[News] Dennis Pitta Hopes To Be Back, But Could Be Facing The End

41 posts in this topic

He hasn't taken control from his doctors and physical therapists who are just profiting from their failed regimens. Master your own body.

This makes ZERO sense.  He's a football player not a medical expert on hip injuries.

Agreed 100%.  The same tough decision was made ironically for another tight end, Todd Heap.  As much as the city loved Heap, business wise it was time to let him go.

very true and very unfortunate

at this point, as hard as it is to say. It shouldn't be up to dennis. We have some strong options at TE, and need the cap space freed up to fix some major gaps at CB and WR.

We have made so many bad decisions with players this year that has messed up so much cap money, I can't understand if a guy can't play why sign him to a new contract, does that make any sense, moves like that make me think folks don't know what they are doing. You say this is a business but you run it with senselessness at times and nothing this year panned out the way Ozzie and Haubaugh said it would. A lot of people got fired this year for losing like we lost, will the same thing happen next year???

Purely hindsight analysis from fans though. I recall the very same fans mostly praising a lot of these so called "bad" contracts when they were signed.

The FO doesn't have the luxury of hindsight analysis risk free like fans do...

Pitta you were a true raven and SB run hero, but enjoy your family and ability to walk, we will always call you family here. Williams and Gilmore are ready to take the torch

Anyone else as confused as me about Pitta's injury?? I mean, We've seen athletes come back from torn ACLs, MCLs, ligaments, biceps, achilles, etc but a non-contact hip injury it's this serious?? What If he re-injurs it?? will that cause him to not be able to walk again?? How are athletes so fragile nowadays? I just don't get it. is it Poor training? Poor conditioning? Wrong cleats? Wrong diet? Messed up fields? Frankly, Soccer players play all year long (sometimes 2-3 games a week) and rarely suffer injuries even though each player covers 3-4 miles a game (except the goalie), but football players play for 4 months and over 1/3 of our roster goes to IR. Something is missing here.

Pitta, one of my all time favorite Ravens, should retire. His life with his family is SO much more important than football is. I really think that it's a shame that the CBA has all these rules that cripple teams, all in favor of the players. Why is it only in sports, for professional athletes, are employers forced to pay someone who can no longer do their jobs? I had an unfortunate outcome as a result of a surgery that didn't go well and was forced to retire and go on disability. The company I worked for for forty years did not have to continue paying me when I became physically unable to do my job or even work in a different capacity. And I'm sure that's the case with just about Anyone else. I just don't think it's fair that the professional athletes are treated so much differently than just about Any other employees. It really Does financially cripple teams. There should be some kind of financial settlement available between teams and players that helps the players to some degree and does Not count against the team when injuries result in situations like this. Just one fan's opinion, that's all.

I know that in Pitta's case there was no contact when his second hip fracture occurred, but you just can't compare soccer and football. Football is an extremely physical Contact sport. Soccer just isn't. Sure, sometimes soccer players occasionally run into each other, but it's Nothing like the amount of contact we see in the NFL, or even college football. You're comparing apples with oranges when you speak of soccer and football in regards to injuries.

Is it possible that the Ravens will get their cap situation in order while I am still alive. Somehow I doubt that. We must lead the league in DEAD money as well as having very little cap room every year.

I think what a lot of posters on here are not getting is that a lot of this is just simply bad luck. Nobody, Absolutely Nobody, can predict injuries. I distinctly remember that at the time that both the Pitta and Monroe signings occurred, most of our fans were happy with them. Of course, at this point, we have no dead money involved with Monroe but, perhaps, we might. We have an owner and FO that pays up to the cap in the hopes of fielding a team strong enough to compete every year for the playoffs and, ultimately, the Super Bowl. So, obviously, when these UNPREDICTABLE injuries occur, there isn't a lot of money available to "buy" our way out of the predicament. Every signing has a risk just because of the fact that Anybody can suffer an injury at any time. If we don't spend near to the cap, we will most probably look like most of the other teams that don't, and that's not very good. I think that you'll find that most of the teams that have a lot of cap money are ones that do not have a franchise QB and, in addition, are Lucky enough to have a lot of young players out-playing their rookie contracts. If everybody on here would just realize that, again, Ozzie, nor anyone else in the FO, can predict injuries, they would be a little more understanding of how the Ravens get where we are cap-wise. It's So much easier for us fans to question All the FO's moves, because We have the luxury of hind site. But, certainly everyone realizes that our FO does Not have that luxury when decisions have to be made. As far as Pitta goes, all the FO had to go on was the information they were being given by the medical staff.
