With pending free agency Kelechi Osemele, #Ravens are aggressive, sources say. Offered to make him the 2nd highest offensive player behind Flacco

from Rapoport

Hmm. I never knew that was profanity. Interesting...

This is a conflicting report right here. One report says we're letting him go while another says we're throwing the farm at him, lol.

This is why its so pointless to listen to all this talk about predicting FA, its pointless....but that one stop us

If we keep KO I can't see how we can keep Monroe. There's just no way unless we want to keep him around for depth or as insurance or to somehow keep him this year & trade him next year or later on this year when there are inevitably injuries or as injury insurance for us.

Evidentally ozzie Has crunched the numbers. Or theres More going on behind the scenes we dont know about with joes contract negotiations.

Got two notifications within an hr of eachother.

1. We won't make an offer for KO because we don't think he loves football enough - according to sources.

2. We have made him an offer which would make him the second highest paid player on our offense - according to sources.

So which is real?

Its always been somewhat feasible to retain KO, if we cut Monroe and a few other players we probably were going to cut anyway. Certainly ways to structure the deal so that KO's cap hit is in the $3-5M range in year 1, and we'd get a little over $2M in savings alone from cutting Monroe.

It just makes the idea of spending in FA even less likely, which may not necessarily be a bad thing.

Could also signal that more players will be cut than we think. Certainly wouldn't be surprising, considering we are coming off a 5-11 season. Don't know a ton of 5 win teams who are actively looking to keep all of the time together.

The second one. Rapoport has reported it and Harbaugh said the team made an "agressive offer"

The first one is from Bleacher Report, I believe, so... consider the source...

You're right, he has to be. He's way too expensive to just be insurance.

So, reading the tea leaves from Ozzie/John in the last 24 hours or so, lets play this out...

1. Ozzie said Webb is a starting safety. Fine, that's been assumed. Lets presume that he's the starting FS, and Lewis is either benched or cut (likely the latter), and Webb starts next to Hill.

Draft spin: Does this take us out of the equation for Ramsey if hes available (though likely won't be)? What position would he play if we drafted him? Start as a corner, maybe switch to safety after a few years? Does it make Hargreaves or another corner as the more likely person to be drafted?

2. Aggressive offer to KO to be our future LT. Lets assume a deal gets done, and we cut Monroe.

Draft spin: Pretty much takes us out of play to draft an OT in the 1st round, unless we plan on starting them at RT long term and letting Wagner walk after this season

If 1 and 2 both happen, haven't we sort of narrowed our draft window a bit? Could still take Ramsey I guess, but probably be several years before he starts at safety, and OT is largely out of the picture. Doesn't that bring us back to three positions... pass rusher, WR, or Corner?

If this does happen I think we go pass rusher, depending on who is there(I think Bosa and Buckner will be gone so the best option is Spence at that point imo,) or cornerback which would be VH3 more than likely. No WRs worth taking at 6.

I don't think Bosa, Buckner, and Ramesy all fall before us. It's possible, but I don't see it

With us being this aggressive reportedly, then I do expect that he will play LT. I also found Ozzie's comment, "Eugene Monroe is our starting LT because K.O is a FA" very interesting. I think it's very telling that we view K.O as our guy there.

What happens if we keep K.O and cute Monroe? How much do we save by cutting him?

Something like 2 million

If Osemele takes the deal, I could see a post June 1st cut for Monroe. They'd get $6.5M in savings and that's about enough to cover your entire draft class.

Ramsey would be a corner, no way he plays safety with all the bodies we have...

Possibly, but I don't see how you squeeze KO and Tucker under the cap without that $2M from Monroe NOW plus other cuts.

Plus it depends on what happens with Pitta in the coming weeks/months, as I think he'd be more likely to get the Post- June 1 tag.

Right, but I'm saying most people don't think that's his best position.

By extending Joe Flacco, which should free up up to $9M. Harbaugh said he'd be shocked and very disappointed if a deal isn't reached with Joe.

And correct me if I'm wrong, but the Ravens could hold onto either and cut them after June 1st and it counts the same, correct?

He's probably the second best corner in the draft, best to some. I prefer Mackensie Alexander, but Ramsey is the best defensive back in the draft.
