[News] Dennis Pitta Hopes To Be Back, But Could Be Facing The End

41 posts in this topic

I hate to say it but I think the Ravens may make the decision for him. From a pure business mindset it makes total sense to cut Pitta. From a pure emotional perspective it's going to be a tough call, but a call I see coming.

He is the second player Ravens lost because of their own man running into them. I'm still POed after watching Brynden Trawick run into the Ravens returner 3 times in a row in the Bengal game.

With the depth of our TE's, it makes it easier to let him go, all 3 TE's showed they can catch and block....What was good and bad was at one time or another during the season all 3 were featured due to injuries to one of them at one time or another, and they all stepped up in that role as the starting TE....JMO...

I love Pitta , BUT for the good of the team retire. Not really sure what that means with the cap ,but I do know that Pitta will be able to live some what normal life.

If we release him after June 1st we save 5 mil in dead money.  If he retires I believe we save even more.

No difference between retirement/release.

Actually, if he retires before June 1, you don't get to delay the cap hit.

And while we do save $5M this year, it would also cost us $4.4M in cap space in 2017. That's a big chunk for a guy who didn't play for us for three straight years.

This is as bad as the Brian Roberts neverending saga. It has gotten old real fast. ENOUGH! Stop this nonsense. Not only is it infuriating, it is just plain stupid. I like Pitta too, but he is done. If he doesn't retire, then the Ravens should cut him and save some cap money. I don't want to see him fall down again, and maybe this time,he won't be able to get up, or even walk again.

The last contract the Ravens signed w/Pitta will go down in Team history as the absolute worst contract they ever signed w/any player. No other signing, no matter how stupid, will even come close. Ever.

Signing Pita to a long term contract after his career threatening injury needs to be looked at in terms of the FO decision makers.

Didn't this guy stand up and proclaim in a presser that if he can't suit up this year, then he possibly never could? What changed? Why is he still holding on? Are there contract and salary ramifications he's been advised to protect? I don't get it at all. I have gone from a huge supporter to a very skeptical observer. Let's see how this ends up.

You might want to throw Monroe in there or signing Matt Elam to a contract as well..

No matter how great Pitta's desire to play, sit him. He fell down untouched. Can it happen again? You say "no" only if you're an ostrich. Pitta is past tense. It's Williams, Boyd and Gilmore next year. Why is the FO, coaches tugging on our heart strings. This is starting to read like a Tele Novela. Drop the curtain.

Like somebody just brought up, there needs to be more accountability with the Pitta situation from the powers that resigned him to a huge contract after his serious injury, especially one that doesn't have much precedent of recovering from.

I've always said it's the mark of a man to know his limits and not burden others with your shortcomings. That said, I can appreciate the psyche that keeps him hanging on. But in all honesty, Dennis, think of your family and how they worry for you if you go back on the field. That should be enough to propel you into a new career.

Pitta gave 110% of himself and sacrificed his body for our team while earning a low salary so I feel he deserves to get paid. I also feel as though his playing days are over and Ozzie will make the cut post June 1st to free up some money for summer adjustments. It will cost us for years but we are way to close to the cap to eat it all in one season.

He hasn't taken control from his doctors and physical therapists who are just profiting from their failed regimens. Master your own body.

No, savings from retirement and cut are the same

They were probably playing the odds when doctors were telling them this won't happen again. Even the doctors didn't see the second one coming.

Is it possible that the Ravens will get their cap situation in order while I am still alive. Somehow I doubt that. We must lead the league in DEAD money as well as having very little cap room

every year.

Take your money and run Dennis. You have the means to enjoy life and give back to others. If you love the game I'm sure there will be opportunities in coaching, commentating, etc.

I really miss this guy but I seriously dont want him to get hurt. I think Maxx Williams and Crockett Gilmore have been perfect replacements. Seriously though, If Pitta wants to still play, he at least needs to be 100% healthy.

I really believe we will see Pitta retire sometime in June or July, which is really disappointing. The guy had a lot of talent, and could have been one of the best receiving TEs in the league. Sometimes that is just how it goes, but he has a lot of life ahead to enjoy...he has already done enough damage to that hip.

Agreed 100%.  The same tough decision was made ironically for another tight end, Todd Heap.  As much as the city loved Heap, business wise it was time to let him go.

First let me say I like Pitta and wish his injury never happened. However, signing a guy to a long term deal after he broke his hip of all things is foolish from a GM that let other players walk for a mil here or there saying he won't be sentimental. That along with giving up picks to get Monroe and then extending his contract (while he stands on the sideline), paying Webb and Smith big CB dollars and neither are pro bowlers. These contract have not made the Ravens better and have helped put them in a bad Cap situation. The investment in CPA money has had poor returns. Add to that the players they drafted who have under achieved or are not durable. They used 3 draft picks on TE in the last couple of years. Time to let Pitta go and if he's able to play, it has to be with another team at this point. If not, you are occupying a team with 4 TE spots that have needs in other areas.
