FWIW.

Cundiff is still kicking in the NFL.

That should tell you something about the talent pool to pick from.

And boom goes the dynamite.

Tucker can be tagged and a deal will be worked out. We went thru a little stint between Stover and Tucker and we didn't fare too well. Don't underestimate having a clutch kicker!!

KO will probally walk unless we part ways with Monroe. Just not enough money imo and I'm really starting to hate these contracts that are backloaded at the end. Draft a LT and groom him for a year behind Monroe.

Upshaw shouldn't be resigned unless its a 1 yr deal lol.

I still think people are missing out on one of the more important factors - someone has to play LT.  Of course, this is assuming the stories on Monroe are true and he's on his way out.  If he's not, it changes things, but there seemed to be a pretty strong feeling that the two would go their separate ways.  If he's gone, who do you have at LT?  You gave to pay someone to play there.  Why not KO?  You're going to have to spend a lot regardless so you might as well get a guy that you know very well.  You can't exactly wait until the draft and hope Stanley or Tunsil fall.  The only other feasible option would be to signed someone like a Donald Penn, but that's clearly only a stop gap option.  Chances are that you are going to have to pay up the money for someone.

Just give it up. I've resigned myself to the fact that I don't think any amount of evidence and facts that support the good possibility of KO returning to this team will change anyone's mind that's not already convinced KO is gone. I suppose it's a fair fear since we have a history of losing guys and people are probably making an attempt at immediate acceptance of grief rather than bargaining with a good 50/50 potential to keep a guy (KO) who may very well stay here.

Yeah it's no sure thing he's back, but by no means do I expect him to be way out of our price range.  Prior to the Monroe news, the biggest reason I had KO moving on was because of what the overall investment on the OL would be if we signed him as well, with Wagner potentially on deck for next year.  You still have Monroe's dead money but the point remains that you're going to have to pay someone well if you want at least a competent LT.

I'm definitely not ruling it out. I think there's a good chance we may cut Monroe and use that money towards KO. Lotta dead money, but that's over rated anyway.

I'd guess they're looking at it almost as dead money either way, since they can't exactly count on him to stay on the field consistently.

What helps make Monroe more palpable to cut is that we save $2.1M if we cut him. I actually always liked him so I'm not one of those guys who wants him gone and says he sucks. Unlike others, I really thought he played well when he was on the field. That last part is the real clincher, though. He just can't stay on the field lately these past two seasons. I gave him a break earlier in the year since I can't call anything a trend, but two back-to-back years starts to make a trend.

Yeah Monroe doesn't suck or anything. He's a good player and I was more than happy with him when he was on the field. None of that matters when you miss half of your games and leave early in maybe 3-4 more.

I mean... Monroe was a good pass blocker... You'll never hear me say he was a good run blocker. He straight up isn't mean enough to run block.

a lot of that was in part of Ray rice and pitta- but yeah the savings are really what they worry about more than dead money. Just the cost of doing business.

Pitta wasn't dead money but he sure could be next year. We really have the potential have a lot of dead money next year but it would really clear the books.

did he play at all this season? Then you can pretty much consider that dead money.

I see your point and it makes sense looking at it like that but Pitta had an outside chance of playing and did not so he received a pay check and the team has nothing to show for it this year with exception of rehabbing time and a possible future with playing time in it same with Perriman although Perrimans cap hit was not as much as the others  however Rice had absolutely no chance at playing for the Ravens so I guess his dead money could be considered guaranteed dead money.

I realistically see Tucker resigning.

K.O. status is 50/50 so still up in the air

and Upshaw is a replaceable player through the draft.

Tucker gets a long term deal out of the gate. If for some reason they cant get it done he'll get franchised to buy more time.

KO I think against popular opinion will be back. His versatility is coveted and I think they now view him as the future at LT and will retain him and cut Monroe NEXT offseason.

Upshaw I think tests FA and ultimately comes back to B-more on a cap friendly deal.

Just my two cents but even in a cap friendly deal I do not want Upshaw back. He isn't awful but very average. His pass rushing has never improved and he has declined as a run defender. He represents everything that is wrong with this defense, slow and no pass rush. I just don't think he's good enough.

