[News] Eisenberg: Ravens Could Use 90 Percent Version Of Vontaze Burfict

45 posts in this topic

Also - repeat offenders should be receiving fines a percentage of their yearly salary...increasing by 10% for every offense. 25K to a guy who made $3M last year (and stands to make another $8M over the next 2 years) is equivalent to the average joe taking his family out to dinner... Make it mean something, and he might just clean it up....

Totally agree with ya there, after all the fines listed in the article over his short career. Is this the first suspension he received? At least the missed games will add up to a little chunk of cash.

I'll call it now... I bet either the Ravens or Steelers play the Bengals on week 4

I agree. In addition, it might be time to start taking a serious look at ejecting players from games (way more often). I know the league doesn't want to do that, as it could remove game-deciding players from games and fans want to see the stars playing. Plus, it leaves a lot of judgement up to game officials when to actually eject someone. For now, all that ever happens is suspensions/fines. Something else needs to be done, as some fans feel the zebras let games get out of hand w/the fights, etc. I have a feeling it will be a topic of discussion at the Owners Meeting.

I also think ejections should happen more. If the head coach can't or won't control their players the refs should step in (at least when we're talking about the safety of players)

I gathered from the premise of Eisenburg's article that the Ravens probably could benefit from a little more "defensive swagger" as it relates to attitude but not at the cost of being reckless when looking toward future acquisitions for the team.

It is difficult to walk that tightrope between ability, attitude and a propensity for ill-advised foolhardiness. Hopefully the Ravens can find the right balance in the right player.  Burfict was not it, and it was good decision making on the part of the Ravens to see that.  I for one am thankful that they passed him by.  Burfict = body by Fisher, brains by Mattel.

+35

That made me lol

What Burfict needs is a veteran corps that can stabilize him, especially in emotional moments. I'm not sure that is us any longer, but I'd take him in a New York minute.

Taking a hard hitting penalty every now and then is good for a defense, both psychologically and physically due to the impact physical play causes. The Raven coaching staff has receded from that understanding.

This game is not all about ballet and aerobatics. It is still about imposing defensive presence upon an offense and the turnovers that produces.

They'd be crazy to let Burfict go and we'd be crazier to not jump on him.

Tempers got way out of hand and BOTH teams were wrong and out of line but burfict did go overboard and deserves every consequence he gets but he doesn't deserve to be banned nor is he a "thug" come where I'm at ova west baltimore or go ova east and I show you thugs so people need to calm down. The refs and coaches need to learn how to control the players and players need to stop letting there emotions get the best of them when your a grown man.

Want nothing to do with him and really think he deserves a lifetime ban from the NFL. He is out of control, has Never displayed Any degree of Self control, and doesn't learn that his low-life actions will do nothing but earn fines and suspensions. Just how many times and how much of these attempts on his part to purposely injure people does it take for the league to do the right thing? The NFL has the perfect and warranted opportunity to send a Huge message to All the players that this kind of repeated behavior is not desired and will not be tolerated. Everybody knows, however, that the league will, once again, Not do the right thing.

I would love to have his passion but not his head case brain- we need more passionate players on this team. We haven't been the same without Ray/ Ed Reed- our defense, while decent, doesn't impose the same fear we had several years ago. We also can't run anymore- it's not the same Ravens team that we're used to knowing, if you know what I mean.

Burfict was undrafted for a reason. I don;t think the Ravens need any part of him. That 90% in uncoachable. Ferocity and what Burfict does are different things. We need more of what Mosely brings.

Agreed. I also believe they should be ejecting coaches for sideline and on field issues. Take away the ability to communicate with the team during the remainder of the game. I.E. Porter would ejected and Tomlin for latest incident. Tomlin for not controlling his sideline, Porter for the infraction of the rulebook. The only personnel allowed onto the field should be medical personnel and trainers. Period.  Any and all infraction should be ejections period. IF there is a major injury there's nothing a coach can do anyway. I understand concern but often the coach henders the treatment of the player by standing in the way and asking questions that have nothing to do with adding in the players actual treatment. It's like allowing bystanders around a citizen on the street. Not helpful unless there's a need for a policeman or no medical staff present/can't find the patient scenario's. The NFL/Officiating need to enforce the rulebook and send a strong message. Tapp a toe across the inner line draws a penalty flag and ejection. Coaches and players alike.

I can definitely see a emphasis placed towards keeping coaches/side-line players off the field but I think a 15 yard penalty  would happen before ejections or perhaps fines that increase

Your probably right. But I don't think they value their money as much as people think. Repeat offenders normally don't. A clear message is it won't be tolerated. Losing games brings more attention to the issue. Not being there a crucial moments in regard to possible outcomes has to be the ave. No fines even come close to the end result of a game score and playoff potential. Fines are like tip money to some of the dudes. Or taxes.

Agree with the fine comment (always thought a 20-50k fine for someone making millions per year didn't stop the issue)
