well rice made plays but he had some fumbles as well though.

we really do need such a guy.

many dont want to acknowledged it but the guy was 1 of the elite backs  at the time though.

from 09 till 12 he was a top 10 player in yards from scrimmage.

we could use a guy like that for sure.

i was hoping gurley would fall to us lel.

yup boldin was a beast.

we had a perfect mix of guys who all excelled at certain things.

"ray rice doesnt always fumble, but when he does, its in the playoffs" That steeler game when he coughed it up, ouch.

Gurley isnt exactly a rice type runner, but he is just a beast, dude is going to be a problem for defenses for years if he stays healthy.

I also forgot how many key catches Jacoby actually made outside the obvious Miracle @ Mile High.  hey came up pretty big in the post season for us.  we really miss that as well.

Its really hard to get a road game when you are the #1 seed lol.

heck even as the #2 seed you only get 1 road game if the #1 seed makes the championship game.

sure flacco won more games but Brady has progressed further in the play offs .

Brady has more SB and championship appearances then flacco.

So talking about who has more wins is kinda skewed when 1 always has a bye and the other start in the wildcard round.

Personally im more interested in look who made its the farthest the most times.

It's skewed to see who made it the farthest the most times as well. If all Brady has to do is win one game to get the championship game vs two for Joe, who do you think will make it more frequently?

It's just a really bad argument to talk about wins and losses in the playoffs unless they're on a level playing field seeding wise.

The OLine dominated the cinci and Pittsburgh DLines at times once KO manned left tackle. Keep in mind Jensen is young and inexperienced yet dominated Atkins at times. Urschel is young and adjusting to center. He is a very hard worker and powerful and intelligent. Harbs clearly wants Urschel to get adjusted to center. Oh and cinci and Pittsburgh have elite DLines. If ravens fronted legit playmakers at receiver the offense would of put cinci away by halftime cuz the OLine was kicking their butts. Joe Cool could be a 4800 yard 40 TD QB with legit #1 receiver surrounded by legit playmakers as well. Especially with the ravens Oline that is shaping up.

Only one team. What about the rest of games? O-Line isn't consistent.

IDK I'm hoping i see improvement from the O-Line and from Mr Flacco. I wanna see Flacco start playing like Manning and Brady.

Our O-line was ranked 3rd vs. pass rush.  Not bad at all.  Room for improvement?  Sure.  I seriously don't know how Denver is where they are with their O-line....I am surprised Ostwelier and Manning are still walking at this point.  Cincinnati's O-Line is "meh" as well.  I watched  quite a few games this season and tried to focus on the OL play.  Ours rivals most, if not exceeds most.  I think consistency gels from the same 5 guys playing multiple games together and gelling as a unit.

I have high hopes for the OL going forward into next year.  I know things are unsettled due to quesitons about KO and Monroe.  We have some young talent that put together some decent games at the end of the year.  I hope that chemistry is there next season as well and starts solidly in camp.

I think KO is going to stick.  Thinking more about it, I have a feeling OZ doesn't let him walk without a hard attempt to keep him.  I think Monroe will not be here next year.  We will need an additional LT in the draft to develop and challenge our incumbent (at this point, I think KO is that guy).  Urschel will find himself battling with Jensen and Zuttah for either spot (LG or C) for the starting role.  I think the depth we have at the OL will bode well for us next season.  The guys doing the battling all have starting experience, have played well overall, and look to provide Flacco with great protection next season.  May the best man win!

The O-Line can have a lot to do with our running game. Last year Forsett ran wild. Nobody ran wild this year.

It was when KO took over at left tackle and Urschel adjusted at center. And Urschel continues to adjust at center, Jensen gets reps and Wagner recovers from his injury. He played bruised up this yr. And the OLine will continue to get better as Wagner plays without injury and Ursch and Jensen get more reps. Ursch and Jensen are young very strong, athletic and aggressive Oline players. Total steals!! Oline is a huge strength.

Good post but why did he wait until about the 10th week. One of the most notable differences was the cb's played up tighter too the receiver on 3rd downs where they actually covered the 1st down marker lol. Freakin genius. Webb playing the slot and safety was waaaay overdue. This really helped in the Steeler game. Now Idk if they actually played more zone cuz I seen Mosley in man to man waaay too often. He either needs to blitz more or play in a zone while everybody else plays man. I know we didn't do well in the Seattle game but I give credit to Pees for at least thinking a little out of the box for trying to use Brooks as a spy but since he didn't do too well he went to the famous doghouse.

