ouch!

Congratulations to Hue Jackson! However, not sure how much Cleveland Browns' future hangs on HC only, as the problem is with the entire front office. You need to fix all aspects to be able to improve.

Favorite player of all time. Really underrated as well, he is one of the best if not the best safety in NFL history. He will make that defense top 5 again.

Of course not in Baltimore because harbaugh sucks, nobody wants to coach for him but his friends and guys just fired looking to get a new job later. I'm glad ed is with rex where he can be himself.

The sad part is that Ed Reed may have taken this job for free had Hasbs swallowed some pride and asked for Eds help.

Its Harbaugh who brought the Super Bowl to Baltimore not Rex, every team would love to have John as their head coach.

What's with these guys selling the SB's ring? It's a short term infusion of cash but in the long term it's going to be tough not having the ring to show your kids & grand kids. It's a status symbol that ages very well and is a rare award among the 7 Billion people who live on the planet.

We gotta get the Harbaugh regime outta here. Ed Reed knew that Harbaugh doesn't run this team well, and would much rather work with a guy like Rex that understands his style of gameplay/coaching. Im pissed right now that they didn't give him an offer smh.

Harbaugh is so blind to things that it makes me sick. Ed Reed was ours for the taking, Harbaugh never gave him an offer. I think I remember hearing about Reed trying out with us as a coach a while back?

Correction, it's Flacco and the defense that brought us our 2nd super bowl, it's harbaugh who didn't call a timeout when he saw Cundiff run on the field late to give him time to get ready.

Belly-chick said it himself, he was going to ice Cundiff but saw him run on the field late so he didn't, we had one timeout and our special team head coach wasn't bright enough to know never in the history of football has a kicker ran on the field late. Afterwards Ray Lewis had to give a mastermind speech and announce retirement for us to get the job done, harbaugh could have stayed home all season and let someone else take credit. He did nothing spectacular here except be the speaker of the house.

The last part on this article where Sarah mentions Ozzie's move to draft Johnathan Ogden instead of Lawrence Phillips as "a reminder of Newsome's wise decision making" because the guy didn't have a good career and now was recently found dead in a cell, is a bunch of malarkey lol. No way anyone knew how his life/career would end up. It was just a better option for them to go LT than RB in that round at the time, with a player like Ogden on the board.

I just wish he would use some of that "wise decision making" in the draft nowadays.

Although some realistically feel that Ed is not a good fit for the Ravens, I still maintain hope that 1 day Ed will find his way back home to Baltimore. Good luck on your new coaching adventure Ed.

I'm not glad he's with rex because he should be here with us! He should be here mentoring our guys teaching them how break down film and read quarterbacks. He should be teaching our guys how unleash their greatness because you can't coach greatness you can only guide it to the right path.

I'm so freackin pissed off. Maybe I need a sneakers or something...

Hopefully, Ed goes to Buffalo under Rex for a year or two as an assistant, and then comes here as the DB coach. Can dream anyway; we need REEEED back in the house!

I understand your frustration but harbaugh can't deal with reed kind of greatness. As a true fan of reed I'm glad he's somewhere he can be himself and happy doing his job.

Yeah, Reed knows that Harbs doesn't run this team the right way like Rex does with his teams. I guess that's based on "All The Success" Rex has had in the playoffs ad winning the Super Bowl.

I'm with ya on this one. Harbaugh sucked so bad he won a SB for us. And by the way, great players don't necessarily make great or even good coaches. Prime example, Mike Singletary. For sentimental sake, sure it's too bad Reed didn't wind up here but he can in no way turn a DB group into clones of himself. And that's what people will expect no matter how ridiculous those expectations are. :D

I just don't know. I am happy that Ed Reed seems happy, but it just does not feel right that he is coaching for someone other than the Ravens, considering he was one of the greatest safeties of all time......for US!

To think the Ravens didnt at least discuss making Ed an offer is a little naive. While I love Rex the DC, Rex the HC has not been successful. Rex is a gambler with nothing to lose. Harbaugh is recognized as one of the best coaches in the league and has to be more measured in his decisions.

I guess it's being broke...

I can't see any sane person auctioning a super bowl ring if they have any other option

i was thinking the same thing...maybe they just want to see how he does first and get him some experience under his belt.

how are we to know that they didn't discuss bringing him in ? I'm sure they at least entertained the idea. Probably just thought he wouldn't mesh well with the coaches..they know the personalities in the locker room better than we do.

Sucks to see all these guys selling their rings. Goes to show you that the nfl money doesn't last forever so you better get every penny while you can. Or maybe they are just bad at money managment. When you got all that dough you tend to splurge and before you know it its all gone.

No defense, no Kubiak, 2 bad seasons, that's harbaugh. With our greats on defense success, with Kubiak success, harbaugh track record is coming to light and no one wants to believe it.

Ravensfansince03.... I think they are just pointing out the importance of drafting high character guys...not just drafting on athletic ability. IDK if that was the deciding factor for Ozzie in taking JO over Phillips but I get the point. (and BTW we have had our share on non-character guys) but while I acknowledge that there are exceptions to that rule... I think having that philosophy as a rule has served us well over the years!

If we get rid of Pees... we have the talent on defense to be a very good defense. I really like what Trestmen did in his inaugural campaign with us and with a very empty talent cupboard. Next season can only be better under Trestman but I have no reason to believe that Pees has what it takes to right the ship on that side of the ball. If we could replace Pees we have a strong enough core group of players to make me very optimistic about 2016 (but it don't sound like Pees is going anywhere) Increasing my pessimism- IDK... I am just so tired of Pees excuses!
