Mike's Mock

I debated on doing one this early as things start to get shaken up after the combine and pro days but here is what I believe would help us and are going to be real options with our pick position. Let me know what you think.

Round #1

Mackensie Alexander CB Clemson

081315-NCAA-FB-Clemson-Tigers-Mackensie-

I know the debate is who in the 4 need positions do we go with at #6.I think Bosa and Tunsil will be gone and im not sold on Stanley as a NFL LT cornerstone. So where I love Treadwell, he is not a WR at a high pick like #6 imo like Cooper was at a Top 10 pick last year. I love VH3 but again not top 10 imo. Alexander has grown ALOT on me and after watching alot of film. I believe this guy is the real deal. Big, strong, fast and just blankets receivers. QB's just DONT throw his way. Like it or not...with the WR in our own divison we need a true shut down corner and Smith just fully isnt that. This guy is.

Round # 2

Tyler Boyd WR Pitt

Pittsburgh-Iowa-Football-2.jpg

I really really wanted to go DE OLB here. We need a pass rusher badly and I think IF Perriman comes back healthy and can fulfill his 1st round potential AND we can stay healthy....we are not hateful at WR. However I could not justify any of the normal names mentioned in the 2nd with our pick this early. I want Yannick to be there but his film doesnt support 2nd round imo. Watch his film...he looks like a better option inside then out... So I went with Boyd. He has tons of talent, goes after the ball and I think his ceiling is high.....oh and he broke some guy named Fitzgerald's records at Pitt. Plus Joe could always use another target. I will add this...if Robert Nkemdiche falls to the second. Thats where I would go.

Round #3

Karl Joseph SS WVU

Br98U7MCQAEPQQE.jpg

This was a tough one for me. As much as I wish we could double up in the 2nd round but the 3rd intrigues me alot with alot of possible talent falling here. The guy i am going to list in the 4th could go 3 easily or with Joseph's knee injury....he may fall if he can't work out. Anyway this guy is a baller and just simple makes plays. I would be perfectly contnt with Will Hill ballhawking at FS and Joseph playing SS for us next year. Webb couldnt catch my grandmother at this point so it doesnt matter where he switches too.

Round #4

Tyler Matakevich ILB Temple

stock-photo-philadelphia-november-temple

I love me some Daryl Smith but he is just getting soooo slow at his age ( still making plays though ). I hope Smith is brought back for 1 more year and what better replacement to post up next to Mosby but this years  Chuck Bednarik and Bronko Nagurski Award winner. This very well be a reach as he will probably go earlier.....hince double up in the 3rd idea, but his size will probably cause a fall in his stock as he is listed at 6-00 or 6-01. Both I think are a stretch....im guess more like 5-11.....but the dude is a monster anyway, extremly high motor and makes all the tackles. Heck he even looks like and reminds me of a ginger version of one of my all time favorites Zach Thomas...come on look at him....neck and all.

Round #5

Deon Bush FS Miami

DQPCUDINTBKYEBI.20120903185646.jpg

I know some people think he may go earlier but his tape and most experts put him in the 5th ( We will have an extra 4th too just in case ). Harbs and Ozzie stated Safety is a target but like i said at pick 3 we may be able to work something plus due to injury Terrance Brooks playmaking ability is still on the team. Bush offers all the phyical intangables but jumps routes to quickly and this hurts him at times Plus he always wants to make the big hit. I think with some coaching he could become a very servicable to good safety and an immediate contributor on Special teams.

I didnt do 6 or 7 cuz pretty much after the 3rd it becomes BPA. Also with not knowing for sure where our comps will fall. Alot could change.

Anyway I tried to be realistic as well as filling needs. I know LT is high on everyones list but with not knowing KO's status and not getting warm and fuzzy over any possible 2nd round talent. I went heavy on D because imo thats where I think we need the most help and tried to fill needs. Let me know what you think.