The bottomline to me is is that Pees is only so-so as a DC. Last in turnovers. Pisspoor in sacks and pressure in general. The 2nd half schedule dictated we should do better on D and the great defensive showing against the Steelers well if you think about it this is probally about the 10th time he's faced Haley's offensive scheme.

Well, you have to consider that during the season, you're practices are designed to be walkthroughs for the upcoming game. Can you actually make a wholesale defensive change in four days (they usually have off Mondays after a game and practice up until Friday)? Probably not. Would it actually be feasible for Webb to become a safety and have plays drawn up involving him as a safety in four days? I would highly doubt it.

The changes we saw came after the bye because Pees actually had a week to evaluate what was going wrong and make the changes without having to plan for a game. I'd imagine these changes would be made after the bye no matter when the bye came during the season. It's just the best time to actually make a change.

As far as the corners actually playing up, Jimmy finally got healthy (and graded out as PFF's sixth best cover corner from the bye week on), Wright proved to be a very competent boundary receiver, and as you pointed out, Webb played the slot. It just fit so much better in the secondary to where the players could be more aggressive and play more to how they wanted.

With it looking like man when it's zone, it's purely based on the route the receiver runs. For example, let's say a team is playing cover three. If the outside receivers run a vertical, the outside corners will "carry" their man up the sideline, making the coverage look like man coverage on the outside. However, if that route breaks off to the middle or as a curl, the linebackers that drop into the hook zone will cover that zone as the outside corner drops into his deep third. Kinda confusing to tell the differences between, but it's gonna be mostly based on alignments.

I think the poor sack numbers go back to losing Suggs during the first game of the season. The Ravens had the second most sacks a year ago with Suggs, Doom, and McPhee. What changed? No Suggs and no McPhee. I don't think it's a coincidence that the pressure got better when Urban got healthy and when Za'Darius Smith got up to speed. Smith had 3.5 sacks over the final three weeks. I think he probably had the most underrated impact of any defender for the Ravens. He was light and day different in the second half as a pass rusher and he often looked competent in run defense. He could be another late round gem that Ozzie finds.

And as far as the second half goes, the offensive talent was probably about the same, especially in the passing game. The Jaguars, Seahawks, Bengals, Chiefs, and Steelers all had good to great passing attacks that the Ravens were able to shut down, and even then, Jarvis Landry is a really good receiver for the Dolphins (and Lamar Miller is a really good running back). They faced some really good offensive talent. I would just really credit it to Pees loosening the reigns and allowing the players to more play their way, players getting healthy, and young guys getting up to speed.

well seeding is determined by how you do in the regular season.

so if you keep earning the #1 or #2 seed you will get a bye and 1 less game to play.

you cant really hold it against brady that he manages to finish as 1 of the top seeds year in year out lol.

id trade those wildcard wins for 1st round bye everytime.

1st round bye means an extra home game as well !!!!!

AND playing the lower seeding teams, we have basically went in the opposite direction every year.  How many times have we had a first round bye? the McNair year?  I wonder in the Joe/John era if we have had a couple 1 or 2 seeds how things would have turned out

you need 12 or more wins to get a top seed.

100% sure you dont get that by just sweeping the division which i highly doubt they managed to do every season since 2008....

not to mention the dolphins and jets did make the play offs in that time span.

heck they have been fighting for play offs spots quite a few times unlike the browns....

last time we had a bye was in 2011.

we got it based on head to head record with the steelers.

actually also the only time we had a bye in the harbaugh era so far.

not bad though since the only other time we had a bye was in 2006 lol.

The Dolphins made it in 2008 (we'll use that for the sake of the argument since we're talking about Joe Flacco) when Tom Brady went down, and the Jets did in 2009 and 2010. In 2009, the Patriots played in the wild card round and lost to the Ravens, and in 2010, they played the Jets in the divisional round and lost. I'm sure it's sheer coincidence, but the Patriots haven't won when the AFC East has sent two playoff teams.

From 2011 to present, the Patriots have been the sole representative of the AFC East. In contrast, the AFC North has sent three teams to the playoffs two times and two to the playoffs every year except 2013, since 2008, when Flacco came into the league. So, it's gonna be considered a weaker division (the AFC East, that is).