I also don't see why you keep Monroe on the roster if you re-sign K.O. If you keep K.O, you're making the commitment that he is your LT. If he's your left tackle, then what purpose does Monroe have? Nothing, you might as well cut him and get the $2M or trade him for something. There's no need for K.O to return as an OG, we have Ryan Jensen and John Urschel on the roster as well as Zuttah who can flex to guard, where he might be more effective at. If K.O returns I expect Monroe to be released.

The same people saying pay KO at the risk of Tucker walking, will be the same people complaining when whatever kicker we sign/draft cant make the game winning field goal and win us the game, after letting our top 5 kicker who would have made it, walk. You cant have it all people.

Top 5, but regressing. I think we the best of him imo.

K.O. hits the market, no way he doesn't test what's out there and pick the best offer. And that ain't coming from us, that's guaranteed. Somebody will pay him top 5 LT money, we couldn't even pay him top guard money. Upshaw isn't worth re-signing, he'll get a decent deal elsewhere, Browns or Colts or somebody like that. Tucker will be locked up, maybe tagged first. This is just based on what we've done in the past. Would love for K.O. to retire here but I don't see it happening. I love Yanda but I would have preferred K.O. over him.

What's the backup option at tackle then? KO hasnt been the most healthy player either. And if we resign KO with the intentions of him being the starter at LT this year, then I would approach Monroe about taking a pay cut to stick around... save the $2mill you would by cutting him.

I get he's competitive and on the surface theres no incentive for him to take a pay cut and a back seat, but with his injury issues he would probably have to take much less than that on the open market. I know there's LT needy teams out there, but with his recent history I doubt too many would be willing to pony up franchise LT money to sign him if cut.

This way we have incredible depth at every position on the line and we could potentially save most of, it not all of the cap money we would by releasing Monroe straight up and having to possibly rely on Hurst to be the primary backup again.

And KO played well at LT, but I dont think its his best position. The versatility increases his value, but i dont think the league is going to view him primarily as a LT now just bc of 4 games. I still think he's a LG that can play tackle in a pinch if needed... not a LT with the versatility to slide into guard.

You're right. Alas I guess we're just a poorly managed team whose destiny is mediocrity since we have no hope at retaining KO. He's already destined to leave since he's guaranteed to get top 7 LT money and get paid upwards of $10M/year average! There's just no hope. Close the thread now--we have our answer!

Gotta love absolute statements based on hyperbole as a result of pessimism as some sort of defense mechanism to cope with possible grief as of yet undetermined.

You can call me crazy but I'd rather find a back-up plan via the draft. This is a great OT class. I'm just not high on keeping Monroe here in the event that we designate K.O as our Franchise LT. Monroe is a good player, I won't deny that but it seems he does not see eye-to-eye with the organization, so if that is the case you think he would be fine just wallowing on the bench if they asked him to? That's $7.5M you're paying a guy who is not getting with the organization money to sit on the bench. He already denied a pay-cut, he would not do it again as a back-up.

I doubt K.O will be granted the big pay day either, but if he returns then it would be at LT. I don't see why he returns at LG if you have so many options there with Zuttah, Jensen, and Urschel, who are all solid. That's why I think Monroe is gone, if we only save $2M then so be it, could have its use.

How has Tucker done from within 50 yards this year? I know he struggles from over 50 but from what I remember he has been pretty good from within that.

the backup option has to be found via the draft. No sense in paying that much money for a backup when you can draft one for next to nothing, no way both of them are on this team next year, it's one or the other ..or even possibly neither. I see no scenario where we keep both. Edited by January J

I think if you're going to ask Monroe to take a 2M pay cut, then you re-sign Osemele as a guard, start him as the LG, and also make him the backup LT.  So when if Monroe gets injured again, you plug KO in at LT and Jensen back at LG and don't miss a beat.

This way you retain KO at a cheaper rate than you would as a LT, still save the same 2M you would have by cutting Monroe, only you keep Monroe and don't have to add another salary to the cap (whoever you would get as the backup LT).  Of course this is all contingent on Monroe taking the pay cut

29-30 only 1 miss and that was the kick in San Fran where he fell in the hole and that was over 40yards and was 1 of 5 to be perfect on extra points