I probably wouldn't go 2safeties personally I like Bush he is a playmaker I'm good with the first 2 picks but would try to get a pass rusher in there Matakevich is good but i say lets try to roll with a combo of Orr/Brown and figure out if Brown is a guy we need to keep for next year overall I'm good with this

I actually really like this too. However I just see no possible way we get through the draft without an edge rusher. It's just mandatory. And if we don't I think Steve will literally pimp slap ozzie. Baby powder and all.

Also would obviously be nice if San Fran takes the bait and we can slide back one spot and still grab alexander.

I like this one a lot, I have Alexander neck-and-neck with Hargreaves, and I love Tyler Boyd, mostly because he's a play-maker.

Yeah, that's def. a weakness to his game. I cannot stand missed tackles honestly, I hate it.

i agree. And some of those were really bad. He didnt rap up the guy and whiffed with his head down. Then he tries to rip the ball out rather then just bring him down.

Hargreaves doesn't tackle and thats a no no in Ravens schemes. The division is too physical for that. Harbaugh would have a heart condition watching missed tackles. We already have that problem with Webb. Trying to strip the ball like Tyrann can't be your biggest asset. I watched a defender push VH down and out of his way. The wr's on the NFL stage will exploit his weaknesses weekly. I don't see the physicality that ™ showed coming out. I think a play for Sean Smith should happen. I'd invest in him in a New York minute.

I don't like taking two safeties when Hill, Brooks, Elam, and Webb are going to be back there. That's a fairly deep group to try to crack. If you don't like Yannick in the second, this is where I'd be looking at him instead of Joseph

Hargreaves can tackle well enough for a 5'10 CB, far more physical than Alexander. He's also the most technically sound and he's a ball hawk. Edited by Cillmatic

Then I stand corrected. i just see more value with Alex. But like always say I could be wrong. I'm really pulling for a trade back. There is so much talent to be had it isn't funny.  Positions of need and bpa. I'm actually excited about the prospects.I'm not taking a narrowed approach in this draft.

No way we completely pass on edge rushers. Biscotti would be livid.

No bully.

At this point, Alexander is pushing him for best cover corner and he's the most fluid athlete. I'd take him over any corner

Absolutely. We need a McPhee replacement badly honestly. That gap that was left by him has killed us this year.

If want the best coverage guy who would also be the best fit for our system I'd stick with VH3.

I'm for moving back and grabbing Cravens because he offers versatility and is always around the ball. He picks the ball off and tackles well, has speed to blitz/cover from the linebacker position. He can play safety in a pinch or period. I think there are other candidates in the draft that may not be a VH3 but will offer that shutdown capability or I'd offer Sean Smith (Chiefs) a contract. I truly want us to move back and grab and extra 2 and 3rd. Picking a Doctson/Boyd/Shepard in the second would address the much needed playmaking receiver. Boyd and Shepard are already creeping up the the mock drafts on numerous databases and it's prior to the combine and pro days. I really don't see why teams would wait knowing that a run on the top talent happens yearly and those with highlight film get plucked first. The influx of teams needing wr's is only going to heighten come this off season because a lot of free agents will move from existing teams forcing teams to address there needs as opposed to BPA which we use. Not all teams draft according to that strategy and we often wind up with scraps at that position. I like Hargreaves but he's boom or bust candidate in my eyes. I will say he looks the part in the college ranks. I don't know that he translates well in the NFL. I see Sean Smith as that cornerback that has all the qualities we are in need. Yeah it may cost a pretty penny but at least we'd know the clamps would be in full effect. Thats thee ideal scenario for me.

I'd still take Alexander in a heartbeat.

I believe you. He is trending there from what I've seen.

Absolutely love this mock draft. Playmakers and solid stat players for the Ravens. Karl Joseph is a perfect fit for the Ravens and Alexander is going to make sure no one catches the ball. Along with will hill and Jimmy, it will be a dominant secondary. Deon Bush is going to make plays on special teams with how much power he's got. Been saying Bush and Joseph are my favorite value picks in the draft. Great job.
