Ted Monachino hired by Indy; new LB coach needed

99 posts in this topic

Ravens are hiring Joe Cullen as DL coach. Had interest from that was initially blocked by Bucs but eventually allowed to interview.

I don't know what we're doing.

Probably adding Cullen as a assistant defensive line coach since Brooks is still dealing with healthy issues.

Well, it looks like this guy might be coming in to help with dline with Clarence Brooks going through recovery right now. I wouldn't rule out Don Martindale, the ILB coach, coaching all of the LBs.

I also wouldn't rule out the possibility that this indicates a scheme change. Joe Cullen comes from a Tampa 2 system and coached under Lovie Smith. If we moved to a 4-3, we wouldn't really need two LB coaches, but a second DL coach would be helpful. Suggesting that this hire is indicative of a scheme change might be a reach but hey, never know.

It's also possible that we're still in the market for an OLB coach. This move might just be to take pressure off CB.

That is something to watch out for but he also was the defensive line coach for The Browns in 2013 when Ray Horton was the defensive coordinator where they ran a similar defensive scheme as The Ravens.  The Browns defensive line hasn't been nearly as good as it was in 2013 ever since Cullen and Horton left .

We hired Leslie Frazier as a secondary coach.

Joe Cullen will coach our DL, Clarence Brooks remains as senior defensive assistant.

Matt Weiss (former CBs coach) will coach the LBs along with Martindale.

Chris Hewitt will assist Leslie Frazier.

Leslie Frazier huh? Has he coached up Anyone of note? Are we trying to install Tampa 2 or just trying to get Pees some advisers?

Well he has had success as a defensive coordinator  and as a secondary coach. I know when he was The Colts secondary coach he help them ranked second overall in passing defense  in 2006.  It helps that he is a former cornerback but I'm not sure if The Ravens even have the right players to run some Tampa 2 and I'm sure some Ravens fans won't  like it since off man coverage is involved.

Another guy I forgot about but I'd love to see come here is Leslie Frazier. I forgot all about him.

http://www.baltimorebeatdown.com/2016/1/8/10730068/should-baltimore-ravens-head-coach-john-harbaugh-bring-his-friend

Hopefully Hue Jackson doesn't hire him first. Obviously he wouldn't be an OLB coach but maybe a defensive consultant or assistant like Spagnuolo was

Well, I gotta say this guy called it and I love the move.

(This guy as in the article I referenced, not me).

This sucks on many levels but, to be honest, I was more upset when we lost Austin, I thought he was our guy after Pees.

Come on, get rid of pees?

He could take a dump on ray lewis' statue and the same ten posters would roll up here talking about how genius it was