Not to mention that since 2009, the Patriots have lost a grand total of 6 home games in 56 total games at home in that time span, so just even getting a home game at all (bye or not), the Patriots are almost guaranteed to win at least one game.

Still, it's incredibly unfair to compare their playoff success when Joe is often playing on the road (he's won the most road playoff games in NFL history), playing more games, and when Brady is almost always the number one seed playing at home with only one game to go to make the AFCCG. Not to mention it's a team sport.

This is just really a pointless argument to have on who's better in the playoffs.

Great post. Out of those 6 losses at home for the pats, were you counting playoffs? Edited by usmccharles

Well you should talk to the people who started this and keep saying flacco has been better.

Fair or not its a lot more impressive to earn a bye then be a wild card team.( at least to me)

And yes earning a bye has it benefits which brady has taken advantage off.

Also ive looked up if they really are weaker.

2008 till this season.

AFC North combined 266 wins 244 losses and 2 Ties

AFC East combined 272 wins and 240 losses.

For a weaker division they have more wins and less losses then our division lol

Maybe its more of a case that the pats are simply that much stronger where in our case the teams are more even out.

You cant really hold it against them that the other teams just fail to make the play offs.

Heck all the jets had to this season was win the last game and they failed lol.

Take it all for what its worth.

I hate the pats and brady but that does not mean im going to down play their accomplishments though.

Consider, as you basically said yourself earlier, that the Browns are weighing down the division. They have never finished with a winning record since 2008 and their best finish was 7-9, with every single other season being 5-11 or worse. Since 2008, their combined record is 37-91.

Under your calculated the numbers, the win percentage for the AFC North would be 52.2% with the AFC East being 53.1%, hardly a big difference. However, take out the Browns win loss and the win percentage jumps all the way up to 59.9%, which is a huge difference. Again, the AFC North has sent two teams to the playoffs in every single year since 2008 except 2013 and sent three two times. The AFC East hasn't sent two since 2010 and they've done it twice (2009, 2010).

I would definitely consider the AFC East a weaker division and I think it has to do more with the fact that the Browns are simply far worse than the worst teams in the AFC East whereas the Ravens, Bengals, and Steelers are all fairly even and the Patriots are simply better than the Jets and Dolphins.

I'm not holding it against them for winning their division, but I don't think we'd see this continuous level of success if they played in the AFC North, the NFC West currently, the AFC West recently, the NFC North recently.

I'm not downplaying their accomplishments, but what I'm saying is that it's unfair to compare the two teams because they're hardly on level playing fields. I'd easily consider both Flacco and Brady to be top three quarterbacks in the playoffs since 2008.

You are talking to the wrong person.

Im not the one who started this discussion.

You should talk to the people who keep saying flacco outplayed brady , has been better and keeps bringing up the road wins as an argument.

its quite funny that all of a sudden its unfair after i said flacco did not out play brady , he has not been better and its hard to get road wins in the play offs when you are the top seeds lol.

i already said its skewed but im wondering why its only considered unfair when the argument favors brady .....

ive seen this being brought up numerous times and in different threads as well for quite some time now.

i only decided to respond to you because well i know we  can have a normal decent discussion.

which makes it more interesting that now all of sudden others say its unfair.

Haha yea i got you.  I dont see whats unfair about it though, it is what it is.  My overall premise was that im more confident in Joe than any other qb not named Brady.

True.

im perfectly fine with flacco as well and i know come play off time he is going to turn it up.

however i do prefer we start the play offs at home after a bye rather then being on the road in a wildcard game lol

hard part is getting that bye though

Since there is often nasty weather for the playoffs, I think home games are overrated. Let someone else sit out in the rain and/or cold. Also, playing in the wildcard game gives us more football to watch. What's so bad about that?

You need to win more games to reach the SB.

You will be playing on the road which is always harder then playing at home.

Preparation and such differ a lil bit due to traveling.

You have 2 weeks till your next game which gives you more time to prepare and also a lot more time for players to rest and get healthier after a brutal 16 weeks.

Also you will be facing nasty weather anyways so why not face it at home.

Seriously why do you think teams want to get a bye and secure home field lol.

A home playoff game is like a regular season game on steroids.  No matter the weather, if you go to games anyway you have to experience at least once and preferably a win!

To me it would be more fun watching other teams slug it out for the right to play us. Lot better for the ticker.
