[News] Sophomore Slump? C.J. Mosley Responds

35 posts in this topic

He'll be better next year. Many Hall of Famers and amazing players today have had rough seasons. CJ will be one of the best next season.

Mosley is an attacking, run stuffing, physical ILB. He is a sure tackler around the line of scrimmage, but he does not do well when asked to tackle or cover in space. Ozzie an Co spoke about the lack of a pass rush exposing our linebackers in coverage this year and I agree that the lack of rush has something to do with it, but he should't be asked to cover TE's and RB's as often as he was in 2015. His lanky build limits his lateral quickness and shifty guys tend to win the battle against him in coverage. I think he is a gifted pass rusher on the inside and should be used more as a blitzer or in stunts as a play-wrecker the way Bart Scott was when was in Baltimore. That is how he earned the nickname "Mad Backer". And we could address Daryl Smith's long term replacement through the draft with a guy that has more speed, range, and the hips to be more effective in coverage.

Idk what people are talking about but his stats looks solid to me. The only difference is 10 tackles and 2 INT. He's top 15 in the league. His stats are better than Bobby Wagner but I bet you he's in the Pro Bowl and saying he had another stellar year. SMH

CJ is one of the major pillars in the new era of organized chaos that will sure be coming back soon! Get a couple edge rushers and give the QB less time to throw so that our linebackers aren't trying to cover for so long. I second the idea of CJ becoming a Bart Scott like linebacker with more blitzes

CJ just needs to work on his pass coverage.  Any OC paying attention could tell he was a liability in pass coverage and would easily take advantage of that.

Last off-season he wasn't able to train due to the arm injury and was only 16 tackles and 2 INTs off from last season? Yeah, there's nothing to see here. With a full off-season to train and condition, the sky is the limit for CJ in 2016.

Mosley is fine. Its not weight issue or any other thing... he slumped because like Ray Lewis a Generation Before... "When you put to much responsibility on your ILBr he can not be fully successful" Ray started his career with Sam and Goose protecting him, then what?? He slumped and told the Ravens protect me or else. They then drafted Haloti Ngata to protect Ray.

Mosley is no different, only reason Keuchly and Tommy Davis of Carolina got all pros this year, is because they have Kawann Short, Star Lutuleili protecting them on dline so they can run free.

Mosley needs protection...with 21 players on IR he didnt get protection this year(Sizzle,Canty, etc)

Wasn't a bad year for him (that's a ton of snaps he played)

train hard and study, study, study. It's what made the greats great (Ed & Ray)

he should reach out to lewis and see if they could get together a few times to teach him how to study film and give him advice. same for guys like will hill, webb, elam. they reach out to reed for advice if they have yet to do so.

I think subconsciously people were expecting Mosley to get close to Ray Lewis status. Obviously that's unrealistic but I think we're all just accustomed to greatness at the LB position. The next Ray Lewis simply isn't ever going to walk out of that tunnel. Just like we've heard for years, "the Next Michael Jordan.." It hasn't happened, nor will it.

Funny people forget about D.Smith when talking about C.J. ( 2015 stats according to NFL Tackles - 121, Sacks - 3, Forced Fumble - 0, Interceptions - 1). Mosley is playing better than his stats as he says. The biggest question for all the defense going into next season including Pees is how to increase the turnovers category across the board without giving up big plays. Even 1 turnover margin per/game over the year this year and the Ravens win another 3-4 games, IMHO.

Numbers are not that different and I do wonder how much Suggs presence (or lack of) impacted Mosley overall???? Plus as much of a stud as BWilliams was... we did lose Ngata in front of CJ... and that adds a little to the learning curve. As Timmy and CDavis continue to get better (and CJ) the sky is the limit!

I blame the change in hairstyle...

do I really have to put "- /s" for some of you people to take a simple joke? I don't honestly blame his change in hairstyle

Mosley will be the foundation that this defense will be built around in the next few seasons. I hope Brown shows why the Ravens were so high on him in the draft a dew years ago. If that were to happen they could be set at linebacker for a few years.

that was not a slump for mosley, the problem was the lack of a pass rush exposed the rest of the def, which caused the line backers to play out of position.
