[News] Maxx Williams Ends Rookie Year On A High Note

Max looks like a great possession receiving Te, but I don't think he is as elusive compared to Gilmore and Boyle.

Boyle 18 catches for 153 should be noted. What was thought as a weak spot on the team by outsiders turned into our strongest position. Just think if Pitta comes back!

Max looked like the Max that was advertised. He should have a solid year next season. How did Brandon Marshall get away from us? Ravens being cheap? Putting all their eggs in a rookies (Perriman) basket?

I loved the contributions from all of our young TE's this season.

*side note*  can you guys stop hurdling defenders before you get hurt? Please and thanks.

I think that it was a failure of the organization to best utilize Williams. His hands, along with Juszczyk's hands are phenomenal. I have never figured out why we didn't use Juice more in tight end, H-back and split formations with the hands he has. Williams and Juice proved they don't have to be open to make catches as was obvious in the last game. I am very very concerned about this organizations inability to recognize talent and use it or the inability to recognize talent and then turn around and give them extensions and they become cap destroyers. That I think is more troubling than the draft picks because who is to say that Cody, Elam and company all would have been busts had they had been better integrated into the team. That means it was a bust of the coaches not of the front office. I know the front office is getting beat up on draft picks but I'm not convinced that people who we say are failures, who are starting now on playoff teams, were actual failures.  Is that true of players who didn't get that second chance to play with another team and are drummed out of the league.  Remember when Mark Clayton was a bust then went to St Louis and led the league for almost half the year in receiving until a career ending injury put him down. Too many questions about coaching and player development for me to feel comfortable about anyone we draft.

Love his game, but i have to say the surprise for me was Boyle....Good hands, and solid blocker...

Ryan Mallett showed Joe that other Raven receivers besides Smith, Aiken, Boyle and Gilmore can catch!

3 of those guys were on IR when Mallett played. Your comment doesn't even make any sense.

Not sure Crocket is stiff the way he ran through DB's....But no doubt Maxx fits the H back role, more so than the other two, but the other two aren't to shabby....:)

I like his desirable to learn and toughness on the field. The "preseason game" where he put his body on the line to pick up a first down says volumes about his character. Plays with a chip.`

Maxx needs to be smart with his runs to last in the NFL. The way he runs sometimes he is going to get a lot of head injuries and that's not going to help the team in the long run. He needs to save that for the playoffs.

The TE position is set. The ravens probably won't have to draft another tight end for 2-3 years. Hopefully, this allows the ravens to address other positions of need (OT if kelechi leaves, WR, CB, S, OLB). Although i'm a huge crockett fan, i think maxx has more potential to be a pro bowl caliber TE. We saw what a year of NFL strength training did for crockett. I'm sure it'll do wonders for a guy like maxx, too. Can't forget about nick boyle. He's our roughrider. I like this group of TE's.

Are you saying Boyle is elusive? lol

None are very speedy but I see Maxx quickly being a go to guy from his route running and catching abilities

I was not the original poster, but if you and the others that agreed w/you bothered to read and comprehend the statement, you'd come to realize that you don't even make sense. Maybe try again.

As much as my heart is wanting Dennis Pitta back on the field again, my conscientious opinion is saying we have 3 top notch TE's that can carry on...... Every single one of us fans do not EVER want to see Pitta go down a 3rd time, and without a doubt, a definite end to his career, and possibly much worse. If he tries to go back playing next season, his possibility of going down will be on EVERYONE'S mind, why take the risk...... He will always be one of the best TE's we will ever have, and I may get negged a 100 times, but I think Dennis should retire..... :(

Agree. Don't understand why you were negged. Coach Harbaugh said it himself. He is not very athletic. He does run good routes, but can't really make tough tough catches. The positive is that he is only 21. If he has a high ceiling, then that's good because he has a lot of time in front of him. I wasn't very impressed this year. I thought Boyle was more formidable. Does Maxx have a higher ceiling? It's possible.

He is the softest of our three tight-ends, but has the best hands. I like Boyle, I like Gilmore. Williams will need to hit the weight room this off season to harden that soft body and get the most out of it!

Kudos to Trestman for recognizing that Juice can be a weapon and using him that way. He's better at catching bubble screens etc than being the 3rd-and-1 bruiser. Hope to see Williams' start ascending too. Can't really comment on much of the coaching, except the secondary this year and last year. Elam was a definite upgrade over Michael Huff in his rookie year and won the starting position by week two. Obviously, there was space for improvement, but he was not too shabby. His second year they played him all over the place, at nickel, in the box, at free safety... It's alright to move Webb around a little, he's been in the league for a while and knows what he's doing, for the most part. However, you don't do that to a player that's new. Instead of developing him on one position and deepening his understanding of his responsibilities there, getting him more comfortable to make the right calls they made him do a bit of this and a bit of that and obviously, instead of making progress, he went backwards by miles. Does anyone even wonder? As well, secondary was our weakness last year and this year also. And least durable. How can injuries affect one position so much more than any other?

lets take advantage of these te's while we have them before we lose some to free agency in a few years or maybe trade one for a draft pick after next season if all of their values have gone up
