[News] Ted Monachino Leaving To Be Colts Defensive Coordinator

38 posts in this topic

For a team that is trying to get better this is a step in the wrong direction. The team just got worse with the loss of coach Monachino.

I think you're basically wrong on some instances...

1st of all...this year we didn't have 6843 CBs going to the IR, that was LAST year's excuse for Pees...

only CB gone to the IR worth mentioning was Will Davis who was playing pretty good in a short amount of time...

other than Suggs, and until the season was basically lost, no other high profile players got out on D...

Yet we're still here defending pees? and the DB coach?

SMH

Oh, so it was only 6841? Sorry, my bad. Yes, it was a problem last year and it still was a problem this year too. Only high profile one might have been Will Davis, but there were several others, that were taken on as replacement and when you have to make contingency plans every week, instead of developing the player you just acquired in FA, it does rain on your parade. Fact is, there is no continuity in the secondary. How many players are there at CB and S that played most of this season as well as last season? How many of them were on the roster/starters the year before? Jimmy Smith, Lardarius Webb and Matt Elam are the only ones I can think of that are here that long. Elam was floated around recklessly last year and didn't play a snap this year at all. Jimmy Smith got his lisfranc in the first half of last season and was still impeded at the start of this one. Lardarius Webb had no season ending injury, but he did miss playing time last year and take almost until Dec'14 to get back on form.

However, if someone on defense is to take the blame, I'd put it more on Spagnuolo than Pees.

Why would they expect a DC to interview for another DC position?

For the same reason we talked to two previous head coaches to become our OC's!!  They obviously didn't value him as a DC.  Do you think they only look for position coaches to become new DC's or OC's, no if there was a good DC they coveted they would have asked to talk to them - and they didn't.

Talking to two previous "unemployed" HCs to become our OC is not the same as requesting to interview someone actively working in the same position you're looking to fill.

I can't EVER recall (not saying it hasn't happened) an organization requesting to interview a coach to fill the same position that he currently holds.  Have you??

When a coach/coordinator is under contract, other teams have to request permission to approach him and that is usually only granted for a promotion, not a lateral.
