[News] Late For Work 1/11: John Urschel Says Vontaze Burfict's Hit Against Ravens Is Worse

88 posts in this topic

And that ladies and gentlemen is why the Baltimore Ravens did not select vontaz burfict! "The BURFICT ending"! The Ravens exposed the squeelers so called high power offense rushing four no more than five and Marvin was doing it but he didn't have a QB to finish them off!

Be Fair on that Maxx Williams Hit of course I don't like it on our players But we rejoiced when Double J delivered the same Hit on Hines Ward. Tight Ends have to keep thier head on the swivel when running a short Drag. Maxx has to pancake him next season to even teh score.. This is Football

Not the same thing at all.

first off: JJ didnt go for Ward's head.

second: Ward was actually the intended receiver. It was a screen pass. JJ's hit served a purpose.

Maxx wasn't even in that play. Burfict's hit was gratuitous.

If he was still here, he would play along with Suggs, Dumervil and Brandon Williams... That's not bad a trio either.

Ravens definitely could have used him this year that's for sure, but he was never a high upside prospect. I think he has probably hit his ceiling already.

My question is why did Porter and Munchak not get more than a fine for their action???....Rules clearly state coaches are not a loud on the field, especially in the faces of the opposing team, unless they are checking on a injured player, and Muchak pulling a players hair?? Seriously???? Now as far as the Bengals, you would think Lewis would have more control of the two players on his team with bad reputations....Harbs will bench you if you fumble, imagine what he would do if a Raven behaved like they do in a playoff game...Marvin take control of the team or they will continue to disrespect the game, and the team....

Harbs wouldn't even have the guy on the team in the first place and if he did get on the team he wouldn't last long.

Burfict has demonstrated to us why Ozzie passed on him despite so many opportunities. It's been disappointing to see Burfict show so much fire and talent, but Saturday was the proof needed to show that the Ravens front office made the right call. The NFL should penalize the Bengals in addition to Burfict. Taking a high risk violent player should come with more than just game time risks (such as penalties or suspensions of the individual player). If the NFL is serious about safety, they should penalize the Bengals organization with draft picks or cap crunches. As an organization, the Bengals have capitalized off of scooping talented but high risk players to avoid high-price free agents while expanding their roster. Saturday was a perfect demonstration of the risk of that strategy when the wheels fell off. However, the risk could have paid off just as easily. Currently, the risk/reward structure for violence comes through fines to the individual, while the biggest risk to teams for individual violence is cap space for roster depth (like Ray Rice). A more foreseeable result such as a loss of a draft pick for egregious repeat offenders would make teams seriously rethink putting dangerous players on the field.

Not the same hit ... not event close. JJ to Ward was shoulder to chest ... not crown of the helmet to the side of the head.

One is football ... the other is head-hunting.

Remember, even a blind mouse finds the cheese sometimes.

I don't think that "even a blind mouse finds the cheese sometimes" is anywhere near being on par w/a PFF rating. Try again.

You're talking about PFF ratings for  GAME. Then you say they are they best on the team??? Wrong. They weren't as good as the talent we have so they were cut. Did you ever even watch Jah Reid?  If you did you would not be saying that he is the best on any team. SMH

Looks like the dumbest Owners, General Managers and Head of Football Operations reside in the state of Ohio.

Bengals can't win a playoff game with a choker for a head coach.

Cleveland will that's all has to be said.

Burfick has played without suspension through 2016, clearly intending to injure opponents on a regular basis. Also this year, NFL heavily promoting concussion awareness. It's not adding up. What's the cabal really up to?

The cabal is doing what they always do. Trying to make as much money as possible. While I don't think the owner's and commissioner are heartless people the reality is that they are really just trying to cover themselves so they are not vulnerable to future lawsuits from retired players. When the lawsuits started a few years ago the "player safety" mantra came out from the NFL. So now they are trying to make the game safer while also more exciting to draw in more new fans. How do you do that? Create and change rules so the receivers and QB have an advantage and defenses get penalized for trying to stop them.

Well, Reid is the starting tackle for a team that has won eleven straight, and has a darn good chance to win it all. Only the facts.

Burfict!!!! It's not just Burfict. The "fans" set out to toss liquids and other debris on the injured Roethlisberger. They don't need a stadium. They need a pig pen to watch games in. Foul group of yokels in Cincy.

Not only that, this was just insanity at its best:  http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/eye-on-football/25444864/bengals-steelers-fan-arrests-punching-a-woman-urination-altercation

Very good analysis by Jim and Phil in the video included in the link above as well as London Fletcher's analysis too.

I can't even express my opinion about that sandlot brawl or I'd have to warn myself, lol.   But I will have to give props to Tony Lombardi for his editorial: http://russellstreetreport.com/2016/01/11/lombardis-way/lewis-fails-as-the-thug-whisperer/   for expressing what a lot of professional sports writers for the NFL refuse to acknowledge.  I agree with him on this one!

Personally, BOTH teams were equally bad as the other and if Mike Tomlin who stated in his post game presser  "...We tip our cap to those guys, and thought we both represented the AFC North and what the AFC North is about tonight..."  Really?  Imo, that is just disgusting!

Here is a good link that shows what Burfict is all about:

http://www.baltimore...ed-from-the-nfl

Burfict has no place in the NFL.  Not to mention Shazier's hit on Giovani Bernard.  If Tomlin thinks that is what the AFC North is all about, that doesn't speak too well for his character imho, but I've never been impressed with him to start with.

Well, we'll probably never know now. You might be right.

Cundiff's kick was to go to the SB. Walsh was to make it out of the divisional round. No comparison whatsoever. No way the Vikes got past Carolina or AZ. The football gods must be happy SSR is coming back for an encore. His trash talk is just as good as his game. That note about the Steelers WR's is impressive, but also a smart strategy. Speed Kills, draft WR's later in the draft who you can develop, but make sure they can fly, catch, and have great work ethic.

I saw that Burfict got fined 50k for the hit on Maxx

will be interesting to see what happens with the Brown hit

He got a 3 game suspension ... 1 game for him being a serial offender ... 1 game because he hit a high profile player ... 1 game because it was a Steeler  ;)

The post game commentary is all about the Bengals. Their transgressions rightly caused them to blow the game, no doubt. But somehow it seems to be lost that Shazier's targeting of Bernard and knocking him out of the game has become nothing more than a foot note.

I think it is worthy to note that this is what pushed this game off the cliff. When that happened .. that the Steelers were not penalized for it but were rewarded with a turnover ... the Bengals clearly said - OK then, its on.

The Steelers had a big hand in this mess of a game. That should be acknowledged.

If Vontaze Burfict was not playing in the NFL, he would be a career criminal.

Given that he has no history of law trouble and there's nothing about the NFL that prevents him from being a career criminal (see Aaron Hernandez):

that's a very asinine and prejudiced presumption.

its fallacious to frame the Bengals behavior as a mere reaction.

The talk is all about the Bengals because they (particularly Burfict) have demonstrated such behavior unprovoked before. All this stems from the game in November when (you guessed it) Burfict knocked out Bell. Steelers felt then that the Bengals were playing dirty. If anything, you'd have to call the Shazier hit a 2 month delayed response to the Bengals antics. The refs weren't policing, Marvin isnt controlling his players...everybody left it all up to the Steelers players to stand up for themselves and they did. c'est la vie.

anyway: im done defending steelers and bengals, this is nauseating lol.
