Quarterbacks, Trade Ups and the 2016 NFL Draft

I'm not going to read through all of these previous posts, but if I may jump in...

I think you also have to include Dallas and San Diego in your list. Although not a pressing need, both teams have aging QBs. They could seize a rare opportunity at the top of the draft and take a franchise QB for the future.

I get excited at the thought of a team wanting to jump the Browns for Goff or Wentz, but I'm not sure how plausible it is. On the one hand, that #1 overall pick is the only way to jump the Browns, who almost assuredly will be drafting a QB. This makes that pick very valuable if a clear-cut #1 QB emerges from the rest. It also means you could have both Goff and Wentz taken within the first two picks, which would be great. I'm not sure if a team drafting a QB #1 would hurt or help if you really want Tunsil. Tunsil would not fall past the Chargers at #3, so you would have to hope the Browns would want to trade. On the other extreme, if no one wants to trade with Tennessee for a QB, perhaps they would sell the #1 overall pick for cheaper, since they want to move down and target a blue-chip DB anyway (if rumors are true). This means a trade from 6 to 1 could be more affordable. How much would Oz give up to draft an elite LT prospect?

Working against us is simply the fact that there are no truly elite QB prospects in this class, no one worth trading up for (although it's always possible some team falls in love and overpays for their guy). Add in that teams can simply pick from any of the decent later QBs (Lynch, Cook, Cardale, Hackenberg, Hogan, Brisset) and it hurts the need for a team to reach ahead of us.

Is trading with the Rams the new trading with the 49ers from years past in mock drafts here?

It's a logical theory since the Rams just moved to LA, don't have much at QB and that position is holding them back and Jeff is likely on his last leg, have two second round picks for ammo, and know they'll likely get comp picks next year when they lose some free agents, so they may be willing to part with two first and a second to make a trade up for a QB they desperately want if that player falls.

While they do have 2 second rounders this year, they have little else. So I agree that they only way they can come up with enough draft ammo to make that big of a jump (from 15 to 6) is to give up this year's 1st and 2nd and next year's 1st. IMO, if they offer that up to us, we need to jump on it.

I know some believe that we absolutely must take the BPA at #6, because that guy will be an automatic stud, while picking #15 dramatically reduces those chances. But I believe, we can still get an impact player at #15 and can have 2 1st rounders next year. If the Rams roll with a rookie QB next year, my guess is that they will be a 4-12 team (or thereabouts) and we would be looking at a top-10, maybe top 5 pick plus where ever our own 1st lands. We could parlay that into fabulous future success and after all, the draft is all about the future.

Yeah, I'd trade back unless someone special is there. I'd run away with a 2016 1st & 2nd with a 2017 1st all day. I think LA would rather trade a future 1st than give up both second rounders, honestly. They have a fair share of draft picks, though, since they have all their original picks except their 6th and an additional 2nd. I'd expect them to take a WR with their second round pick to go with their new QB since I think Brian Quick is a free agent this year and their WR haven't done much.

STL should just troll the Skins some more and offer late round pick for RG3. Then trade him to Browns for the 1st.

That's.....so.......perfect haha. And it's totally a Cleveland move too.

Titans GM Jon Robinson has admitted he has talked to some teams about the number one pick. Depending on who that team is IF someone does trade up to number one, that might throw in a loop for us at 6 or it may help us by pushing someone to 6 that wouldn't be there without the trade.

Makes sense, considering the Browns are almost guaranteed to take a QB and it seems like Goff is still the top guy, it honestly wouldn't  surprise me to see the 9ers trade to #1 for Goff if chip doesn't think Kap is his guy, or maybe the Browns pull the same thing they did for Richardson and trade up to #1 just to make sure they get Goff.

I wouldn't honestly be okay if we traded with the Rams and it went like:

Rams get 6th overall and Ravens 3rd

Ravens get 15th, Rams 2nd and Rams 2017 1st

I just think the only thing that would be worthy of trading back to 15 or higher is a 1st round pick in next years draft.

I wouldn't be surprised if it's Dallas or SF.

I could see Dallas if there's a QB they really like. Which would also mean the Titans would likely be targeting Ramsey.

I was reading Tennessee prefers to trade down for Hargreaves or Ramsey but would take Tunsil at 1 if there was no trade they liked. Considering Ramsey is reportingly number one on the Cowboys draft board that would mean Jerry Jones trades up to number one for Ramsey to prevent Cleveland/San Diego from getting him. I also can see it being the 49ers wanting to jump Cleveland for Wentz or Goff.

That's if it's true that Dallas really has Ramsey at the top of their board, and I'm not convinced that's true. It may be, but I think QB is an underrated need for them

I am. It has been etched in the stone.

If it were any other team, i'd be somewhat skeptical.
