[News] Steve Bisciotti Shares Perspective On Why NFL Teams Relocate

20 posts in this topic

I still find it sad that teams can leave and the City that the team belongs to, even loses the name. Why is Indy the Colts, they should be Hoosiers or why is AZ the Cardinals and why were the Rams in St. Louis? The BALTIMORE COLTS and the LA Rams were huge rivals, but why care about St. Louis Rams? Now some fans of the St. Louis Rams are buying ticket stubs on EBAY because they won't ever be the St. Louis Rams again. I hope they get another team in Stl and I feel for non-LA football fans as LA is top 2 TV market and in 2016, that is the only team loyalty that matters anymore!

Yeah, I get why a team would relocate: It's a buisness. But it also bothers me, when the team leaves with all of it's old records and history. Names and records should be tied to the place they come from. LA LAKERS, that's just stupid.

Well if any team moves back to LA, maybe it is best it is the Rams, since they are getting their old team and name back. Maybe the Cardinals will move back to St. Louis one day.

Raiders, Chargers, and Rams were all from L.A. at one point.

My only problem with all of this is that the 32 owners are millionaires or billionaires. Why do

the taxpayers need to fork out their dollars to build a stadium when the owners and the NFL can afford to do it themselves. Also, the real reason is not just stadiums. The real reason is lack of

support from the fans. Bob Irsay took 4 to 5 years to tear down the Colts and then moved. The LA

owner did the same think and then moved to ST. Louis.

So, Baltimore please do whatever is necessary to keep the Ravens in town! Keep upgrading to keep it as one of the best stadiums in the NFL.

LA fans are already getting screwed and they haven't started to play there yet. They will only have

seven home games next year. Welcome to Goodell's MFL.

In a nut shell its called copyright and Trade marks. The owner of the team owns the rights to the brand and if they move it its up to them to decide if they want to leave it for free to the city which financially makes no sense you're talking millions in merchandise, branding etc lost ... Then you're talking about a complete rebrand in the new location, completely new merchandise, advertising, approvals, its just too much. Its not as simple as it is in Madden to just switch names.

The other option which I'm not even sure is possible is for the city to buy the rights to the name which would not be approved because that would be using millions of tax payer money to sit on a name hoping another team would move into the city years later.

So yeah money talks.

Umm...7 home games (originally 8...so missing 1) this upcoming season when you had NONE for the past few years...I'll take that any day.  You're nitpicking over nothing bro. lol.

Yes, it's possible. The Indy Colts offered the name back to Art Modell when he brought the team from Cleveland for a substantial fee (I think it was millions of $$). Cleveland set the precedent, filing lawsuits to keep the name & team. The NFL brokered an agreement where Modell would pay the remaining leases and leave the team colors behind if the lawsuits were dismissed.

But in this case, being that the Rams were in LA first, St. Louis probably doesn't have much to stand on. (Funny note - the Original LA Rams were actually a team moved from Cleveland - the Cleveland Rams)

The Rams started out as the Cleveland Rams, then moved to LA, then to Anaheim, I think back to LA, then to St. Louis, now back to LA.

hopefully this is the last chance l.a. gets to have a franchise. they failed twice before so hopefully when it fails again they will give other cities that have been wanting teams for decades a chance.

i do not see a scenario where baltimore loses its football team again. need to find future owners that are from maryland and loyal to maryland. hopefully bisciotti never dies

Let's not give Mr. Bisciotti any reason to leave. One of those is enough in my lifetime.

I can not even imagine going though that twice in a lifetime!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

To the person who said LA lost two NFL teams, so did Baltimore. The AAFC Green and Silver Colts folded a year or so after they came in the NFL along with the Browns and 49ers. As well as the Irsay move in 1984, which was partially egged on by the lawmakers in Annapolis slapping an "Eminent Domain" clause on the Colts, which made him move in the middle of the night.
